Rubbish. Unhelpful with no useful advice imparted, two wasted visits. I’m sure there are empathetic vets out there, use them and not this lot. I always think there ought to be a no star option which t... Mehr ansehen

I write this with a heavy heart but…
I write this with a heavy heart but feel obligated that others should know our experience to avoid finding themselves in the same position, or for those who have been similarly affected. The below is my own opinion and experience.
We have suffered through a long process of complaining to Laura McDonald, the gateacre practices clinical director, and we have also pursued to its fullest extent the wider White Cross complaints process, having asked their head office to conduct a formal review of our complaint.
Our Siamese cat, Evie, passed away at the end of October. She spent the latter half of October being seen by several vets at White Cross Gateacre under the overall supervision of Laura McDonald. Evie arrived at the practice with blood in her mouth and nose resulting from a tooth that required extraction. In the days following the extraction, she developed difficulty breathing and symptoms of what we now know to be of cat flu, a condition she had never had before attending White Cross. Throughout her time being treated by White Cross, Evie’s condition steadily worsened, despite us bringing her back to the practice almost every day. Finally we moved her to the where she passed away there from pneumonia 36 hours later. The issues with her chest had progressed up to the point of severe widespread pneumonia under the supervision of White Cross, without in our opinion being properly investigated, diagnosed and treated. Laura told us her chest was clear on the Wednesday, by late Friday she lost her fight. Whitecross never diagnosed her, or even considered cat flu at any juncture. We asked for bloods, changing medications, different tests but we were told to continue the same treatment. We were told they did not have an ultrasound machine and they were just a first point of treatment - how can a vetinary practice not have adequate equipment to promptly diagnose? These failings lead to Evie's loss. Additionally, due to whitecross failing to diagnose (or treat) Evie, she passed her flu to our senior, vulnerable persian. He has had two bouts of it now, and will carry it all his life. His bills alone from his new vet, were £1000.
Not only did we lose the heart of our family, but we were left obligated for £5600 hospital fees, £2000 out of hours fees. All of this additional treatment would not have been needed if we had been listened too, and Evie would not have had to spend her last precious days being so stressed, taken away from her family.
It is our position that the vets within the White Cross practice did not listen to us while they were treating Evie and that they did not act quickly enough to properly treat her. It is our position that White Cross did not investigate Evie’s symptoms thoroughly enough, and failed to listen when we were telling them how sick she was at home. Moreover, they did not refer her to Northwest urgently enough or in good time; the vets told us we had to wait for their referral before we took her to a specialist hospital. We were not made aware that we could have moved her to Northwest at any point, which we certainly would have done, had we known.
White Cross have issued their final response denying any wrongdoing. In their final letter they offered us £100 off the total as a form of apology. It is our position that the practice failed their duty of care to our pet, and that their inaction led to her loss. Moreover, it is our position that White Cross owe us a substantial amount of money, rather than us owing them anything.
This matter has affected us very greatly indeed. We lost a beloved family member, and it is our position that the action - and the inaction - of White Cross has robbed us of the additional time we might have had with her. Furthermore, the financial impact of this situation remains considerable. Yet whitecross continue to pursue it, threatening debt collection.
Speaking from a personal perspective, on our last visit with Evie, I found Laura cold, blunt and borderline passive aggressive.
I hope in sharing this, someone might not go through what we did, and continue to. Your family members deserve better.
Rip-off Blood tests
Today a neighbour aged 85 was told her cat needed a repeat blood test at Weston Favell branch in Northampton. This would cost extra because it is not covered by her plan. The cost?...£90+.
I told her to ask for the original test results so that I could review them. The vets response was to say the tests were normal and no more were needed. This behaviour is despicable and an attempt to wrongfully obtain money for nothing from an elderly lady who could ill afford it. I asked the lady to request the blood results because exactly the same thing happened to me. When I saw, and researched the results, they were normal. I asked the vets to contact me about the results if they disagreed with my finding which I gave them ... they never did!!! That says it all really!!!
Weston Favell staff are amazing.
Seeing some of the bad reviews cant be for the Weston Favell branch. We took our dog there today after loosing our elder dog just before Christmas. We are not in a very good situation at the moment and they had to give us bad news but from the receptionist to the vet herself and the nurses were all amazing. the service they provided us treatment for our dog Arlo the whole team went above and beyond. I would 100% recommend these vets and even if we moved out the area we would still come back to use this vets.
