I was very disappointed in CDS's customer service
I was very disappointed in CDS's customer service. I registered for a generator tune-up in September. I was told tuneups were being scheduled for October. OK. The service eventually was done on November 11.
I had to pay the fee up front. My credit card was charged almost immediately, which I thought was unusual. I don't remember ever paying for a service from a reputable company before the service was rendered, especially for a delay of service of about 6 weeks. The card should have been processed when the work was completed.
When the tech showed up, it was a rainy day. It had not rained for two weeks prior and no rain was scheduled for another two weeks. I was told it was not a problem. I felt very uncomfortable in having the unit opened up for an oil change, valve check, and new spark plugs. Even if there was no downpour, I was concerned about the moisture entering the system. I was reassured that this is ok and done all the time. Ok, but should it be? A neighbor had replacement windows installed in the rain with tarps and umbrellas. He was assured that it could be done. But should it? (Of, course, there was a schedule to keep.) Some mowers in our neighborhood start their jobs very early in the morning when the grass is wet with dew, sometimes very wet, and you can see the foggy mist that trails the mowers. It can be done. Should it?
The tech assigned for our job was terrific in all ways, and I yielded to the moment. I was offered a rescheduled date in December,. I had to go back in line vs. setting a date closer in. I waited since September and I knew that if for CDS the original date for service was set for "sometime" in October really became November, a December reschedule probably meant January. And this all started in September.
CDS indicated that it was processing 800 tuneups a year. I certainly felt like I was on that conveyer belt. I don't expect TLC from a generator company, only some sense that the customer matters. I got that from roofers, chimney people, and some small contractors. Next time I will reduce the CDS workload from 800 to 799 appointments and do everyone a favor. I understand that scheduling can be complex but if it becomes so rigid that having a customer go back to the end of the line for a reschedule or if the schedule is so hell-bent on keeping on track that customer service is compromised, than something is wrong with this model. The job involved changing two plugs, an air filter, and less than a quart of oil that could have been changed almost with white gloves--easy and not messy like an oil change for a car--and a long list of check this and that. I did not keep track of time, but it took 2 hours at the most, probably less, much less. Somehow there should have been a two hour time slot available for a reschedule earlier than December/January for an appointment made in September.

QUEST FOR A GOOD SAFE GENERATOR
After many years of looking for a good and safe backup generator, I was grateful to hear from CDS-GENERAC about their new series of generators. Mr. Andrews was very informative about the attributes and pricing of the product. The technicians who installed the generator were extremely skilled and gracious with the explanations of the product and ifs use, in addition to the maintenance requirents. All in all, I was very satisfied with CDS at the inital stages of generator ownership. As of now I have no criticisms of CDS at this stage of ownership.

The entire team from CDS was awesome. From the estimators to the planners to the technicians doing the installation. Everyone was professional courteous and friendly. The work was excellent. Everything was completed on time and people showed up when they said they would. Care was taken to protect my property and to keep the worksite clean and safe. I highly recommend then if you are going to install a generator.
