Dishonest clerk at THRifty. Declined the insurance and toll transponder and the clerk told me to put my card in the approval machine for identification. Was billed for insurance and ended up double paying on my tolls as I used my EZ Pass not knowing the Thrifty clerk charge me to get a commission. Really dishonest low life car rental .

Waited in line for 4.5 hours at the Las Vegas airport to pick the car up. About 100-150 people in front of me. When I got to the garage, they pointed to the convertibles & said “take 1”. I had to figure out how to use it, loaded all of my stuff in & attempted to leave. But at the exit gate I was told there was something wrong with the car & had to go back, unload everything, take the only convertible left, a stripped down model with no extras, the windows didn’t meet when you put them up & the doors weren’t even when closing. Then I was charged $200 more than I was given when I reserved it.

I prepaid for a car rental with Thrifty from the Boston Logan airport location. I was aware that this location requires a proof of round trip travel to rent with a debit card, per the online terms. My round trip is January-July, and I only needed the car for two days. I called their help line three separate times to confirm that this round trip information would be acceptable, and I was assured each time that it was. However, it was not. The online terms need to be updated to reflect the exact criteria for appropriate proof of round trip travel, and the help staff should receive training to ensure that accurate information is provided.

Would provide no stars if possible.
Price was nowhere near what we were quoted in pre booking. We could have gone with a much better company for the same final price. I feel like we have been robbed of about 200 dollars.
We rented on the Big Island of Hawaii. The shuttle was so delayed and slow. The queues were huge and customers dealt with slowly.
The car itself was utter rubbish. I'm surprised we actually managed to get around the island without it breaking down. The tiny engine in such a big car (we booked a compact.. not sure how a massive saloon car is a compact) could barely cope with the hills on the island. We had a couple of touch and go moments where we started rolling backwards as the engine couldn't cope. Note this was on normal roads around the outskirts of Kona, we weren't trying to do anything off road or unusual.
The car was pretty damaged and dirty and the parking cameras kept going off.
I wish we had gone with literally any one else. I'm fairly sure even the big brands like National would have been cheaper in the end anyway.

I will never use this company again!! First we landed in Phoenix on Saturday 4/22 and we're taken to to rental car building. They told us to put our name on a list because cars were not available and they would call us at least 1 hour. So 1.5 hours later my husband went back to counter and finally they gave us a car. Unfortunately we go to the garage and there are at least 30 people waiting for a car and the garage is empty!! We again waited for a total of 2 hours!!!! No one from the company came to tell us what was happening and no management!! They sent 2 cops down to make sure nothing happened!! We finally got a small car just to get out of there!! Will never us this company again!!!!

We arrived at 7:30pm and were told there was a 2 hour wait for a car. We waited and then we were told there would be no cars until the next morning. There was a woman also waiting and told the same thing. In tears, she explained she was here for her brother’s funeral. The manager said he was sorry and shut the sliding window.
We had to pay for a hotel and a Lyft to and from the airport. Now it’s the next morning and we’ve been waiting for two hours and we still have no car.
They of course, already charged our credit car. And there is no recourse.
What a terrible way to treat customers.
Sorry doesn’t cut it.

Thrifty Car Rental using Expedia - waited 3 hours after landing at 23:30 to get vehicle. Invoice from Expedia was $400 - non anticipated additional charges at Thrifty were $500. Will not use Thrifty or Expedia going forward.

I waited 2 hours in line at ATX to pick up a paid for rental. Now, it was the Tuesday before thanksgiving, but all the other car rental agencies had either very short lines or no lines. Only Thrifty had a lengthy line.

Funchal rental - Booked a Renault clio, simple ecomomy car - only car available was a big Hyundai, hybrid, which I hated ! - was overcharged for fuel and had to pay some sort of tax which was assumed to be included in the original quote. I reckon I was overcharged by about 80eu - which was about half as much again, as the rental. - Won't use them again.

When we arrived in Honolulu, we went upstairs to complete our paperwork. 1 hour wait in long line. Got our paperwork for our car and went downstairs only to find a line of 30 people waiting for non-existent cars. They were waiting for people to return cars. Cancelled reservation and went to Budget who had an over abundance of cars. I wish the upstairs would have told us before we went downstairs.

