White cross vet StHelens
White cross vet StHelens, Eccleston branch.
Few years ago our border collie Candy started involuntarily urinating so we took her into the vet they prescribed Propalin at £85 a bottle plus £14 prescription plus consultation fee £35= £134 total. Within a few weeks candy started with diarrhoea so we took her back to the vet and they did blood tests and poo sample tests at the cost of £800. In the meantime I found Propalin on line at £24 per bottle and requested a prescription only for candy and was told £28 plus consultation fee now £52= £104 little less but was surprised by the rise in cost for prescription and consultation. I spoke to the Vet about the fact that candy was a very stressy dog and bringing her in for consultations was not good for her as they had to give her meds at more cost just to examine her. They agreed to only see her every other prescription further reducing costs. I then found out when ordering candy’s Propalin that Propalin causes diarrhoea something I think the vet should have known or at least checked!
I reduced Candy’s Propalin dose from 0.6 to 0.4 and that stopped the diarrhoea but kept the urinating at bay. This month 02/25 I have rang the vet and asked for a new prescription but they now want to see her every time we renew the prescription. The vet who agreed with us has left. So disappointed with this vet practice all they seem interested in is getting as much money out of you as possible no concern for the pet or for the customer just money, money, money. We will be leaving!
Castration - Dog
Northampton Branch - Vet Rosie. Our 1 year old Shar Pei is very scared in different environments and new people. We were all anxious about today and would the vet be able to sedate him because he would be scared and possibly could become aggressive. Rosie was so patient, calm and encouraging to all of us. My daughter and I held our pet secure whilst Rosie injected him. It took 3 attempts as he kept pulling out of our hold and would scream. Every time she was calm and collected. She managed to sedate him and then allowed him sufficient time to get comfortable on a blanket (he was then sick) before she put an IV in successfully. We were blown away by her patience and care. She kept us updated with the position and we were able to pick him up several hours later. To say we are happy that this operation could take place is an understatement. Would recommend this vets and Rosie in a heartbeat. Rosie also knew how anxious we were because another dog in the litter had a reaction to the anaesthetic and was poorly so that was playing on our minds also.

My cat is no longer friendly
My cat is no longer friendly
He's petrified absolutely petrified. It's been 11 days since being at the vet and he doesn't trust me anymore.
He won't come inside even when hungry. He is thirsty but won't drink if I'm close by. He backs off when he sees me. My neighbours know how friendly he is. When I collected him he had pooed himself WHY WHY WHY. What have you done to him. I can't stop crying. He's losing weight rapidly not due to being poorly but because of the visit to the vet. He had a healthy appetite prior to this visit. I taught him not to take food from anyone else, now he won't come inside I have to take food and water outside for him. My heart aches. My cat has suffered due to their neglect and misdiagnosis time and again. I should have left the vet long ago but didn't. I'm kicking myself now. He'd not been eating well we kept taking him
Back telling them he is rubbing the side of his face and pawing it. In the end I told them to sedate him and check his teeth. He had a broken tooth & shard. They have again misdiagnosed him they were constantly saying they couldn't find anything wrong with him. A new vet mentioned he may have hyperthyroidism. I booked him in for the next available appointment. His levels are 201 very high. I cannot give him his meds due to not being able to get him inside. He's 13 years old why was he not checked for this?. The vet time and again said they couldn't find anything wrong with him
I hope the persons who have done this to be removed and never ever be allowed near any pets.
Brilliant White Cross vets (Walkden)…
I wish that I had know about White Cross vets years ago instead of my old vets.
My old vets had given up on my old dog a year ago so I looked everywhere and was lucky to find White Cross vets at Walkden.
From the first visit I was shocked how brilliant everything was, clean spacious waiting area, friendly efficient helpful staff, brilliant vets and nurses who went out of their way to help my dog and helped him walk again with arthritis injections.
I eventually I had to have him put to sleep three weeks ago with liver failure, but it couldn't of been done in a more dignified and caring way. (Still crying every day and miss him so very very much).
I love animals and that is why I would 100% recommend this fantastic vets.
Thank you again for all the help you gave my dog.
Fabulous service from the Sale branch
Fabulous service from the Sale branch, where they treated my cat. Unfortunately he had to be put to sleep, but the treatment he received was thorough and extremely compassionate. Te vet made a horrible situation much easier to cope with.
