So I tried to sign in thru my church account. But alas it won't let me. The original link I was given no longer works. Maybe this is good for a first timer but I find this experience to be at most fustrating.

Frustrated researcher

I have been researching for about 10 years and always found FMP too expensive. However I was becoming frustrated with limited access to 1921 census and as they offered a 30% reduction finally bit the bullet. I didn't realise that Ancestry.com was opening up the records very shortly afterwards so felt a little silly.

However I have been using FMP on and off for a month or so and find it increasingly annoying that you cannot open certain information in separate windows for inspection and have to spend a lot of time hitting the back button far too many times.

Ancestry (for me) seems far more intuitive. - and better deals £££ to be had

Working with my tree in FMP is difficult

I do not find working with my tree in Findmypast to be very easy and find myself racing back to FamilySearch or Ancestry because that is where I am comfortable. However I do like the resources which are found in Findmypast, and am very grateful for the ability to access those resources.

I found your service beneficial, and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to research their Family Tree.

I was able to gain information on some of my distant ancestors as well as add a few more to the Family Tree which may benefit others who were researching their relatives.

Tree Population Problems

I like it but don’t understand why it is so difficult to get my family tree transferred. Other places let me populate my tree from other places like Family Search. Find my past won’t let me do that. If I could transfer my family tree from other sites, I’d rank it higher. Trying to rebuild my tree is a pain.

You can upload any GEDCOM file that you have which contains your family tree.

To do this, you just need to click on the 'Family Tree' button at the top of the web page followed by 'Import a Tree'.

You will then have the option to upload your GEDCOM file from your PC to your Findmypast account (much as you would when uploading a photo).

I would of liked more options to search someone within the last 60 years

I disliked the fact that you have hardly any evidence of people within the last 60 years. No copies of telephone records even if I had the name, address and phone number to confirm.

No section to put in where someone worked and dates.

I have the persons name, brothers name, address where they lived in the 80's even a telephone number, but no options to put this information in.

In order to upload a family tree from another source all that is required is a GEDcom file.

Once you have the file you can then click 'Family Tree' followed by 'Import a Tree'. We have a guide with step by step instructions here:

I periodically get "hints" from find my…

I periodically get "hints" from find my past but when I click on link it "forces" me to look at ad to upgrade service and will NOT allow me to view hint without upgrading. this is very annoying - either provide hints without restrictions or do not provide hints - choose.

One of the best heritage sites I have…

One of the best heritage sites I have used. The amount of accurate information offered (as opposed to me having to hunt for info) is astonihsing and takes a lot of legwork out of the business of tracing one's roots.
