My son has always found English a huge challenge. By teaching with positivity, enthusiasm and plenty of praise, Laurence has given A a confidence he has never had with English. A has thoroughly enjoyed his lessons with Laurence over the last six months and I would highly recommend him as a tutor.

Mr Dalton has been an outstanding tutor for my son, H, who recently completed his GCSEs. H has never enjoyed English at school and we were worried he would fail his exams. Luckily, we found Laurence through a Google search and he was able to engage H in successfully learning both language and literature. Today H came home from his final GCSE English paper and reported that it ‘went pretty well, actually’. That would never have happened 4 months ago, and it is due to Mr Dalton and the work they did together.

Mr Dalton’s sessions are fast paced and involve challenging and engaging learning. He knows exactly what he’s doing and as a parent I have had to let go somewhat and ‘trust the process’. He is an experienced English teacher (so not a student or recent graduate) and it shows in the quality of his approach and how he is able to noticeably improve the quality of the student’s work in a short space of time. His feedback is meticulous and specific, and has been really helpful. The fact than my son looked forward to the lessons and was energised after them was a joy to see. H is unlikely to ever be an English teacher, a novelist, or a proofreader, but the chances now are that he can take on further and higher education with a good set of English GCSEs.

My daughter has only been tutored by Laurence for 3 months & she has gone up 4 grades in English language & 2 grades in English literature. It’s her third set of mocks & the first increase in her grades. She scored a 1 & a 2 both times previously & I was very concerned.
My only regret, not contacting Laurence sooner!
It’s worth every penny to help your child reach their full potential & increase their confidence.

An excellent English tutor! We are so pleased that we found Laurence! My son is incredibly strong at Maths and Science based subjects but found English harder. Laurence helped unlock what my son needed to do to get the higher GCSE grades and has grown his confidence hugely. In just over four months Laurence improved my son’s grades from two 5’s in his mock exams to an 8 in English Language and a 7 in English Literature in his actual GCSEs! We were all thrilled! Connor is very logically minded and strong in maths and science. He previously struggled with his English Language GCSE and got a 3 twice.
We chose Mr Dalton as an on-line tutor who, in 2 hours a week for 4 months, taught Connor how to “logically” answer the different types of questions in the exam.
Connor surpassed everyone’s expectations (including his own) and achieved a 7 this summer. Thanks very much for getting him there.

Laurence tutored my son for 3 months in both language and literature. I wish we started earlier as Laurence was brilliant. He helped my son go up 2 grades to a 7 in a short space of time.

Laurence has supported our daughter brilliantly during the past 6 months. His techniques really helped build confidence and develop strong time management skills which could be applied in the English exams, but also in other essay-based subjects. Even when she had a wobble shortly before her exams, Laurence offered a supportive and understanding voice.

We were absolutely delighted when our daughter achieved two grade 9s and received icing on the exam cake, with a letter of commendation from the exam board for scoring full marks in her literature exam! My son was predicted grade 5/6 in English language and literature. Mr. Dalton's tuitions helped my son gain confidence and self belief that he can get better grades. After the first session my son said ‘that was really helpful’ not a boy of many words but how that changed! We started the tutoring just before mock exams, and at that point my son was predicted 6’s and only just. My son went on to achieve an 8 and secure 6. The sessions were engaging and full on but just what he needed. My son said that the writing practice also helped him with his Geography exams where he also secured an 8. Thank you so much Laurence, we hope to return if needed in 3 years time for round two of GCSE’s!

We have just had my son’s GCSE results and he got an 8 in English Language and a 7 in English Literature. He only got 3’s in his November mocks so the turn around is amazing and we attribute it to a combination of his hard work, the support, coaching and confidence you gave him, and his school enabling him to use a computer rather than having to hand write his exams. He has always been very good with Maths and the Sciences but has struggled with doing well in English, despite being an avid reader. Your teaching has enabled him to take a different approach which has resulted in excellent results. Thank you so much.

Laurence is a fantastic tutor. He is patient, kind and builds confidence. My daughter excels at Sciences and Maths, but had something of a mental block with English and had got into a can’t do’ with her literature in particular with zero confidence. She had been predicted to get a 5/6 in her GCSEs.

Laurence’s techniques and approach worked extremely well for her, and we have just been very pleasantly surprised with 7’s in both language and literature. We are really grateful to Laurence and would definitely recommend him to others.

Laurence is a fantastic tutor.

His methods really suited our daughter and we noticed an improvement in confidence straight away. I think her positive mindset regarding her writing and her belief in the usefulness of practice are things that she will take with her to other subjects at A levels and beyond.

We found Laurence online only a few months before my son was due to sit his GCSE's.
The support and encouragement Laurence showed my son was tenfold compared to the inconsistentancy he has received at school.
My son had spent years 8 and 9 due to covid being taught online and also most of yr 10, these are crucial teaching years and where some children are OK with this others are not, my son being one of them, its hard to focus and concentrate looking at a screen rather than being in a classroom environment.
Laurence helped my son get back on track and give him the confidence boost he needed, resulting in him passing both English Literature and Language.

Laurence was recommended to us by a friend whose daughter had success with his tuition. My son had aspirations of becoming a History teacher but this was doubtful as his English Lang & Lit were poor. He did not pass his SATs and was in bottom set from Y7 through to Y11.

We started to use Laurence from the October through to May of Y11. What Laurence did during this time was instill confidence and structure to my sons work. We had weekly sessions online (I was apprehensive but needn’t have been) and Laurence tailored his approach to suit.

Last week 24/8/23, my son passed Lang with a 5 and Lit with a 4! We are over the moon. Not only is my son doing A levels but Eng Lang will be one of them!

I highly recommend Laurence to any parent thinking of getting an English tutor for their child. My daughter was struggling a bit with her English lessons post lockdown and as she is quite quiet and doesn’t like asking questions in class I thought a tutor would be helpful. The difference in her confidence and ability since she started working with Laurence is enormous. She has gone from a student who was achieving grade 5 at the start of year 10 and really disliking English to achieving two 8s in her GCSEs and selecting English Literature as her A-Level choice. I have no doubt this is in large part due to Laurence’s tutoring - he puts a great deal of time and effort into his planning and this is evident from the results. I’ve tried other tutors for other subjects but we have never managed to find anyone else as good. It’s definitely a worthwhile investment.

I contacted Laurence as my son was really struggling with English and was going to be doing his GCSEs soon. I was a little worried to begin with because I felt that my son would maybe need face to face tutoring but after my son and Laurence had the first session I realised that I was wrong. After a few sessions with Laurence my son felt that he had learnt more with Laurence than he had done in years at school.
My son lacked a lot of confidence before using Laurence and even his teachers at school couldn’t believe how much he had improved in such a short space of time.
My son passed his English and English literature exam and can’t thank Laurence enough. My son went into the exam feeling confident and knowing exactly what he needed to do to achieve the grades he wanted.

Laurence has worked with our son for three years leading up to GCSEs and we are very pleased with the results. Laurence ensured our son gained the confidence and skills he needed to pass his exams when we realised that English was a subject he was struggling with. Not only did this help with English as a subject but also with the other courses he had chosen at GCSE. It was a tough few years but this week he got his results and the work was well worth it!
