The courses were well-structured

High quality teachers
I had an excellent tutor who taught the course brilliantly and shared a wealth of experience from her work in the NHS and private practice.
One thing I would add. It is incredibly difficult to secure a placement, and you cannot qualify without the 100 free hours. Some of my peers think they will have to delay a year to give them time to find a placement, some have dropped out altogether. Chrysalis do not help with that. I believe that is the case with most providers. Make connections with placement providers as soon as you can, even before you start...maybe volunteer as a support worker to get your foot in the door.

The course is thoughtfully designed, thorough, and designed to help prepare therapists to become capable and effective practitioners. I've enjoyed the course thoroughly, learning both personally and professionally. Martin has been a wonderful tutor, and his added experience, real life examples, and genuine care and attention made the course for me. Would recommend Chrysalis to any would-be practitioner.

Not user friendly
Constantly locked out of logging in to account and ridiculously overly complicated ways to upload assignments which are also inconsistent. I've never come across an institution that has different ways of uploading assignments and differing requirements during a course.
Other providers are much easier to navigate and use.

Our Student Support Team is available to assist you with any account or Moodle-related issues you may be facing. In addition, we run weekly drop-in sessions via Microsoft Teams, where we can share screens and provide guidance—particularly with any upload difficulties.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out or join one of these sessions if you need further support.
Triad Work needs more guidance
I don't think enough input is given on Skills Practice in triads and we are sent off to practice with our peers without having good skills demonstrated first. If there is not time in class we could be directed by Chrysalis to their own or other online resources which show skills in action not describe them in theory.
I also think Chrysalis should give more guidance on topics to use for skills practice with peers and provide role play scenarios for our 50 hours rather than expecting students to identify these for ourselves.
The venue is not suitable for skills practice when attending our in-person lectures.
I would like to have been offered another tutor when ours cancelled at short notice due to illness or to have the session rescheduled (online if necessary) when she was better. We were told that we would be updated the following week but we never were. Only one student has been told that we will now have our course extended by 2 months as a consequence.

We would invite you to contact the office direct to discuss these class/venue specific comments so we can look to address these where appropriate.
Long experience of delivering courses has helped us to understand that bringing something suitably mild but real to the student is often preferable to role play and helps with other aspects of training such as self-awareness and self-reflection too. Skills practice sessions in class are designed to help students understand what skills practice to undertake between sessions, and we do provide a role play scenario in most modules too. For each Component of the course there is a Practice and Research sheet which details skills and approaches to be practised between classes with peers, and of course your tutor is available to you to assist with any questions relating to practice that you have, and is happy to give you further guidance.
We apologise if your class was cancelled due to tutor illness. All efforts would have been made to source a stand-in tutor for the group but this is not always possible especially if we are notified at very short notice. Again if you would confirm to the office the class you are part of we can investigate and update you accordingly.

Don't waste £4000!!
Don't waste £4000 on this terrible, unethical course, it's an absolute shambles and a disgrace to the counselling profession. I am severely disappointed with the money I am wasting on this course. I have completed level 2 introduction, level 2 award and level 3 in counselling at a college and the standard of those courses and the ability of the teacher was 100% better and more ethical than this disgrace of a course. They are only robbing my money. The teacher is passive aggressive and doesn't answer any of our questions, only says "speak to student services", it's like she doesn't know anything about who she is working for.
This course is wholly unethical for a few reasons. 1. There are no private rooms to undertake confidential skills practices and activities. 2. The teacher is passive aggressive and I am shocked that if she is a counsellor, she is allowing herself morally to teach on such an unethical course. Our college tutor would never have allowed things to pass such as chrysalis have. The teacher is unprepared and has not done one ounce of teaching since November. She asks us to read the course notes at home, print out the presentation, and then proceeds to read out word for word the presentation, and that's it, done. She doesn't delve deeper into the teachings, and when we do our skills sessions, she says she doesn't want us to go 'too deep' with personal problems and asks us just to talk about the traffic - no self respecting person would go to counselling regarding traffic, so how is this teaching us skills?
We are also "learning" exactly what me and my peers learnt in level 2 and 3, we have not learnt anything new. The course is unethical because there are no private rooms to do skills practice, therefore we have to have confidential conversations (albeit about traffic), in front of everyone. This is NOT how skills practice should be done.
Feedback on assignments is slow, the system moodle doesn't work properly and is incredibly difficult and messy to navigate. The teacher then has the audacity to say "I know you can do better" in the assignments, when she doesn't know me and hasn't actually taught us anything, and her grammar doesn't make sense.
Me and lots of other peers have escalated our concerns to Chrysalis and the room was changed, however it is still not confidential, and it is out of the way for everyone using public transport, and STILL does not have confidential rooms away from other peers to undertake confidential skills practice and activities.
This course provider seriously needs an investigation into it's workings, because £4000 for a 2 year course where we are not learning anything and is unethical, is damn right disgusting.
I did not pay £4000 to then have to purchase expensive books (in this economy?!!), print out PowerPoints and then just have them read back to me.