£50m a year profit!!! Disgusting !!!!
Iv had to wait to calm down before I wrote this review. I took my cat weeks ago when he couldn't walk properly. They suggested x-rays £550. I paid it....they found nothing wrong. I took him again today because he still can't walk properly. They gave me some tablets for pain £40 and the consultation fee of £58 for less than a 10 minute visit. They tried pressing a MRI scan which is even more in the thousands. These people have no clue what's wrong with him or can give me any suggestions. I believed I was paying for a fully qualified vet to diagnose my pet when all I got was a shoulder shrug and expensive procedures. THESE PEOPLE WILL TAKE EVERY PENNY YOU HAVE AND GIVE YOU NOTHING IN RETURN. I have also been scammed by them years ago when my cat had a issue with his eyes. They suggested he could have feline AIDS. I paid the £150 and the test came back negative. This industry need investigating and regulating by the government. THESE VETS ARE MAKING £50M A YEAR IN PROFIT. They don't care about your pet. I feel sick to my stomach. I won't be taking my cat back to these people.
Money scam
(Wolverhampton Branch)
Over the course of months we have visited them at least 5 times for the same problem in which all they do is prescribe the same medication again and again (£50+ each time) which does not solve the problem or the root of cause. My poor kitty is clearly suffering and they do not seem to care about the wellbeing of the animals.
Gateacre
West derby, unlike gateacre who are amazing, west derby are cold and heartless, gateacre we’re absolutely wonderful you couldn’t ask for more as they have care, love and support x
All about profit, beware!
My sister has used this practice for years and spent lots of money on services for her dogs. Recently though, she paid over £205.32 for pain killer that for £16.38 for the exact same could be bought on line! She would have needed a prescription at £28 plus 2 x £16.38 giving a total further profit to this practice of £144.56!! Why on earth could they not have advised my sister of this, she has been a loyal customer to them but clearly it is one sided. We accept (just), the eye watering costs for Vers fees when looking after our pets but how can they justify further crippling us with such huge profits on items that we don’t have to get from the vet? The practice had various excuses but none of which offered a refund or a return of these unused meds. I would advise anyone considering this practice to shop around before using them.
5 star care
I am shocked at the poor reviews for White Cross Vets & wanted to add a positive one for anyone looking for a vets. We go to the branch in Hyde/Newton & although we have had a few mix ups with appointments I can’t fault them.
I have a rescue dog who had a bad experience at another vets & has been a bite risk. After 2 years of muzzled vet visits, we can now visit muzzle free thanks to Mike in particular for building his confidence & not pushing him.
He recently had an accident & had to see Charlotte rather than Mike; despite my anxieties about his operation, the care was excellent & all of my dogs and also my needs were met.
No, the Wellness Plan is not the cheapest one out there, but the care from this branch is excellent and it is worth every penny.
I wish the emergency branch was closer, but I will take that if it means I can visit White Cross & their brilliant staff.
If you are looking for a veterinary…
If you are looking for a veterinary practice that prides themselves in ripping people off, has no compassion or empathy then white cross wolstanton is the place to take your pets. 👍
Unbelievable pricing
Unbelievable pricing. July 2022 I paid them £120 for an AHC to take my dog abroad, this year they are asking for £250! There is no way I will ever pay them another penny!
Failed to treat my dog
I took my dog Nemo for an annual health check. They failed to carry out any checks as they say they can’t handle him and are frightened that he will bite them.
I offered to hold him but this was rejected.
Many times they have let me down with the same excuse. Nemo is a big dog but has never bitten anyone.
They happily take my money but don’t do anything for it. I am going to a different practice from now on.
Highly Recommended
We took our less than one year old Boston Terrier to White Cross Vets in Redcar with gastro problems. Turned out he had eaten something he shouldn't and needed emergency surgery. We've been with White Cross for a number of years and they are always caring, friendly and professional. Alex the Vet was amazing and undoubtedly saved our dog's life and we are beyond grateful. We have no hesitation in recommending White Cross as they are all great vets, nurses and support staff.
Deceitful and greedy vets!