Upgrade from 2 wheel drive to 4 wheel drive was Over $950 dollars more? Almost $1000 for an 8 day rental upgrade fees on top of what was already paid. Even thier luxury rentals for same time frame aren't 50% of that!!!!!!!!! Not to mention it was booked through a booking agency who charged us over $212 already!!! The person told my husband there was a big storm coming in and he should really have 4 wheel drive, when my husband questioned the charges, the guy said they were only that high because it was an estimate and it would be less if returned undamaged with a full tank!! I am beyond livid. Their Customer service sucks, days with no responses.

These people after taking a deposit of £642 to hire the car after I'd already paid for it. They refunded the money and then took out a further £192, when I challenged them about this they said I signed for a toll charge of $13 per day. I said you must be crazy, due to a family member having long covid we didn't travel every day and the most I should be charged for the few tolls we went through was $13 for the entire rental period. They also had a charge for fuel and I entered into an agreement to return the vehicle with any amount of fuel in the tank $54. Never ever use these people, always ask your travel agent who the car hire is with, if they say Thrifty just hell no.

Paid Argus car Hire over £1500 for a seven seater for two weeks in Florida---Thrifty said they would give me a FREE upgrade---did not need or want one as HOW can you upgrade on a seven seater. Anyway on my return to UK--THRIFTY had charged £533 to my American Express---saying I had an UPGRADE --and produced the ipad awful signature that they told me to sign for the keys and waiver for any damage to car. i have been renting in Florida for over 29 years--and know that you leave your credit card and sign to say that you will be charged for any damage etc---BUT this company scammed me out of £533 --and I had to wait for over an hour at their desk when I arrived at airport. They told my credit card company that if they did not let the charge stand they would send a DEBT COLLECTOR to my home for the money!!!!! I looked at their Face Book page and see that what happened to me has happened time and time again to others. Car broke down 2 days into hire term and wasted a day replacing it--and had to take it back myself to airport for replacement!!!!

I got to Denver at 8 pm and Thrifty Car Rental would not honor the price that I had got through Expedia . Expedia did refund my money but now I'm stuck at Thrift with no rental. Then I had to rent a car for one day at 1/2 the price for a 10 day rental to get to where I needed to go

Thrifty billed me $60 on $18 for tolls administration charge, plus gave me a different vehicle, a scratched up lesser quality car. There are no toll booths in CO, and all tolls are booked to the owner of the car automatically. Staff in parking lot said just photograph all marks on car when I asked how to avoid being charged for another's damage. Thrifty is now a no customer service business with an empty website and no staff to handle issues. Avoid them.

We traveled from the UK to Los Angeles and had prebooked a rental from Thrifty at Los Angeles Airport (LAX). The rental included all the normal extras. As usual the clerk tried to get us to upgrade from a Compact which we declined. She then filled in some papers and said sign here, here and here then gave us the papers and told us where to find a car.
When we returned home we found that we had been charged for breakdown cover. At no time was this ever mentioned or discussed as we would have declined it and, had the car broken down, not have used it as we did not know we had it. Be careful if you use Hertz, Dollar or Thrifty at LAX as they may scam you as well!

Called customer service, have no option but to pay 25% more for rental because the driver and credit card holder is different (sponsored driver). When challenged said that's the policy and simply put the phone down.

The collection line at SFO was super slow and the Thrifty line was 10 times busier than all the others. When we picked up the car we weren't told anything about toll charges for the bridges in California. Weeks later we received letters from an associated debt collection agency claiming for the tolls, plus inflated admin charges. I'm not suggesting this is illegal, but it seemed like a deliberate strategy of omission - we would happily have paid Thrifty directly for any tolls incurred - for example via the credit card swipe they take.

Strongly advise that you pay the extra 30 bucks or so and go for a more reputable rental company.

Rented a car at south beach Miami on June 26. They took a $200 deposit. Returned the car with full tank and in A1 condition but they will not refund my deposit over six weeks later. Theft, pure and simple, from a shoddy outfit. Rent from them at your peril, I wouldn’t go near them again.

Absolutely diabolical…worst customer experience I have ever received…especially in America!! Stood in line for >2hrs to process car hire @ Thrifty car hire LAX…once paperwork done after another 30-40mins…we were told we had to join another queue for car delivery…when I asked how long this could be I was told another 1-2 hours…at this point i cancelled my rental and took an Uber to Disney instead. Staff showed no empathy (especially given my 11hr flight) and manager extremely hostile…couldn’t take constructive criticism. AVOID THIS PLACE!!