Chrysalis have been delivering counselling training since 1998 and we pride ourselves in the service and training we provide to our students.
We can see that you have been in direct contact with our Concerns & Complaints Manager, and we would like to reassure you that your concerns have been responded to in detail, in our emails dated 12.01.26 and 25.01.26. This has included addressing each of the points you raised following both your first and second modules, as well as taking action where possible — for example, changes to the venue where classes are held following initial feedback to ensure venue suitability.
This was confirmed in an email to you on 23.02.26; at this time it was also confirmed to you that at all venues we use one room which is used for both teaching and breaking out into groups for practical work. At your new venue we have booked the largest meeting room they have available, so that there is space for breaking out into practice groups. In terms of confidentiality within skills practice, within the first class the tutor sets up a class agreement with all students which includes the classroom being a safe space where any discussions remain confidential.
We also took time to seek clarification from our Head of Qualifications and Quality on aspects of your concerns about the level of our courses and how these are assessed. We did confirm and reassure you that you are enrolled onto the correct course, having been granted direct entry onto year 2 (Level 4). We further confirmed that the certificate that you are awarded on successful completion is the Diploma in Counselling Skills and Theory (Level 4). You will then move into your final year of study; successful completion of this will award you the Professional Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling Practice (Level 5). We also advised that your group will comprise students from a wide range of backgrounds and possibly different training providers. Students come from various walks of life and bring with them different experiences and strengths, which contribute to the group discussion and learning.
We are sorry that aspects of the course delivery, tutor support, and learning experience have not met your expectations. All of our programmes are designed in line with regulated frameworks and awarding body requirements, with a combination of guided teaching, skills development, and independent study. However, we would always want our students to feel fully supported in their studies, and we take your feedback seriously.
In relation to your complaint, we can assure you that this has not been dismissed. Thorough and formal responses were sent to you in line with our procedures, with input from our Head of Quality and Qualifications to ensure all points were fully addressed. Within both full emails of response, we offered to discuss your concerns directly with your tutor; we did not receive a reply to these offers.
With regards to the online learning platform (Moodle), our Student Support team are on hand to offer guidance in navigating and using the system. They will be happy to have a call with you to talk you through this at a time convenient to you. The team also hold weekly online drop ins which are advertised within your Student Area, where they can offer support and screen share to guide you through the system.
We would welcome the opportunity to continue working with you to resolve your concerns constructively and ensure you feel supported in your studies. Please therefore do not hesitate to contact either your Student Support Liaison or the Concerns and Complaints Manager if you wish us to look further into your concerns for you.

Highly recommend Chrysalis in Hitchin
I am a current student on Chrysalis 3 year psychotherapy course. I have been really happy with the course, content is great, monthly sessions that fit in around life and a full time job. The 2 tutors I have had Emma for year 1 and Leigh year 2&3 have been amazing. So helpful, friendly, knowledgeable, great teachers. I have learned so much and am progressing towards completion in November. I would highly recommend this course especially the Hitchin course with Emma and Leigh.
