Service not guaranteed even if you pay, customer service -1 star as they try to blame you without checking the circumstances. Better not use them where possible

AVOID AT ALL COSTS, I ordered a skip online this morning to be delivered tomorrow as I have builders coming out, on the website this was not a problem, then they left it until 3pm in the afternoon to call me and say they are unable to fulfil the contract for atleast 48 hours now I am left with 2 hours left in the business day to try and get another one from another company, I asked to speak to a manager and was told there is no manager to speak to I then asked to speak to a supervisor and was told there was no supervisor either. So they have no problem taking your booking and taking your money but they cannot do as promised, now I am left completely stranded, for such a big company I have never seen anything so bad.

Do yourself a favour and order from somewhere else as this company is pathetic!

As this is a clear breach of contract I will be seeking legal advise for costs and time.

Over the years I have ordered several skips from Thorntons recycling and have had no issues.
But I ordered and paid for a skip a week ago to be delivered today, no skip arrived, phoned to enquire when the skip would be delivered, told its been delayed and they couldn't guarantee a delivery date.
Quite unacceptable to charge and take an order that they can't deliver on.

Do not book a skip with them, skip didn’t deliver on the day despite paying over 200 euro online no courtesy call or anything ! Shocking service, it was booked with city bin

If I could give zero stars I would!! There customer service definitely suits its line of business - rubbish!! Ordered a skip 2 weeks ago to be delivered & collected on the same day, 2 weeks on it’s still sitting there, I’ve rang numerous times I’ve spoke to numerous managers all claiming ‘ it will be picked up today’ I rang 2 weeks ago & every day since to see why it’s not collected there excuse it’s packed too high or weighs too much , I’m sorry but if you collected on the day you were supposed to people wouldn’t be dumping in it!! As a gesture my husband went out mon took OTHER people’s rubbish & went to the recycling centre in fingal at a cost of €18 just to neaten the skip up!! We’re now Thurs afternoon and guess what - management still ignoring emails & calls (Lorraine) skip is still here , I have said in last email I’m reporting Thorntons to environmental health & if any danger comes to me my family or our home due to feral teens teens thinking skips are the best fun I will sue Thorntons!! Come collect what your paid for

Googled Thorntons reviews today out of curiosity having been very badly let down regarding a skip delivery yesterday with still no sign of the skip arriving today. (Time now 13:37!) Booked and paid for skip on Thursday before a bank holiday to arrive the following Tuesday for a 3 day hire. Contacted Thornton’s first thing this morning and received a nonsense response. When I asked why Thornton’s allowed a booking to be taken, paid for and confirmed for a certain date even though there is obviously no availability the customer service agent could provide no answer . I asked to speak to her supervisor and was denied that option. I then asked how long before her supervisor would get back to me regarding my complaint she again had no answer. I’ve now emailed Thornton’s and await written response. I couldn’t pre book and pay for a treatment in a nail salon to arrive and be told no availability so I’m at a loss as to how or why Thornton’s presides over this shocking service. Having now come across these reviews I can see my case is far from isolated. Avoid at all costs! DO NOT book a skip from Thornton’s!

Ordered skip was not delivered as scheduled. It did not arrive on the agreed day. I tried contacting customer care but did not receive a proper response. Later in the evening, I received a message stating that the delay was due to operational reasons; however, no new collection or delivery date was provided. I am still waiting for an update.

Booked and paid for a standard skip and got a whopping 5% !!! discount because I am a domestic customer. Some privilege! The day is half gone and no skip and nobody is able to say when it might arrive. These people (who proclaim to be ISO certified - whatever that means), don’t seem to be in control of their delivery operation - which you’d imagine would be the most important aspect of their business. If I ordered a pencil from Amazon, I’d know when it was to be delivered. All Thorntons need to do is use fairly basic technology to manage their dispatch functions - and keep customers informed.

Booked a skip a week in advance and ended up waiting around all day with no call or confirmed time. After chasing it up, I was told it might arrive today or might be tomorrow, with no way to contact the driver.

