*** AMENDED - I was asked to provide this review BEFORE progressing with the order to qualify for a discount - here's what happened afterwards:
I'd previously bought flooring from Wood and Beyond and needed more to extend it into another room. As my original flooring had been discontinued, I contacted them for advice and specifically asked them to recommend the closest replacement.
Unfortunately, the product they recommended turned out to be very different from what I already had. Although the sample looked like a reasonable match, once installation started we discovered:
The board lengths were much shorter, creating a noticeably different pattern.
The flooring used a different tongue-and-groove system instead of click-fit, meaning every board had to be glued together.
We had to purchase additional accessories that weren't made clear upfront.
The installation took an extra day, costing me around £200 in additional labour.
The finished floor was significantly lighter than both my existing flooring and the sample I had been shown.
By the time these issues became apparent, we'd already scheduled the fitter and started laying the floor, so returning it simply wasn't a realistic option.
To be fair, customer service remained polite throughout and they did respond to my emails. However, I was disappointed that the resolution offered was simply to return any unopened boxes, which wasn't practical once the installation was underway.
My biggest frustration isn't the natural variation you expect with wood flooring—it's that the key differences between the original product and the recommended replacement weren't explained before I purchased it. Had they been, I could have made an informed decision or chosen a different product.
A disappointing experience from a company I'd previously been happy to use.
