Excellent Value

I have the R1U RIFT and it is excellent. I recently purchased the Prodigy XC on a great sale and can't wait for it to arrive.

I have done extensive research, and this company perfectly combines quality and affordability, making it an excellent value bike without being a budget bike.

Best value e-bikes by far!

After the purchase of my Cafe Cruiser XR and realizing how nice and high quality it is, I bought a 700 Series ST for my wife. She loves it! It’s smooth, comfortable, very fast, and goes 120+ miles on a charge. We like our Ride1UP machines so much, I bought a Roadster V2 and Prodigy XR. Great e-bikes!

I wanted to take the time to write a review about my Ride1up Cafe Cruiser.

I have owned this ebike now for just over a year and I absolutely love it. I have not had many issues at all with it; it has been very reliable for me. It’s beautiful, works great, and is all around a fantastic purchase. I bought this to replace my car and it has filled the shoes and then some!

Its battery life is enough to get me around my island town. It goes fast enough to get me anywhere on time. I’ve attached a basket and it carries all I need. I’ve gotten many compliments on it!

Customer service has been kind and helpful any time I reached out. I have recommended this brand to anyone I’ve come across looking for an ebike—and it’s a lot. I live in a small island town and a lot of the workforce uses e-bikes to get around because the only road we have is usually jam-packed with tourist traffic.

I would absolutely purchase from Ride1up again and I recommend you use their products. This has been a very reliable choice for a not-so-bike-savvy person to keep up with; and I look great using it!

Portola edges out the Lectric 3.0

The Portola is easily one of the best $1k e-bikes that you can find. I rank it right up there with the Lectric 3.0 and REI Co-op gen e1.1 (when it is discounted to $895). All three have their pros and cons but the Portola has the advantage due to the location of the battery. Range seems to be slightly better than the 3.0 and includes a thumb throttle (the e1.1 doesn’t have a throttle but similar range). The Portola and 3.0 are folding bikes but the e1.1 is the lightest of the three (3.0 is the heaviest). Very satisfied with all three but I have been riding the Portola much more as it seems to be the better of the three due to comfort and ease of use. Highly recommended. In fact, my two brothers each ordered one after test riding mine.

Ride1up is not honest and the bike they sold me has had two major problems already.

I received this portola bike quickly in December and it was packed well. Unfortunately I haven't really been able to ride it. I rode the bike once on an 8 mile journey and it performed well. I then tried to charge the bike and the charger was non-functioning. So I contacted ride1up and they then purchased a 3rd party charger for the bike and sent it to me. That charger worked. However, now the bike wouldn't work. Turns out the power cable installed comes undone if you fold the bike and the cable is too short to be plugged back in. So ride1up sent an extension for the cable and told me to buy zip ties to fix the problem of the power cable coming undone. This is pretty surprising that a company tells you to buy stuff to make their poorly designed product work. They seemed to have these fixes ready to be distributed so I think they know about this design problem but are still selling these bikes without correcting them. I would not buy another bike from ride1up. I wrote this review on their website but they will not post it. Seems they are pretty dishonest.

Helpful Customer Service... (even if a little DIY is helpful).

I normally do not leave reviews (except for a few here and there when I have a bad experience), however trying to change my ways I can say my experience with purchasing a Ride1UP Rift has been great so far. I think some other reviewers may have had their e-bikes damaged during the shipping progress but mine arrived just fine. I imagine the vast majority of people get their e-bike in proper working condition (like me) but then never leave a positive review. I did some research and the amount of negative reviews on other e-bike companies were much more numerous so I figure Ride1Up most be at least OK.

When the shipment arrived I saw that the packing was done well and nothing was out of alignment. No scratches on anything (the box itself has some minor damage but everything inside was good to go). That being said, I was using my new Rift for several days commuting and my right pedal came off. I guess I had not tightened it enough and the thread on the crank arm had been worn away by the pedaling action. After emailing them once (with some photos) Ride1UP is sending out a new crank arm at their expense even though it was most likely human error on my part putting the pedal on. Also I consider myself an early-adopter of e-bike technology and I have purchased 2x e-bikes from another direct-to-consumer e-bike company in the past and they had good customer service as well. They sent out a battery in one case where the other battery was faulty as well as a new hub motor and wheel rim when that motor went out before the warrant expired. Almost went with them again (given their good customer service) but they did not have all the features I found on the Rift.

