My kiddos loved the camps this week
My kiddos loved the camps this week. They participated in 3 different camps the film effects, YouTube gamers and redstone engineers. Izaly (hopefully spelling right) was awesome for my older son and for the redstone engineers for both. My younger some also really enjoyed his teacher but sadly didn’t remember her name. Lillian the camp manager at Cedar Park was also incredible. Thank you for a great week.

Special Effects film class
My almost 9 yr old grandson really enjoyed his time in his special effects film class. Each day he would recount the events of his day. Truly in his element! Grateful he was able to have this opportunity. His instructor,Ms. An was wonderful

We traveled for 10+ hours to attend…
We traveled for 10+ hours to attend this camp, thinking that our son would love it for his birthday. Because there were so many people on the WiFi at the same time, there was issues with loading and processing. Specifically, the app that they created had issues with processing and it created so much anxiety that my son didn’t even want to attend the final day.
I spoke with an instructor who was kind and said they had ways to get their videos to play on the screen. She stated that the issue was known, but I don’t think they communicated that to the kids. Since it didn’t work at camp, he felt pressured to get it done after hours. Since we were away from home, this was during our vacation time.
I think this is a good camp for locals, I don’t recommend traveling to attend.
If the technology issues could be communicated to parents and students on the front end, that could ease some tension as well.
If there are issues with WiFi, I recommend staggering the number of people on it at the same time.
I was hoping to see photos or get information on what skills were learned so that we could continue to build on them.
Overall, this wasn’t a fun experience for him. Which is really disappointing. Hopefully some of this feedback will help with the future communications or others looking to travel for this camp.

First and foremost, we are deeply incredibly sorry that what was supposed to be a special birthday trip and vacation ended up causing your son so much anxiety. Traveling more than 10 hours to attend our camp is an incredible compliment, and it breaks our hearts to hear that technical frustrations overshadowed his experience and kept him from wanting to attend the final day.
You raised some excellent, highly practical points, and we want to address how we are handling these technical hurdles and your recommendations:
Handling WiFi and Processing Bottlenecks: When a room full of creative kids hit upload at the same time, it can absolutely throttle the local network and cause lagging. Your suggestion to stagger WiFi usage or render times is a fantastic, common-sense solution, and we are working with our instructional teams to implement better pacing so the tech can keep up with the kids.
Improving Front-End Communication: You are completely right, tech issues happen, but the anxiety comes from the kids feeling like they did something wrong or that they are falling behind. We are updating our instructor guidelines to ensure that if a lag occurs, the team immediately pauses to reassure the class: "Hey everyone, the network is just processing a lot of awesome data right now. Your work is safe, you aren't behind, and we have a backup plan to get your videos on the big screen." Kids should never feel pressured to work after hours on their vacation.
Continuing the Learning at Home: Our core mission is to equip students with the tools they need to keep creating long after camp ends. That is actually one of the main reasons we choose to use highly accessible technology like iPads and mobile apps, so the barrier to entry remains low when they go home. We would be more than happy to share specific ways and resources your son can use to continue building on the skills he learned during his time with us.
We are so glad our instructor was able to be kind and offer a workaround, but we deeply regret that the overall experience was disappointing for his birthday. We take your feedback seriously to ensure future traveling families, and locals alike, have a seamless, stress-free experience.

We loved Creator Camp
We loved Creator Camp! My six (almost seven) year old was in heaven. He always is building, creating, trying to make videos, etc.. At home, and he was so excited to learn. Sam, his instructor said that Andy was definitely in his element and caught in perfectly and was very focused. Sam was awesome and personable. The whole crew at the Round Rock/Hutto Texas location was amazing. We have one more Camp this week, but I wish I would have signed my kid up for more this summer! We will definitely be back!.

happy lego accomplishments
My son and his friend had enjoyed the lego animation camp the previous summer and looked forward to returning. Mr. Harrison and Ms.Luna (at Lake Travis Methodist Church, Austin, TX) were friendly, positive, and encouraging. They gently challenged them to continue their growth and learning with the material. They also provided a safe and productive place to manage relationships with new peers. The result: happy kids with a sense of accomplishment and a new hobby to share.

