Free language lessons in the house will help you communicate and interact with patients more effectively to get the most out of your placement. Your clinical experience runs from Monday to Friday, leaving your evenings and weekends free for exploration and adventure. Work the World’s expert in-country teams will offer tips for sightseeing and trips that you can take whilst you’re away. You could go on safari in the Serengeti, trek to Everest Base Camp, sunbathe on tropical beaches, and explore ancient mountaintop temples.

During my 8-week internship in Vietnam, I had a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a completely different cultural and professional setting. This internship allowed me to apply my professional knowledge while also developing key skills such as adaptability and intercultural communication. Working in a new language and cultural environment was both challenging and enriching. The team in Vietnam was welcoming and supportive, which helped me feel at ease from the start.
This experience boosted my confidence and broadened my global perspective. I learned how to work flexibly and find solutions in unfamiliar situations. I look back on this internship with pride and would highly recommend an international internship in Vietnam

My nursing elective with Work The World in Tanzania was truly enlightening! From the smooth planning process to the warm welcome from the WTW team, to the hospital placements themselves everything went wonderfully.
The clinical placement at the National Hospital provided excellent hands-on learning opportunities. I rotated through several departments with significant time in paediatrics, where I witnessed children's healthcare delivery in a completely different context. The hospital staff were not just professional but genuinely friendly – always ready to explain their approaches to treating children and interested in UK paediatric practices. We had fascinating discussions about how different resources shape treatment priorities and patient care strategies for young patients.
What impressed me most was seeing how creative and resourceful the Tanzanian healthcare professionals were when managing complex paediatric cases with limited resources. I observed conditions and approaches to children's care I'd rarely encounter back home, which has broadened my clinical perspective as a student paediatric nurse.
Life at the WTW student house balanced comfort and cultural immersion perfectly. The house was clean and welcoming, with a great mix of international healthcare students to share experiences with over dinners featuring both local delicacies and familiar comfort foods. Our weekly BBQs with local dancing became something we all looked forward to – a chance to relax and enjoy after busy days in the hospital.
One of the unexpected highlights was making friends for life with fellow healthcare students from around the world. Sharing this experience created bonds that I know will last throughout our careers.
The WTW staff were more like friends than coordinators – always ready with practical help for SIM cards and banking, while sharing insider tips that helped us navigate and explore with confidence.
Village Week in Zanzibar was where clinical learning and cultural experience truly merged. Staying with a local family, biking through the village, visiting farms, and learning about fishing traditions helped me understand the social factors that influence children's health in rural communities. These connections between lifestyle, environment, and healthcare outcomes are insights I'll carry throughout my paediatric nursing career.
The organised safaris and cultural tours complemented our clinical time perfectly, giving us space to process our hospital experiences while exploring Tanzania's incredible diversity.
This combination of professional development and cultural immersion has genuinely shaped my perspective on global paediatric healthcare. For fellow healthcare students looking to grow both personally and professionally, I warmly recommend an elective placement with Work The World!

The experience we got through Work the World was second to none. I had an amazing time and thoroughly enjoyed the hospital we got to work in, not only was the hospital amazing but the people were even better, both in the hospital and at the Work the World House. The hospital staff made our time worthwhile, giving us the most experience we can and teaching us a lot that we didn’t know! Everyone in the house was so welcoming and kind to us, they made the house feel like a home and I will forever be grateful for throwing myself in the deep end and getting to experience this once in a lifetime opportunity. I will cherish the people I got to meet and the friendships that I made because it is something I never thought would have such a big effect on myself as a person. I definitely have plans on returning to Vietnam one day and meeting the wonderful and lovely workers again!

The most incredible, life-changing experience with this company on an elective placement in Sri Lanka. I was supported 110% from initial booking and consultation, to in-person support during placement professionally as well as personal support in Sri Lanka. I cannot recommend Work the World enough and thank them for the best memories I will cherish for the rest of my life. All of my expectations of the trip and the staff were met above and beyond.

For my fourth year medical elective I came to Kathmandu and was super anxious as I was travelling alone. As soon as I set foot in kathmandu airport I was greeted by a work the world employee and from there I felt looked after and part of a family. I could not recommend this company enough. All the staff are willing to help at the drop of a hat. Foods great, comfy beds, Sean knows a lot of business owners so often can help with discounted travels or recommendations. Miss Nepal so much

Fantastic - I couldn’t asked for a better company to spend my 6 week OT placement in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The staff in the house and back in the UK were amazing, there was never a silly question and staff were only ever a message or email away. The 6 weeks went so quickly and it was such an eye opening experience learning about the different OT interventions in Africa. It is an experience that I will have with me for life. Thank you Work the World, you have been amazing from start to finish!

I spent 10 weeks in Kathmandu, Nepal with work the world. The transition between signing up, travelling to Nepal and being in the hospital was seamless. I had fantastic communication throughout and felt extremely well supported. Everyone at the house provided fantastic recommendations for things to do around the city and during weekends which made the trip very exciting as well as an educational experience. I attended language lessons with work the world and felt like this made the experience within the hospital and the community so much better. I felt very safe and well supported throughout my time and felt part of the family at the house. I couldn’t reccomend work the world Nepal enough.