Really disappointing service and a complete lack of communication. I won’t be using this company again and would not recommend purchasing a skip from Thorntons.

I ordered a skip from Thorntons and found the whole process great from start to finish. They informed me when the driver was on the way and when the skip would be collected. Skip was left exactly where I wanted it and the driver was so nice and helpful.

Amazing staff who are always so helpful, great app and they’ve never missed a collection. Highly recommend!!

I cancelled my household waste account with Thorntons in January 2026 and the experience has been extremely frustrating.

I requested cancellation on January 9th and was told the bins would be collected within 7–10 working days. The bins were emptied and left outside my property ready for collection, however months later they still have not been removed despite multiple follow-ups. Each time I contacted customer service I was told the request had been “raised as a priority”, but no actual collection date was provided.

Another issue is the mandatory €15 per bin cancellation fee. This fee was not clearly highlighted during the sign-up process and there is no clear version history or date on the online terms and conditions showing when it was introduced. When queried, customer service simply stated that it has been part of their policy for years, but could not provide any documentation showing this was clearly presented when I signed up.

Overall the cancellation process has been unnecessarily difficult and poorly handled. Leaving company property sitting outside a customer’s home for months after cancellation is unacceptable and the lack of transparency around cancellation fees is very disappointing.

I didn't have any issues while being an active customer however I chose to leave due to received a better offer from another provider and would have considered returning in the future however the frustration post-cancellation has ensured I will not be returning as a customer.

Absolute cowboys. They sent a text saying the skip would be delivered at 7am. After many calls (and additional charges) it arrived at 1pm. Asked them to collect it at 3pm and they wouldn't. Avoid them.

We've been with Thorntons for nearly 20 years and have found them to be exceptional.
We have experienced kindness, consideration, professionalism, speedy service, swift resolution to any issues and human understanding and interaction.
The latter is something that is missing from so many companies these days and we feel that it is invaluable! I certainly hope that Thorntons never change that aspect of their customer care.
Would highly recommend!

Such a disappointing service from start to finish. Missed bins, left with a full bin for over a weeks (3 weeks in total)
Customer service was terrible, the lack of F's was evident.
Also charged for them to collect their empty bins.

Do not get into contract with Thorntons!
Even if only one of your bins will get collected during the month, you will be paying full price.
They will raise their prices, and refuse to let you end the contract. They rise the €15 cancellation fee to €15/bin = €45, and refuse to set a day to come to take their bins away. I hope consumer affairs is able to help me to get rid of them.

If you want your bins collected, don't use Thorntons. They miss my brown bin collection at least once a month. It's an absolute joke. the compost bin is the most smelly, so it is really really annoying!

I pay for a service, and they just don't bother showing up. The rubbish is piling up, and it smells. It's pure carelessness and bad management.

I'd tell anyone looking for a bin company to look somewhere else. They are completely unreliable and not worth the hassle or the money.

The only good thing is the customer service you can reach over the phone ad they seems to be sound, however they have't done much here as my issue persists since I started the contract which has been a year now! More than 50% collections missed. What a joke of a company!

I ordered a skip from Thorntons and chose the 2 day option knowing I would need 48 hours or close to it to get it full doing a very emotional bereavement clearing. It arrived at 11:30am on Wednesday and on Thursday morning it was gone from my driveway after less than 24 hours. Contacted them and they did not dispute my claim but have no interest in following up or finding a solution. P- poor customer service from Aimee. Do not use this company for skips. I went and got two skip bags afterwards and am out hundreds thanks to Thorntons. At a difficult moment you let a family down badly

Extremely rude and condescending.

Lack of communication.

We have been using Thorntons Waste collection for the past 4 years.

In the past few months our Brown Bin was not being collected. I had to bring this to their attention on several occasions. Still to this day the issue has not been resolved.
Once our contract is up, i will not be renewing.

Communication is non existent is this company.