Bottom line is that I'm not sure what exactly people are expecting from these direct to consumer e-bike companies... especially when they offer much more competitive pricing than other e-bike companies selling through bike shops and/or their own stores. If you want full service with bike shops/repairs etc then there are those options available. If you aren't at least a little mechanically savvy then maybe consider only looking for e-bike from a local shop. I rather learn on my own how the e-bike works and fix things myself (but that's just me). As such I'm glad I went with Ride1UP.

Faulty parts and shady warranty - Don't buy!

I am so disappointed that I purchased a bike from ride1up, don't make my mistake! I did a ton of research and bought the 700 series, there was, afterall an immense amount of positive reviews saying what a great value they are. First of all, the bike needs a ton of assembly, my mechanic boyfriend luckily helped me, but it would have cost an additional $250 to have another professional do it. After all that assembly, the bike wasn't riding well, it was super unstable and making weird noises. The customer service was responsive, but it's a lot of back and forth, sending videos and trying to assess the situation, which all takes time. What I didn't realize is I didn't have time. They won't cover any labor for fixing faulty parts on the bike after 30 days. I'm now outside of that window, my bike has wheels that are out of true, a faulty motor, and an out of whack kickstand, and while they will send a new motor, they won't take care of any of the labor costs. With the amount of time it took for me to assemble the bike and assess the problems, I would have had to made this my daily priority, but I work full time and didn't realize I was against a clock. I guess I should have read their warranty closely, but I didn't anticipate something so restricted. The bike arrived in August, and because of the problems I haven't ridden it for more than 2 hours total. It seems super shady to me that they wouldn't want to make things right when their bike arrived with several things wrong with it. Don't make my mistake, this bike is not a good value if you have to spend another who knows how much in mechanic fees plus all the time to deal with their faulty product. So bummed :-(

Bad customer service

Their customer service was not what I expected. I had a faulty part on my bike and contacted them within 20 days of receiving it and they would not honor a replacement part. They did not believe me when I let them know the part was broken. Will never buy another bike from this company. So many other companies and bikes to purchase from. Update, still have not received the storage cage that I purchased in April, we are now June. Emailed the company, since there is now a two month more wait on the product, I asked for a refund, also a concern on the problems the bike is having with chain. I got a generic response with no answer to my question or concern. Never again, I get better customer service from Chinese bike companies.

Excellent Customer service

Riding on clouds has never felt so real until I got my hands on a Ride1Up electric bike! This company truly delivers on their promise of quality and performance, but what truly sets them apart is their customer service.

When a part on my bike malfunctioned, I was expecting the usual runaround and delays, but the Ride1Up team proved me wrong. They were incredibly responsive and efficient in resolving the issue, leaving me feeling like royalty on two wheels.

And just when I thought they couldn't get any better, they made a price adjustment that was not only fair, but also transparent. They communicated the reasoning behind the adjustment and made sure that their customers were still getting the best bang for their buck.

Ride1Up has exceeded my expectations in every way and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. I highly recommend this company to anyone in the market for an electric bike. They truly deserve a five-star rating and then some!

Hid my negative review on their own site, so here goes:

Faulty.
Snapped chain twice in the first ten days on flat, non challenging terrain. First chain went after a week and thought maybe things got messed in transit, second chain went two days later after the shop fitted a new one, and I got them to double check it was fitted correctly.
Just awful - dangerous product to not get right for a bike that can get up to 30mph. Better to buy something more expensive of higher quality.

Ride1Up offers great bikes for competitive prices

Ride1Up is a great place to buy an electric bike. I visited their shop in Banker's Hill of San Diego and test rode a couple of bikes. I chose one that day and rode it home. It rode beautifully as an electric bike and equally well when I rode it without the battery. I rode it every day for 3 weeks and never had a problem. Rudy and Zach were super helpful the day I bought the bike, as well as, 3 weeks later when I came back in with a few questions. I plan to buy another one of their bikes when I return to San Diego.
