Price and terms and conditions not respected
They deal with a third party that does not honor the terms and conditions listed by rent-a-wreck. I was asked to pay between 300$ and 500$ USD more for insurance coverages. No other rental company in Costa Rica has forced me to take out insurance other than third party liability (which is supposed to be included in the price you pay through rent-a-wreck. I chose this company because the deposit was supposed to be of 250$ maximum (again, as per the terms and conditions of Rent-a-Wreck). However, the third party was asking for 500$ up to 3000$. Be aware that the price quoted on this website is not what you will end up paying. Do not pay in advance if you wish to complete a reservation.

This company is so bad
This company is so bad. They quote $30/day but the required charges end up being $80/day. Their practices are borderline unethical. The customer experience is dismal so you might as well go ahead and pay for Enterprise.

I didn’t like the attitude of the woman when I ask for the shuttle to take me back to airport she said there is a store on the corner you can wait there I was lost asking where the store was I almost called for Uber other than that all good thank you

Shady practices
Price more than doubled from what I was quoted upon showing up to the rental agency (I didn’t have time to change to another renter). Still have not received my $250 deposit. Store does not pick up the phone and hasn’t responded to email inquiries.

An Experience
It was alright, not great. I pd 445.00 fir a week. When I got to the place, I had To pay an additional 300.00 to take the car. The car was dirty and very Compact. My stress level was very high. When I had to go home. I had to bring the car back to Rent a Wreck in East Haven and find a ride to the airport, my daughter and I.This was very UNPROFESSIONAL!! It was raining. And cold. They never opened up, even at 9:30. THEY DID REFUND MY DEPOSIT 3 DAYS LATTER.

The individuals who checked me in and…
The individuals who checked me in and out were very professional and kind. The automobile ran fine and provided amenities that helped combat the cold. The passenger side bump, where the feet are, was very uncomfortable. It caused my wife to contort her body which gave her some pains in her hips and back. It has been over 3 days and I haven’t received the money withheld when I rented the car.

Poor Customer Service
I flew into New Haven and called Rent a Wreck requesting a pickup. The driver showed up 20 minutes later ( I was informed it would take 20 Minutes).We arrived at the place of business. I asked to see the vehicle prior to filling out the paperwork. There was a lingering scent of cigarette smoke in the vehicle. I was informed the car was cleaned and the smoke scent should not be there.. I requested another vehicle because I was allergic to cigarette smoke. I was informed by Sherrie, counter agent, that this was the only car for rent. I was welcomed to rent the van that picked me up but it would cost more. I asked again for another vehicle. Sherri informed me that there weren't additional vehicles for rent. I refused the rental due to the cigarette smoke. Then I asked for a ride back to the airport so I could rent a car from there . Sherri was rude and said that I would have to find my own way back to the airport. After a little back and forth she finally agreed to take the 4 of us back to the airport.

Pick up, and drop off
Very timely outside the airport, and very short, but well done check of the rental vehicle to label all of the scratches prior to my taking off with the vehicle. The Subaru ran very well, had plenty of space, and was a fun vehicle to run over the mountains and Lake Tahoe.

A Wreck, indeed.
The car was indeed, a wreck. The front bumper held on with duct tape and a screw. The checkout form showed that it had minor scratches and dents - but it had much worse problems than that. When I pointed this out to the employee, they said it would be okay. I took pictures but decided to trust them. The A/C worked intermittently. The low-pressure light for the tire was on the whole time. The interior was way jacked up.
All of that being said... the car did, in fact, operate. Got me where I needed to go. The price was the best in town. And when it was time to turn it in, they were true to their word and didn't try to say that I caused any of the damage. So, ultimately, I'm glad I rented there. Although, it was a bit concerning while I had it. Not necessarily peace of mind. The airport shuttle was very convenient and timely too. Pros and cons!

Great customer service
I was admittedly nervous booking through expedia and then discovering my rental car was not at the reno airport, but a 5 minute drive away or 48 minute walk. The people who work there are so friendly and easy going though! They drove me back to the airport in the sane car so I didn't have to unload the car and then load all my luggage up in a shuttle. Two days before I picked up the car the weather also went from sunny to chance of snow and it was so easy calling them up to upgrade to an and vehicle! Would definitely use em again!

Neither cheap or convenient
I was expecting an on-site rental kiosk and pickup.
Ignoring that the very last step before confirming the reservation slapped several hundred dollars more onto the final price that was neither advertised or listed as to what those fees were what I got was I arrived at the airport, called a number and gave a code, they instructed me to wait at a location for someone to pick me up and was sent to a rather questionable industrial area late at night and away from the airport where I then received my rental.

Absolutely HORRIBLE experience
Absolutely HORRIBLE experience! First of all, the rate that I signed up for through Orbitz was only about 1/4 of what I actually had to pay. Upon arrival, they hit you up with an additional $260 worth of “insurance” fees that are allegedly Mexican law.
Also, the car they initially tried to give us, had a broken windshield wiper (more on that later), so they swapped our car out for another similar one. You could tell the wiper was already broken beforehand as the bracket had been snapped off. It was just placed back on in the hopes I wouldn’t notice so they could charge me for it later.
We got into the new car they gave us and luckily I checked the fuel level, because the form they had me sign stated it was a full tank of gas. I get in the car and it only has 3/8 of a tank. So I had to go back to the office AGAIN to get them to modify the paperwork.
Also, the car they gave me had a spare tire on the front driver side! Thankfully, before we drove away, my wife took pictures and video of the car to prove we didn’t do any damage.
Here is where things get interesting…upon returning the car at the end of our trip, the lady inspecting the car immediately looked at the spare tire and told us we had to pay for the missing tire! When we told her we received the car like that, she asked “do you have proof?” Again, luckily my wife had pictures and video to prove it! So we got out of that one.
Then, we proceeded inside the building to give the keys back and get our security deposit of $900 back. The lady said “ok, please fill out this accident report. We are only charging you for the broken windshield wiper”. WHAT!? The windshield wiper was broken on a car I didn’t even end up renting! We had to fight with them for 20 minutes to agree to not charge us for damage done on a car we didn’t even drive! They still made us fill out the accident report, but I wouldn’t do so until they 100% refunded the security deposit.
Moral of the story is be sure to take pictures and video of EVERYTHING on the car or else they’ll try to get you for it later! But really, just completely avoid this company at all costs! I don’t even understand how they’re still in business, honestly! RENTER BEWARE!!!
