Capium is somewhere average software on a technical front. The customer service team is trying their best to keep supporting customers.

Nick has been very excellent with MTD ITSA. Twice he has assisted me with MTD ITSA problems. It was very swift, quick and no time wasting

We have been using Capium for a number of years now, and are currently in the process of switching over to MTD for income tax. Nick has been a huge help in assisting us with this process and has made the switchover much easier by responding quickly to our queries and going above and beyond to help us sort out any issues. It has definitely made a big difference as we try to navigate these changes as smoothly as possible.

Software not compatible with Mobile or Edge browser or Chrome browser or when using incognito mode. DocuSign works every time so I do not understand how they cannot make it work?

I have used Capium software for 6 months now. It was a bit tricky to begin with as it is with every software when you are trying to learn it from scratch as they are all different. After initial struggles from switching I am now quite comfortable with it and use it for all my clients with bookkeeping, payroll, accounts preparation & CT submissions. The support is great and individual sessions have been extremely helpful and all team members I have dealt with have been very polite and professional. Overall I do think it is a good software and very competitive pricing & good value for money for small firms.

I had to book an individual meeting with one the team member as I had some queries regarding MTD module. The person who attend the meeting was very helpful and she went through my queries step by step. We use Capium for the accounts production as well as for tax returns. It is very easy to understand and the staff always offer us outstanding support when we get to raise a ticket. As for the MTD IT module, we find it very easy to use. Thank you to all the teams behind Capium for your incredible work and outstanding service.

We have found the new MTD IT software extremely easy to use as an accountancy practice managing a number of MTD IT clients. The ability to bulk authorise clients has saved us a significant amount of time and is an excellent feature.

Submitting our first return was a smooth and intuitive process, with the added benefit of being able to request client approval before submission. The transaction import template is also straightforward and easy to use, making data uploads quick and efficient.

Overall, the software has provided a great experience and has made managing MTD IT submissions much more efficient for our practice.

This platform isn't set up for small businesses that are making the transition to MTD. I've had nothing but issues; the portal isn't easy to use, all the support videos are made with accountants in mind, not tradespeople, you get AI generated responses, it's difficult to talk to a human being and support tickets are closed before they have been resolved. Avoid at all costs...Following my review, Capium invited me to speak with their customer success and technical teams, who were professional and took the time to explain the product and listen to my feedback. Unfortunately, whilst I appreciated their openness, it didn't change my overall experience of using the platform.

We’ve been using Capium for almost a year now, and we’re genuinely impressed with how it’s shaped up. Sure, there were a few hiccups early on, but once things settled, it’s been smooth and reliable. The customer service and support have been spot‑on too — always prompt and really helpful. It’s become a solid part of our day‑to‑day.

I have been using Capium’s Bookkeeping, Accounts Production, and Tax Return modules for about a year. I also trialled their Payroll and Practice Management modules but did not like them, so I did not continue beyond the free trial. This review therefore relates only to the Bookkeeping, Accounts Production, and Tax Return modules.

I have experience using a wide range of accounting software, and in comparison, I find Capium to be far from user-friendly. You will spend a significant amount of time working out where and how to record data. Compared to more established and reputable software, processing information in Capium takes noticeably longer.

For this reason, I do not believe this software is suitable for a busy practice. Training new staff would be challenging due to its poor usability. However, it is worth noting that Capium’s support team is responsive and helpful, typically replying within one working day.

One positive aspect is data synchronisation. I particularly like the functionality whereby updating the trial balance in the Accounts Production module automatically updates the saved accounts in accounts production and in CT600.

To give a couple of examples: while preparing a tax return, I needed to adjust Class 4 NICs due to NICs already paid on employment income. I could not work out how to do this within the software and eventually had to raise a support ticket with Capium. Although they responded the next day and explained the process, this is not something that should require support intervention.

Another example relates to claiming Foreign Tax Credit Relief. After entering the foreign income, recording the foreign tax deducted, and ticking the “claim foreign tax credit relief” box, the tax computation still did not reflect the relief. After spending considerable time experimenting with different options, I discovered that the foreign tax credit also needed to be entered under the “unremitted income” tab. This is an illogical location when the income is not unremitted. Additionally, the foreign tax credit must be calculated manually by comparing the foreign tax paid with the UK tax on the same income.

That said, the software does have a lot of potential. However, it clearly needs stronger input from a business analyst to improve usability and eliminate unnecessary repetition. For example, claiming Foreign Tax Credit Relief requires entering the same data across three different tabs, and recording brought-forward losses also requires input in multiple locations.

In summary, in its current state, this software is not suitable for a busy practice. It is not user-friendly and requires excessive repetitive data entry.

We are using capium and its very affordable and reliable software for bookkeeping, VAT and and accounts.
