Boots Opticians High Street Kensington brilliant experience
The woman whom tested my eyes with the machines was a delight super efficient polite and kind. The other woman who undertook the eye exam was really lovely efficient and gave me lots of useful information.
Boots High Street Kensington was a lovely experience with these two highly trained intelligent careful members of staff whom really went above and beyond to reassure me about the process

Apparent Misdiagnosis and Upselling of Expensive Treatments
This review is directed specifically at Boots Opticians, The Hundred, Romsey, Hampshire (SO51 8DG).
In March 2024 I had my NHS eye test at Boots Opticians in Romsey. At the time, I was suffering from some eye irritation and the optician (Chris) diagnosed blepharitis, a “common inflammation of the eyelid margins” and “is a chronic condition which can last many years”. After my eye test, but before leaving the shop, I was subjected to what felt like a hard sell of very expensive treatments for the condition, despite already having purchased lower cost treatments. I politely declined.
In May 2025 I suffered a further bout of the same eye irritation symptoms and approached my GP surgery who directed me to the Urgent Eyecare service and then on again to Boots Opticians in Romsey. This time I was given an entirely different diagnosis of severe dry eyes and was told unequivocally by the optician (Sarah) that I did not have blepharitis. I bought medication to treat the dry eyes, but again received the hard sell spiel for expensive treatments. Again I politely declined.
The only reasonable conclusion that can be drawn is that in March 2024 I was misdiagnosed with blepharitis, a chronic condition, and was then offered expensive treatments for a condition from which I was not suffering.
I had put this down to experience, but over the last few months, two years since my last NHS eye test, I’ve since received a plethora of mailshots and phone calls from Boots Opticians advising me to arrange my next eye test. During two of the calls, I relayed in detail my dissatisfaction with the service received from Boots Opticians in Romsey and suggested that they contact the branch to ask that the branch manager calls me to discuss my concerns. The last call was in May but, to date, I have not had a call from the branch manager. I have, however, continued to receive marketing communications by post.
As well as the apparent misdiagnosis detailed above, my overall impression is that Boots Opticians is a company that prioritises the upselling of expensive treatments and avoids dealing with genuine customer concerns. It also suggests that retraining needs to take place in-branch and within the marketing call centre.
Whilst Boots Opticians in Romsey are still welcome to call me to discuss my concerns, I am fortunate in having a further two opticians to choose from in the town - Specsavers and David White Opticians.

Optometrist, Kelly Allan, was very thorough and re-assuring.
Optician Assistant, Azim, was courteous, efficient, extremely helpful, patient and informative, and very kindly went out of his way to provide great customer service.
My vision with my new glasses and sunglasses is sharp and clear, and both frames are a very comfortable fit.

Excellent service
The patience and expertise of the staff was very welcome. I had badly bent my glasses and they several times tried to fix them. Eventually I resorted to buying new frames so I could be sure of them being fit for purpose. They then took great care fitting the lenses into the new frames and adjusting them to fit.

After going to Boots opticians at Lakeside for both glasses and contact lenses- they decided to send my lenses to a different address no apology no refund on my £36 per month that I have paid for 2 months without lenses.
At the contact lens scheme they said they would send new lenses which would take 2 weeks to arrive- therefore halfway through another month of £36.00 without lenses or refund. Almost £100 for nothing-absolutely disgraceful

Boots in Lymington
I went to Boots in Lymington for an eye test with Luke the optometrist who I have seen before but at the New Milton branch he was very thorough and professional. The other staff Harrison, Brian and Ibeff were very friendly and helpful and even made my husband a cup of coffee while he was waiting for me. I would highly recommend Boots of Lymington.

A fee for forms they don’t tell you about!
I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel this is something other customers should be aware of.
The eye test itself was perfectly fine and exactly what you’d expect. My issue is with the complete lack of transparency around the fee for completing a DSE (Display Screen Equipment) reimbursement form for employers.
Before my appointment, I specifically asked whether they could complete the form, and was simply told yes. At no point was I informed there would be an additional charge. I even searched online beforehand and couldn’t find any mention of this fee anywhere.
It wasn’t until after my eye test—when I asked for the form to be completed—that I was told there would be a charge. By that stage, I’d already had the appointment, so I felt I had no real choice but to pay. The whole point of the DSE scheme is that employers reimburse the cost, but because this fee wasn’t disclosed upfront, the full amount can no longer be claimed back.
When I questioned it, I was told the fee had been in place “for years,” which was surprising because I had the exact same process done last year and wasn’t charged.
This isn’t about the fee itself—it’s about transparency. Had I been told beforehand, I could have made an informed decision. Instead, the information was withheld until it was too late. Very disappointed with how this was handled, and I hope Boots is clearer with future customers.

Worst experience ever! I said to the optician that I would just get the prescription after the test and buy glasses online, to which she didn't recommend. They lured me into the buy one get one free promotion, but didn't tell me about the additional charges (probs their tax loophole) So that all came to £550. Came back 2 week later after the glasses had arrived to glasses I couldn't see out of! Was refused a refund and done another eye-test done and the optician was persistent that I needed that prescription (which was a huge jump from my old one) after telling her I couldn't see or get used to them multiple times, she finally gave in and lowered the prescription. She was sighing when I told her the prescription was not good for me and felt rushed so she could get another customer in. I was lucky to get to exchange the glasses at the managers descretion as I was over the 30 day return period which was only £100 out of the £550 I had payed previously.I had to re-book my appointment (takes them forever to answer the phone also) as the optician was sick so the next time I could get was when I was off-shift to then they tried to say I was out of the return period. I thought would have been free due to the opticians mess up, but was then charged another £350, so the total came to £900 for 2 pair of glasses due to the opticians poor work ethic. Give yourself a tap on the back!
