We are so pleased with the support Laurence gave our son during his GCSEs. English wasn’t his strongest subject and he needed some extra help to build his confidence and feel more comfortable going into the exams.

From the start, Laurence was very supportive and encouraging. He helped our son understand how to approach the exams, improve his exam technique and, most importantly, believe in his own ability. He also kept me reassured along the way that our son was making good progress, which was really important to me as a parent.

We were absolutely delighted with his GCSE results, with both English Language and English Literature results higher than the grades predicted by his school.

Laurence’s GCSE tutorials have been brilliant for my daughter. She was struggling to get constructive, actionable feedback in school and as a result was frustrated with her progress. Laurence’s approach gave her confidence and allowed her to understand where to focus particularly in English literature. He provided great support particularly as the exam dates got closer.

The regular essay practice really helped to develop her exam technique and, importantly, gave her a real boost in confidence. I am very happy to recommend Laurence as a private English tutor for students taking their English GCSEs. My daughter is a hard worker and had been predicted high GCSE grades in most of her subjects, but she was disappointed with her English predictions and, more importantly, she didn’t feel she knew how to do better. That’s when I started to look online for an English tutor. I liked Laurence because it was a direct relationship (no agency involved) and he had substantial experience not only as a teacher, but also in exam marking. My daughter started in September 2025 doing 2hrs per week, with the occasional extra lesson as exams approached. Laurence focussed on giving her the tools to create answers that could earn the top marks. He also helped to give her the confidence to be much more creative in her writing. She went on to achieve a ‘9’ in English Language and an ‘8’ in English Literature, having been predicted ‘7’s in both one year earlier. As a parent, I found Laurence to be an exceptionally dedicated tutor who also made sure that everything that could help, like past papers, were provided. If your child is bright and hardworking but feeling a bit lost with regards to how to really excel at English, I have no hesitation in recommending him.

Our son was failing both GCSE Literature and Language, consistently getting grade 3s in both in school assessments. He started lessons with Laurence in January of this year and we are delighted that he has now achieved a Grade 6 in his GCSE English Language and a Grade 5 in his GCSE English Literature. My daughter felt that she could not work out how to answer English papers to do really well. She tried different angles and methods but often ended up disappointed with her result. She worked with Laurence for only a few months as I only considered a tutor when she was already in Year 11. She received a 9 for Literature and a 7 for Language. Laurence was very organised and focused during each session with her and his admin and emails were very thorough, timely and organised. Can wholehearted recommend him for any student who wants to gain confidence with English exams.

I contacted Laurence in March 2026 to support my 15-year-old son with English Language. My son is summer-born, left-handed and has ADHD, with his strengths very much lying in STEM subjects. With these factors, alongside his difficulties with extended writing and writing stamina, Laurence already had a challenge on his hands — particularly with such a short timeframe before the GCSE exams.

Despite trying incredibly hard throughout Year 10 and revising for his mocks, my son received a Grade 2 in both English Language and Literature. This prompted me to search for additional support, and that's when I came across Laurence.

My son had 12 two-hour tutoring sessions with Laurence, focusing purely on English Language. One of the things that really worked for him was that the sessions weren't face-to-face. He didn't feel the pressure of someone physically watching him while he was trying to think, process his thoughts and work out his answers.

The difference was clear: my son went on to achieve a Grade 4 in English Language!

For comparison, he received a Grade 2 in English Literature, which we chose not to have tutoring for. For me, this clearly demonstrates the impact Laurence's tutoring had on his English Language. The sessions helped him understand what was required in the exam, develop his approach to answering the different types of questions and learn how to prepare effectively for the paper.

Going from a Grade 2 in his mocks to a Grade 4 in his GCSE English Language was an incredible result!

Fantastic tutor, very organised and communicates well with students and parents. Laurence previously helped my older daughter and has now helped my younger daughter who was achieving Grades 5/6 in mocks. We wanted to give her some confidence to ensure that she passed. She started with Laurence in November and has just sat her GCSE's and achieved a Grade 9 in both English Literature and English Language. My son is very strong in STEM subjects, but just could not crack English, no matter how hard he tried. He was getting 4/5 in English, 8/9 in every other subject. Then I found Laurence online. He made a tremendous difference for my son, who has just come out with a 6 in Eng Lit and a 7 in Eng Lang. We are all over the moon. Laurence made such a difference to my son's confidence. He has a way of tutoring the young people which is clear and calm and understandable to students who are more STEM orientated. My son finally understood what was required of him and just started to soar. Tutoring started in September, 2 hours a week during term time and some holidays if requested. Laurence has been an excellent tutor, helping me develop my confidence and understanding of english GCSE. As a student who has been stuck at grades 5-7 in english, he has taught me how to maximise my marks and understand what the examiners are looking for; I truely enjoyed all of the sessions and felt that Laurence’s style of teaching was very effective. I am overjoyed with my grade 9 and 8 in english language and literature: I know that this wouldn’t have been possible without Laurence!

We are incredibly grateful for Laurence’s help and support. We were introduced to Laurence by a friend in March 2024, and he helped our eldest son, Alvin, for just three months. By focusing on the specific skills he needed, Laurence helped improve Alvin’s English Language grade from Grade 3 to Grade 6, which allowed him to progress to College to study A Levels. This year, Alvin achieved his A Level results and successfully secured his firm choice to study Engineering at University(one of the Russell Group Universities).

We approached Laurence for support with our daughter’s GCSE English exam preparation. Although she excelled in science and maths, she needed additional guidance to feel confident tackling the English exams. She found Laurence’s approach extremely beneficial and ultimately achieved a significantly higher grade than her school mock exams.

English is subjective and answers involve personal interpretation. Laurence has given my daughter the practical tools to navigate this in her approach to her GCSE papers and most importantly he gave her confidence.

Laurence is a great tutor and for a few months after mocks he provided just the support my son needed in giving him that additional focus that he needed. Laurence provides very long detailed info for parents but it makesense, ensures the approach is clear (he sends voice notes giving info) so my advice makesure you read it. Hes exceptionally knowledgeable and experienced. Laurence's approach changed when it got closer to the exams and this wasn't quite what my son needed at this stage so we had a chat and he was very understanding and we stopped the lessons as everyones needs are different.
