I received my order tonight, and at first I could not fathom what it possibly was. Then I looked at the label and figured it out. I was under the distinct impression that I had purchased five small bonsai trees — three little Japanese Sakura/cherry blossom trees and two wisteria. All that I received were five tiny packets of seeds. Are they serious? The photos on the website displayed actual bonsai trees in attractive pots. There were no seeds shown. The word “seed” is not even mentioned! I have neither the desire nor the gardening ability to try to grow trees from a little packet of seeds. On top of that, I certainly never, ever, EVER would have paid $59.95 for a handful of seeds! Shocked by the degree to which I felt duped and deceived, I proceeded to search for reviews of the website online. What I discovered was that countless others had reacted just as I had. They also believed that they were ordering actual bonsai trees, not just seeds. Many noted that they had made an effort to plant the seeds anyway, but had had no luck. The seeds would not actually sprout. Based on that, and the degree to which I feel taken advantage of, I do not want to waste my time. I would like to return the seeds at once for a full refund. However, countless other customers noted that they had written to the company demanding refunds and had gotten no reply, so I have little hope. That website shows actual trees, not seeds. I feel deeply disappointed and deceived. They should at least have the common decency to take this pitiful order back and return my payment.

Made a purchase from them if a few items. Some arrived separately which is ok. The seed packs, not all the seeds grew, but got some going. I also got a tanto knife and some art which I'm super happy with.

Overall good experience, but I'd be happy if 100% of the seeds grew.

0 stars. Scam. Sent late - no responses to enquiries to return product. Overpriced and very DISHONEST.

Seeds became mushy.Tried every possible way to make them grow and none worked.Seeds from china do not reccommend at all.

It’s a motherfuker scam, please block this website, they even want to take more money from my credit card, and they think the credit card company doesn’t know anything fk u !!!!!Go hell and the app, Instagram is helping this kind of fake website to earn more income when I report their website advertise, it shows they didn't block it !!

Ordered a bonsai "tree"
So i made an order waited like 2 weeks and it didnt ship, when i sent an email about the status of the order, they sent an email back that "im a potential fraud", i sent proofs that i bought with my own card and i never received the refund, sent some more emails asking for refund but never got a reply.

I don’t know what these other reviews are talking about. Everything went smoothly for me and they gave me some good advice about my trip to Kyoto.

Please check for yourself on their website. There is no transparency about their location, address, country, etc. When my item was shipped, it was from China. This is a fact so it's not defamation. When I paid for my item, I received a notification saying that my order was confirmed and shipped. I forgot that I purchased my items because it took forever to arrive. After three weeks, I suddenly remembered that my parcel never arrived so I went to track my package, that's when I noticed the parcel tracker said the shipment was cancelled! Dishonest to its core!
I got a notification from trust pilot today (26/11/2023) saying that they'll take down my review if I don't provide a reference number. I've provided a tracking number. On Facebook, they even replied to some customers saying that they have done businesses and sent to Australia successfully. If the parcel wasn't delivered due to custom issues then what they said was a lie. I'll leave it to you to decide whether you should trust this company.

After ordering Wisteria seeds we received The Spirit of Japan's easy guide to grow the Wisteria seeds to blossoming tree. We found further helpful Bonsai cultivation articles and videos on their website. They arrived in South Africa in 3 weeks. Great service! I can't wait to experience this peaceful gardening tradition.

Pros: Customer service was polite and communicative and a refund was issued.
Cons: Long delivery time and possibility to have missing items. Vendor will change stuff and make assumption for you without asking.

I purchased bonsai seeds from this company in the early spring. I was a little skeptical at first as is had bad experiences before. I followed their guide and emailed them to ask a few questions. They were extremely patient and helpful. Finally after waiting for what felt like forever, I can see all my bonsai starting to grow. Can't wait for them to get bigger and start blooming.

It is a Scam!!! I ordered 2 different bonsai seeds from the spirit of Japan in July 2021 but it's been more than a year today August 2022 still never received the item nor got my refund. I tried emailing them but never got a response. Do not waste money and do not get scammed with an attractive website full of bonsai.

spiritjapan.com lists themselves on their website proudly to be from Kyoto, Japan. I ordered Japanese sakura seeds from them from a Facebook ad. Little did I know, when I received them the country of origin was China, and it was shipped from China. It is totally false advertising and when I confronted them on Facebook - they went to delete all my comments. If that isn't guilt or censorship, I don't know what it is. Buyer Beware! Stay Away from spiritjapan.com.

Spirit of Japan has misleading sales pages stating it will sell you bonsai when in fact it will sell you seed packs. One particularly misleading item states it sells Cherry Bonsai, and they claim the phrase "grow your own" indicates it is a seed pack. They also sell 10 grams of Sakura blossoms dried as a 1 month supply.