My partners dog went in for what should…
My partners dog went in for what should have been a routine procedure which turned out not to be take into account this is the 3rd xl bully that they have done now out of the same litter of puppies 2 of which have had severe complications on what should have been routine procedures one of the puppies had a spay done a few months before ours had been done an she nearly died her owner had rushed her to vets now because she was hemorrhaging alot of blood from her wound and had to under go another surgery and a blood transfusion which luckily she had just about pulled threw thanks to vets now and white cross argued with the owner and threatened them with debt collectors at there house. They must have known they had done something wrong because they ended up paying the full amount that was owed which was about 4,000 pound. And then my partner and myself had to get the mum of the two puppies spayed which again should have been a simple procedure then of course turned out not to be as she had to go to vets now because she had internal bleeding which we got told by white cross wasn't a internal bleed and was just resulidul blood left over after the spayed which couldn't have been further from the truth she had to have another 2 operations after the fact and now has got to live with a massive hernia for the rest of her life as she is to high risk for her to be operated on again but even after the fact we was liable to pay the full cost which turned out to be about 5,000 pound all in luckily my partners parents had to faulk out and pay because again put it down to the size of the dog and her bloods which all came back Normal an we had even paid for specific blood work to be done to rule out the fact it wasn't her blood that caused the bleeding.and now the second puppy had gone into white cross vets for a spayed we had gone for key hole surgery as was the safest option of the two as we had had a bad experience with the other two dogs we had had done in white cross and now again put it down to the size of the dog all because she is an xl bully and had a bleed on her right Overy what had been cauterised said the vet but was completely incoherent when we went to pick her up because she had to then go in for another surgery because her stomach was filling with blood so had to get cut open at half 5 in the afternoon baring in mind they close at 7 so she was completely comatosed by the time me and my partner and her brother went to pick her up and we told them about what had happend to the two other dogs before she went in for this procedure, and after the fact she still wasn't able to walk or even lift her head up unassisted so then we had to take her to a vets now in Whitefield Manchester which she had been in there for 3 days and had had no improvement over the 3 days that she was in there and has now had to have been put to sleep today so our family is absolutely heart broken because she is a part of our family but that's not the way they look at it all about money for white cross vets do us a favour if u value you're dog in anyway we beg you DO NOT TAKE THEM HERE as it can't just be a coinsidens that this has happen to 3 of these animals as there are other people my partner has given the puppies to and they have been spay in a different vets and have had no repercussions on them atall.
My dog got sprayed they told me they…
My friends dog got sprayed they told me they couldn’t stop the bleeding and told me to come and collect her as they don’t have a overnight stay so they sent me to another vet who they had phoned for overnight stay and my dog mite die the new vets has said and Whitecross said they are only paying vet bill up to £2000 new vets have said see needs surgery stay away as they don’t no wot there doing plus will be taking whitecross vets to small claims court VERY SAD DAY MY FRIENDS DOG HAD TO BE PUT ASLEEP TODAY white cross vets wot did use do wrong
Just greedy for a prescription writing
Have used them for years and been fine even though a bit expensive, but when I asked for a prescription writing for meds I can get half price online and was told its £28 to write a prescription?? That is disgusting so won't be using them any more,

I've been with white cross since I got my greyhound Sid in 2021/2022 and they have done nothing but look after us. My boy even loves going to the vets as the team are so warm & welcoming! When he had his dental operation they were fantastic with us and with Sid and even dealt direct with my insurance which allowed me to look after my boy. Kayleigh especially has been amazing through it all - thank you again white cross you have been amazing!

Cancelled my direct debit with them and was told that is going to cost me £70 what?? Why??
This has got to be wrong
Daylight Robbery
£52+ for a 10 minute consultation.
I required a checkup on my cats ear, no signs of anything untoward. I just noticed when petting him, he would paw at his right ear. The 2 minutes of looking at his ear was in contrast to the time allocated to restraining him because of a previous traumatic experience at this vets. I have actually told them on numerous occasions that they have 'broken' my previously mild-mannered cat.
Today I paid over £52, for 10 mins. to be told he is fine.
Drug dealers earn less, probably.
Incredibly disappointed to just be…
Incredibly disappointed to just be charged £200.78 for the medicine propolin when it’s available to buy on line for £56 plus script fee of £28.00. Really sad scenario when inflated costs are at the expense of animals.
Amazing amazing!!!
Amazing amazing!!!
Brought my xl bully in to be spayed at the sale branch, they applied for the blue cross fund for me, they have an amazing offer on at the minute £210 for spaying so I was awarded the £200 off blue cross so only cost me £10, really helped a lot. Staff where amazing throughout, cannot thank them enough, very caring and can see they’re very passionate about animals, the whole experience from enquiring to having her spayed has been so straightforward and easy, thankyou so much! Super friendly!
