I specifically asked for 2 things to be done to the bike - both of which I could do myself were it not for the fact that I didn't have the specific tool required. I agreed the price with the guy at the desk and left it with him.

As with many technical jobs, the workshop guys took in the bike and immediately assessed everything (not just what I asked for). They then rang me to tell me that there was x,y & z wrong with the bike, trying to rip me off by saying that they couldn't possibly do the job I requested without new chain, new brake pads, new cassette etc. ( I would have to pay about 3x the price for all of this, some of which I had replaced not one month ago, so I knew was perfectly fine)

Classic case of trying to trick somebody they assumed knew nothing about bike maintenance into paying for things they didn't need. Such a shame.

I suggest that next time somebody brings in a bike and tells you explicitly what they need fixing, just do as they've asked. Perhaps make a note of any other issues you find and let them know that you could fix it if they'd like. Don't try and force them into paying extra for it. I had to say "Can you do the job I have requested, or do I need to collect the bike and take it to a different shop?" in order to get them to stop trying to twist my arm into buying other things.

Remember that the cycling community is not always rich - if I could afford to fix everything I'd probably buy a new bike! Look after the little guys just getting into cycling & make it a great customer experience...it's not hard! @Balfe presumably started the company to help people fix bikes - not rip them off!

The team is very polite and helpful. Very happy with the help received with the cyclescheme process. One of the few shops where you can pay a deposit to block the bike. Something not available at Evans cycle for example, which lost us as customers.

Went to get a broken bell replaced. The mechanic Joao sorted me out quickly and didn’t charge me!

Bike shop experience has been pretty varied in recent years. This was exceptional - a slick online experience combined with a really friendly shop pick up and Elias even dropped a couple of extras round to my office by hand. Many Thanks.