I would never use a white cross branch again. I am part of white cross vets in Sale, Manchester. Ann Marie who is the manager has dealt with this so wrongly …. Got quoted £1000 - £1200 for an operation out puppy didn’t even need. Our puppy had a lump in her throat. White cross said she would NEED an operation it was only after speaking to my uncle who has had many dogs “try antibiotics” so I asked for a course of antibiotics … £42 the exact same course and dosage was £26 at my new vets!! Needless to say, the lump has gone with the antibiotics but white cross would have robbed me of £1000 - £1200 and put my puppy under anaesthetic unnecessarily for an operation she didn’t need. Now I wanted to move her from that vets and cancel my “wellness” plan. I was in a yearly contract and was only 7 months in but due to lack of trust and their deceitful ways I do not want to be a part of that vets anymore. They are now threatening me with debt collectors for £100. Greedy greedy horrendous company. Don’t sign your pet up.
White Cross Vets in Sale
Bethany and the team at white cross in sale have been looking after my very mischievous and accident prone but beautiful cat since I got him in January 2021 and from day one they have been amazing with Stan so caring, loving and patient with him and they are brilliant with me too they explain everything fantastically they are calm, patient, understanding reassuring and respectful they care deeply about the animals they care for and really help and reassure owners. They make my vet visits so stress free and I really trust them with my crazy daredevil and he doesn’t worry when we go there (which is a miracle for a cat, and lucky as it feels like I’m never away sometimes - Stan does like to get in to mischief) I can’t thank and recommend them enough they really are an amazing team and going to them has been the best decision ever thank you to them all especially Bethany and hopefully it’ll be longer between visits next time
Hyde - Extortionate!
£130 to euthanise a hamster!!!!
My husband took our Bernese with a hot spot and received a bill for over £200. The vet gave antibiotics without even putting her hands on him, did not shave the area and no steroid injection. When I raised this the following day I was told she was having a moment and to bring him back next week so they can sort it. Just not good enough!
Coulby Newham branch
My dog is 3 years now and since he was a puppy he's under White cross vets Coulby Newham care.
I really cannot say bad word about them. My pup back then was scared of everything and really anxious around new people and places. They really went above and beyond to make him feel comfortable - slow approach, treats. We were even invited to come over once-twice a week at the end of working day so my pup could get in and sniff around the practice when only staff was there.
That amazing service is continuing until today. Yes, I'm member of pet plan but only because I know I might need more appointments due my dog ongoing condition (allergy).
The vets are amazing, always listen to concerns and trying to support with best possible options of treatment. The nurses are really caring and always happy to support and answer questions if needed. Cannot also forget about amazing reception staff which is greeting you with smile from first step in the practice.
Absolutely amazing ! Fumito and I know he has best possible care there
95 GBP for 15 minute consultation at…
95 GBP for 15 minute consultation at Balby Doncaster..... Yes, it did include 13 GBP of steriod cream.. I wont be using them again... I would not recomend using any practice that takes such advantage of, and charges an OAP so much for so little.
Leeds Roundhay branch
I use the whitecross vets in Leeds roundhay and I cannot say enough good things to do them justice! Every vet, nurse and receptionist we have come across have been lovely, friendly and helpful. They even let us bring our rabbit in on a day they were closed for training as they knew it was something that could be serious but they could of just sent us on our way to emergency vets but they didn’t. Another day they only had one vet in and were struggling but again as it was the same potentially serious issue, they made it work to see us within the hour. They have given us refunds before the odd time things have been overpaid, always honest and get the money back to us. Our dog is very anxious at the vets and they are always brilliant with her, patient and understanding. Care has always been amazing when unfortunately I cannot say the same for our previous vets whose name I will not mention. The care plan is great value also. Highly recommend!

Whitecross vets wolstanton Newcastle…
Whitecross vets wolstanton Newcastle under Lyme.
I have been taking my dog here for over 9 years and the whole experience has gotten worse with each visit. I was quoted £600 for dental work without any indication or visit to check whether teeth needed to be extracted. On the day of the surgery I was told it would be £660. I said I was quoted £600 and they said it must have gone up since I made the appt. £60 IN A WEEK!!
After the surgery she developed a lump which they said was nothing. A week later she still had the lump which was an infection and was apparently oozing green puss. I was then charged £60 for 21 antibiotics that I could purchase for 58 pence each. They are an absolute disgrace I have never seen the same vet or nurse twice in over 9 years. They constantly try to charge for services that were paid for on a plan when she was a pup. Plus they have taken away services that were on her original plan.Hopefully she will recover from the mess she’s in and the unnecessary suffering that she’s been put through for another week because the vet happened to miss the puss oozing from her extraction site and ignored the fact that her temperature was raised.
They really have no care or consideration for the animals that they treat and I will be taking her to the vet that I use for my other animal in future