I concur with so many others who have…
I concur with so many others who have identified that this company will take every penny they can from you. They play upon people's emotional attachment to their pets and exploit owners. The staff on site are not responsible for this - no doubt they are also exploited on low pay. It's the multi million pound owners who set the policies I have just been ripped off being charged £115 on 28.02.2024 for a Consultation for my 14 year old dog's opaque eye condition. As the practice did not have the required equipment on site to investigate , was sent to another branch of Whitecross vets for an eye pressure test, to identify if he is suffering from Glaucoma. Attended this other branch of Whitecross vets on 29.02.2024 and was charged a further £60.I was instructed to attend original vets for the results. Did so on 05.03.2024, where a different vet that I had originally seen at the practice repeated the same examination as on my original visit (attempting to see into his eye, stethoscope to hear his heart rate). I was told that he might have an eye infection and was prescribed 8 antibiotic tablets. Was charged a further £116. When questioned how could 8 antibiotic tablets cost £14.50 each I was informed that I had also been charged for the Consultation. I suggested that this was follow up treatment from the consultation I had paid on 28.02.2024. They then informed that there is a £60 Consultation fee to be paid on each visit.
I was also informed that if the antibiotics don't work, as my dog is a very nervous animal, blood tests would be required to be taken under anaesthetic to establish if he was suffering from any underlying conditions causing his eye problem. When I asked at what charged was told it would be around £700. I informed that as I don't have insurance I wouldn't be able to afford it. Was told that I could take out a credit account in order to meet the payment. Needless to say, I wont be putting a nervous 14 year old, previously abused rescue dog through such
continual exploratory tests.
We had to visit the vets as our rescue…
We had to visit the vets as our rescue dog Rosco wasn't to good. As always the staff at White Cross Vets, Guiseley, were excellent, offering support, advice and treatment which has resolved the issue.
They really are a great team!!
I write this with a heavy heart but…
I write this with a heavy heart but feel obligated that others should know our experience to avoid finding themselves in the same position, or for those who have been similarly affected. The below is my own opinion and experience.
We have suffered through a long process of complaining to Laura McDonald, the gateacre practices clinical director, and we have also pursued to its fullest extent the wider White Cross complaints process, having asked their head office to conduct a formal review of our complaint.
Our Siamese cat, Evie, passed away at the end of October. She spent the latter half of October being seen by several vets at White Cross Gateacre under the overall supervision of Laura McDonald. Evie arrived at the practice with blood in her mouth and nose resulting from a tooth that required extraction. In the days following the extraction, she developed difficulty breathing and symptoms of what we now know to be of cat flu, a condition she had never had before attending White Cross. Throughout her time being treated by White Cross, Evie’s condition steadily worsened, despite us bringing her back to the practice almost every day. Finally we moved her to the where she passed away there from pneumonia 36 hours later. The issues with her chest had progressed up to the point of severe widespread pneumonia under the supervision of White Cross, without in our opinion being properly investigated, diagnosed and treated. Laura told us her chest was clear on the Wednesday, by late Friday she lost her fight. Whitecross never diagnosed her, or even considered cat flu at any juncture. We asked for bloods, changing medications, different tests but we were told to continue the same treatment. We were told they did not have an ultrasound machine and they were just a first point of treatment - how can a vetinary practice not have adequate equipment to promptly diagnose? These failings lead to Evie's loss. Additionally, due to whitecross failing to diagnose (or treat) Evie, she passed her flu to our senior, vulnerable persian. He has had two bouts of it now, and will carry it all his life. His bills alone from his new vet, were £1000.
Not only did we lose the heart of our family, but we were left obligated for £5600 hospital fees, £2000 out of hours fees. All of this additional treatment would not have been needed if we had been listened too, and Evie would not have had to spend her last precious days being so stressed, taken away from her family.
It is our position that the vets within the White Cross practice did not listen to us while they were treating Evie and that they did not act quickly enough to properly treat her. It is our position that White Cross did not investigate Evie’s symptoms thoroughly enough, and failed to listen when we were telling them how sick she was at home. Moreover, they did not refer her to Northwest urgently enough or in good time; the vets told us we had to wait for their referral before we took her to a specialist hospital. We were not made aware that we could have moved her to Northwest at any point, which we certainly would have done, had we known.
White Cross have issued their final response denying any wrongdoing. In their final letter they offered us £100 off the total as a form of apology. It is our position that the practice failed their duty of care to our pet, and that their inaction led to her loss. Moreover, it is our position that White Cross owe us a substantial amount of money, rather than us owing them anything.
This matter has affected us very greatly indeed. We lost a beloved family member, and it is our position that the action - and the inaction - of White Cross has robbed us of the additional time we might have had with her. Furthermore, the financial impact of this situation remains considerable. Yet whitecross continue to pursue it, threatening debt collection.
Speaking from a personal perspective, on our last visit with Evie, I found Laura cold, blunt and borderline passive aggressive.
I hope in sharing this, someone might not go through what we did, and continue to. Your family members deserve better.