Over it
This is our second year at Creator Camp, and maybe our last, which makes me sad to say. First, I want to say that my son loved his class and loved his specific teacher. He did a stop motion animation camp, and he enjoyed making videos and putting them online.
Our issue was with the camp director on-site, Bri. She was really unkind to our child. She put her feet around the chair legs of my son's chair to stop him from getting up, because he was allegedly disrespectful to another teacher. Another teacher was asking my son the same question about his hat over and over again, and my son eventually got visibly frustrated answering questions and Bri said, "oh no, I dont like that," and then blocked his chair.
The next day, my son brought a PBJ for lunch. Apparently, the campus was nut free, but I genuinely don't recall that being communicated to the parents. Bri confiscated his lunch and yelled at him, and when he said, "hey, I paid for that, you can't just take my lunch, what am i going to eat" she then put him in her office for being "disrespectful." Imagine being 9, at camp, and having an adult snatch your lunch away like that. He didn't pack his lunch; he didn't know anything about a nut policy. There was a way for Bri to address this situation in a way that was kind and professional, but she did not go that route.
Here's the thing---if you treat kids poorly, and snatch their lunches away like you are a prison warden, you aren't going to get respect in return. Luckily, I work nearby and was able to bring him lunch and he finished his day with his class. But, these events put a major damper on what was supposed to just be a fun camp to break up summer boredom. Instead of getting summer fun, it was stressful because an unkind adult singled him out and treated him poorly. Knowing he was at camp with her all day the last day gave me anxiety. I seriously considered pulling him and asking for a refund, but he really liked his actual class and wanted to go back. My son's teacher said he was a star student and did very well, but Bri soured the entire experience for us.

While we are incredibly glad to hear that your son loved his stop-motion animation class, was a star student, and connected so well with his instructor, the rest of your report is deeply concerning to us.
What you described regarding our onsite manager, Bri, completely contradicts our core values, our staff training, and how we believe children should be treated. We want to address both incidents directly:
The Incident with the Chair: Using physical barriers or trapping a student's chair to restrict their movement is completely unacceptable. Our staff is trained to handle frustration and behavioral disruptions with de-escalation tactics, patience, and respectful communication, never through intimidation or physical containment.
The PB&J Incident: While we do enforce a strict nut-free policy for the safety of campers with severe, life-threatening allergies, our protocol for handling an accidental nut product is firmly rooted in kindness. Under no circumstances should a child be yelled at, have their food aggressively confiscated, or be isolated in an office for expressing natural confusion and distress over losing their lunch. We are so glad you were nearby to bring him food, but you never should have been put in that position.
Please rest assured that we are taking this report incredibly seriously.
We completely understand why this soured the experience and caused you anxiety as a parent. No project supervision ..
Hollywood Filmmaker was not at all what we expected.
Parents should know that much of the filmmaking process appears to be left entirely up to the kids, with very little adult oversight. Last year, my 8-year-old nephew attended, and what he described was concerning. According to him, the older children voted down his ideas because he was younger, then created a film where students chased each other through a school with a pencil pretending it was a knife.
What was most surprising was that this project was filmed at a church in Alamo Heights, San Antonio, yet there seemed to be no review or approval process for the content being created. The final video reportedly included special effects showing blood throughout school hallways, which I found completely inappropriate for a children's program.
Their mother contacted the organization and sent the video the kids made afterward and was assured that changes would be made to prevent something similar from happening again. While leadership did provide a formal apology that seemed sincere, it’s unfortunate that the experience was not a good one. You would think a new offer or discount would available to make it better and a memorable experience.
Beyond the content concerns, the overall customer experience was disappointing. The staff did not seem particularly welcoming or enthusiastic. Based on the promotional materials, I expected an energetic and encouraging environment, but that was not our experience. Not at all like the ads on TV. I hope the kids watching them have a background check and I truly hope there is stronger management oversight this year, both in supervising the projects and creating a more positive atmosphere for families. Customer experience matters just as much as the activity itself.
My sister did not have time to pursue the issue further, but I wanted to share our experience so other parents can make informed decisions. My advice: ask questions at drop-off about how projects are supervised, what content guidelines are in place, and how final videos are reviewed before being shown.

We take the safety, supervision, and overall experience of our campers very seriously. Here is how we are addressing the concerns you raised:
Location and Supervision: We have moved our program out of the church location and are now operating in a school facility. We can assure you that students are supervised by our staff at all times throughout the day, from drop-off to pick-up.
Creative Freedom vs. Content Guidelines: While we do not condone the specific themes of the video made by that group last year, our philosophy is to give students the creative freedom to explore filmmaking ideas they are passionate about. That being said, we took the feedback from last summer to heart. This year, we have implemented stronger management oversight and clearer content boundaries to ensure that while kids have creative control, projects remain safe, inclusive, and appropriate for all age levels. We also work hard to ensure younger students' voices are valued in group settings.
Customer Experience: We pride ourselves on creating an energetic, welcoming, and encouraging environment, and we are deeply sorry that our onsite team did not reflect that during your nephew's session. We have redoubled our training efforts this year to ensure our staff brings the enthusiasm and positive atmosphere that families expect from our program.
Staff Screenings: To give you peace of mind regarding the team supervising the campers, we do require background checks for our staff to ensure a safe environment for everyone.
We are glad our leadership team was able to connect with your sister last year to offer a sincere apology and commit to these changes. We truly implore your family to see how we have improved and upgraded our program for this year.

10yr old loved his Minecraft Camp!
My 10 year old loved his 2-day Minecraft camp. Shout out to his counselor Katherine who, despite a temporary internet outage due to the weather, was able to entertain the kids and keep them busy. My son said the best part about the camp was the counselors, but he also loved learning new things about Minecraft.
