Warning to fellow landlords,
Beware of this very greedy estate agents.
I instructed them to find tenants for my property. They send you pages and pages of small print terms and conditions which you have to agree to to complete the paperwork. What you are agreeing to is that if your tenants decide to stay on, then AlexNeil will ask you for their commission for the new period otherwise they will descend on you like a ton of bricks and threaten you with legal action if you do not pay. Other decent estate agents in the area will charge you commission for tenant finding for the initial contract period and that’s it.
I would never use them again.

Sadly to say they canceled prearranged flat viewing twice. One 5 min. before the meeting. I wouldn't consider the company as a serious business partner.

I feel sad having to write this, but dealing with Alex Neil for the past couple of years has been one of the worst experiences of my life living in London. I have been genuinely afraid to write this review until we fully ended our tenancy with deposit fully returned for fear of repercussions from the company.

However, I know I’m not the only one here that has had significant problems with this company - scroll down to Caitlin’s review below, and the other reviews beneath it and you will uncover the truth.

This company is one of the most dishonest, morally bankrupt and unprofessional companies that I've ever had dealings with. From our first days as tenants, we have been treated with nothing but contempt and on occasions lied to. We have been made to feel continuously unwanted and unwelcome in our own home.

On more than one occasion, the agents entered our property without any notice, having only being aware after the fact because we found our things have been moved. They just made up whatever excuse they wanted each time. We felt so unsafe in our home, we had to get remote cameras, so we could be sure when people were in our house.

On multiple occasions, they would say one thing to us, and another to a third party. They quibbled about every little part of wear and tear in the property (in what has clearly been a well looked after home), blaming us and charging us for things that were not our fault. They were routinely unpleasant and blunt via email. As a tenant, you are constantly made to feel like an inconvenience, a hassle, and an unwanted element in the process, always at fault and always in the wrong despite acting in good faith, looking after the property and paying rent on time.

Such has been the experience that I am genuinely worried about going into more detail, for fear that more specific examples would identify who we are.

You can see that the only way Alex Neil deal with these issues is for people raising them to fully identify themselves or blame them for the poor choice of property - you can see it yourself in the reviews below.

All I can say is that as a tenant, renting through Alex Neil has been one of the worst experiences we've ever had in nearly 20 years of renting property in London, and I sincerely regret the day we rented a property through them.

We viewed few places with Alex Neil and they have been very helpful, efficient, quick to response and on top of things. During the whole process of buying the first apartment, we were very much worried and stressed but Alex Neil agents helped assisted us on every step and walked us through the entire process smoothly.

I approached Alex Neil estate agents at the beginning of the month. I had a property to rent in East London.
I must say from start too finish I was very, very pleased with the service they provided.
the valuation was smooth and on time. no agent was ever late for a viewing. I left the branch a key to my property and every time I would visit on the weekends the place was spotless, not a thing out of place.
Upon them finding me a tenant all negotiations were extremely easy.
I know have a tenant in place that was referenced vigorously, fast but accurate !

I had no issue leaving this Review as I could not be more happy with the service provided.

Sara was extremely helpful and easy to deal with. She guided each one of us through every step with precision and was more than happy to answer our questions round the clock.

Sara is a great agent.
When the transaction of buying a flat became more and more tensed for both buyer and seller, Sara still acted in a very professional way and tried very hard to listen and tried to make everyone happy.

Words cannot explain how awful they are. I rented through them and upon doing the viewing they said they would fix a mould situation that was in one room and fix some broken furniture before we moved in. This was never done and we kept asking and it took months. The process of referencing was soooooo long, longer than any I've experienced begore. It was filthy when we moved in, and they expected us to pay for cleaners when we moved out. The mould was so bad that the entire walls were crumbling, all the electrical wires were so damp that they all had to be ripped out and replaced which the landlord refused to pay for for weeks so we had no electricity for ages. I ended up paying for it myself. We got so ill constantly from the mould and their solution was to leave all the windows open at all times and the heating on at all times which was very unsafe as we were a ground floor flat and also a waste of money. When the plumbers/builders/decorators came to look at the place they were horrified and advised us to contact the council because it was structurally awful and unsafe and also the mould was so bad that all our belongings were being destroyed. The landlord refused to pay for anything to be fixed to a proper standard (just had mould wallpapered over but the walls were so mould that the wallpaper wouldn't even stick or dry to it). There was a leak under the bath which had obviously been leaking long before we moved in and someone just put a baking tray underneath it. Then that rusted and disintegrated. Alex Neil got fed up with the landlord not paying for anything so they said they no longer were going to manage the property, just the rent. Which meant the landlord who lived abroad was going to deal with all the issues we had despite not seeing the flat for years. We said we wanted out of the contract because we signed it with Alex Neil not the landlord. They told us we could leave but then changed their mind, they gave us loads of false information then took it all back. It was a nightmare. They then started doing viewings with only 20 minutes notice meaning we were at work and had no way of getting back to the flat to clean or put away our expensive items safely. They would leave lights on after viewings wasting our electricity. One time out front door broke meaning we couldn't close it and it took them days to fix it.... It was ridiculously unsafe. They would act as if they were really trying to help us when we emailed or called but really they did not care at all.

Con Artists! I would advise everyone to stay away from them in particular landlords. I decided to try them for the first time to let out a property in the canary wharf area. I was dealing with Harry Neal at the Canary Wharf area. Although I was pushed a lot into retaining them for management of the property I declined and only elected to instruct them to find me tenants. It was explicitly agreed they would only be charging me 8 % plus vat of the annual rent.

I got a very excited call that perfect Tenants who had been with Alex Neil for three years were now looking for a bigger property to move into and had loved my property after viewing it. I was informed that they they wanted to rent my property for 3 years. As I am looking to sell the property I informed them that I was looking to only rent it out for 2 years (thank God for that). I however made it clear that I will not pay the agent commission up front for 2 years and wanted to pay that monthly. Given that I wasn't agreeing to proceed otherwise I kept getting sales calls everyday with an excited tone of how they had worked out a very special deal for me. All of these special deals turned out to be ways of how they could actually charge me more by taking up more services (management services etc) from them for less.

In any event it was agreed in the end that they would deduct the first years commission from the first rent and then deduct the rent for the 2nd year at the beginning of the second year.

My tenant then proceeded to transfer both the first months rent and six weeks deposit. Without any discussion with me or the tenants, they have retained the entire amount (including the deposit!!!) and transferred only £ 92 to me. I have them emailed them with evidence that this was not what was agreed and forwarded the emails to them. No response.

This will definitely not be the end of it and although they are not formally regulated by any body, I will be making necessary complains to different bodies which may well take up interest in this matter.

Retaining the deposit is unlawful on their end and I have also informed the tenants of this.

This is an extremely unprofessional firm and are literally (as the other reviews suggest) out to only con people out of their money. I strongly believe the other positive reviews on other websites is as a result of paying for them and they are not legit.

Extremely unreliable and unprofessional when obligations come onboard.
They won't comply with their share of the deal and will ignore you over the phone, email and letters for longer than is reasonable acceptable.
AVOID if you can, if you can't make sure you have everything that happens on the property documented.
They are capable of accusing you of pre-existing damage and trying to rip you off with everytype of fees.
Unreliable to carry on with property maintenance and mandatory gas and electrical reviews.
