Tried to change payment date due to new work place . Agent I had spoken to had never had such a request & had to pass me to a different team . Spoke to different agent who advised my mortgage would show as having arrears ? Told them to forget it . Zero customer service.
A shambolic service
A shambolic service. Customer service agents are poorly trained: they lack knowledge of their services and dont take the time to obtain the information needed to give proper advice.

the lady named Pooja that was on the line with me was nothing but kind. I had so many technical difficulties with my app and finding my pin, she was able to graciously help me through talking me through each step. Not only ensuring I understood but made sure and also repeated if I needed any assistance or help throughout 💖

Extremely disappointing experience with Bank of Ireland. We have tried twice to open an account, and my son even visited the bank in person to complete the process, but we still have not received any positive response or proper resolution. The entire process has been frustrating, slow, and unnecessarily difficult. For a student/newcomer trying to settle in Ireland, this kind of service creates a lot of unnecessary stress.
Based on our personal experience, I would strongly recommend exploring other banking options before choosing Bank of Ireland. We expected a much more efficient and responsive service, but unfortunately, our experience has been very poor and disappointing.

Worst customer service experience I've ever had in my life
I contacted Bank of Ireland customer support yesterday to resolve a technical issue regarding a blocked EU card verification on Visa.
The call was I think transferred to an overseas Indian support center where the representative seemed to not really know anything about Irish banking systems or EU verification processes, and kept saying script statements.
After I repeated my issue three times to ensure there was no confusion, the agent seemed to talk to other people there and then hang up on me without any resolution whatsoever.
In the end I manually changed my card on the site to another bank provider to fix it myself and not use BOI.
If that's the level of support for customers being provided going forward, I will definitely not be a BOI customer for very much longer (having been with bank for 30 years). Completely unacceptable from a major Irish bank.

Unbelievably poor communication and customer service. They froze my account and locked me out of the app and online banking. But they didn't bother to tell me. It was only a few days later when I was stuck at the till unable to pay for shopping that I realised there was a problem. When I phoned them I wasted over 40 minutes on the phone to somebody in India who was impossible to understand and who couldn't understand me. They eventually told me my accounts were reset but I'm still locked out days later. I have phoned them again since and been jerked around over and over. I'm still waiting for a call back since yesterday. I've been with them for 25 years but as soon as possible I'll be closing my accounts for good. The incompetence and rock bottom customer service is a disgrace.
Absolutely shocking service
Absolutely shocking service. Spent over 20mins on hold then some non Irish national answers and hangs up straight away. Never had a pleasant experience anytime I rang. Would give a minus review if possible
Terrible online support for business…
Terrible online support for business and personal banking
Stay well clear
I can only echo other reviews: stay well away for business banking. Needed to change the bank mandate; it took them 15 months! Raised 2 complaints along the way. The complaints were upheld but no solutions provided and no resolution of the issue. Eventually fixed when I somehow managed to get the contact of a relationship manager. Their online systems are no better. Payments are painstaking to set up and authorise. You cannot manage your direct debits online (nor see a list of them). Until recently transfers from NI to England took 1 business day (now a few hours). In fact, their whole Business Online system is something of the 1990s. Closing the account is now proving to be another nonsense process where they ask for information they do not need to proceed (by post!), delaying the process. Things that can be done over the phone in 5 minutes with other banks end up taking taking days/weeks with BoI. As lovely as some of the staff might be, it doesn't make up for the incompetence of the organisation as a whole.
Incompetent company
Incompetent company. Every thing they could do wrong in the application process, they did. Not a single email from them, random solicitors office contacts and starts harassing for details my advisor has. Took an unrequested £500 overpayment via direct debit. Managed to produce a massive shortfall on the loan which had to be sorted by my advisor. Applying to their mortgage hub is guarded by an ID check which locks you out for 5 minutes after taking the requested photo. - 1 star service, utter worms.

Bank of Ireland cancelled wrong Direct Debit resulting in payment being debited. Told me I needed to contact DD originator . They initially refunded me then debited me again. I am out of pocket despite it being their mistake, while they " investigate". Absolute shambles all round.
The worst banking experience ever .
The worst banking experience ever .
I actually think that the staff at The Abbeyleix branch don't really want Customers to go there !
As someone who has a business account with this bank I wouldn't have a business if I treated Customers like this !
If any other bank was nearer I would try them !
NOT BE TRUSTED - Probably the worst bank ever!
Bank of Ireland is a bank that cannot be trusted. I had access to my online banking and then suddenly they closed my access pretending that they increased security measures. Of course they kept charging me every month while I couldn’t use any of their services. It’s been a year now. I’ve decided to drop the towel and close my account.
Don’t trust them - they will lie to you and charge you high fees.
Outsourcing customer service to India
If you go in to a Bank of Ireland branch you will more than likely interact with a staff member who has experience of local banking, maybe knows you and is willing to help. If, however, you are unfortunate enough to try to conduct your business by phone it will be extremely difficult to get through to anyone in Ireland, let alone anyone in your branch. Bank of Ireland Customer Service appears to have been outsourced to a centre in India. They are very polite but unwilling to bring your queries and business to a successful conclusion, necessitating a visit to your branch.
Terrible service, avoid like the plague!
Terrible service. I represent a church which has a business account with this crowd, and simply wanted to add some additional signatories due to age & ill-health among the parishioners. Seven weeks later we are no further on. We filled in the 10-page exam paper they supplied, had our passports & driving licences verified by the local branch, sent the originating Vestry minute and also a full year's accounts. All we got was vague boilerplate one-liners by email saying they were working on it. We eventually got fed up and tried to make a complaint. The online complaints form won't accept anything other than letters & spaces - so no punctuation or brackets or numbers (yes a BANK's complaints form doesn't allow you to type NUMBERS!!). So I sent an email; they responded asking for our sort code & account number & address which we supplied last week. Still nothing. It beggars belief that these people are still in business, I'm not sure what sort of mental processes happen in the heads of the senior managers of this bank or if they ever actually read here what their users think of them but it's doubtful; this page makes it clear they have a terrible - and well-deserved - reputation. Customer service, communications and efficiency are all appalling. We will inevitably have to go through the pain of moving our accounts to a functioning bank at some point, but it'll be worth it in the end! If you're looking for a business account please don't go here; there are other banks out there that actually work. 👎
No money
I was in a difficult position with stolen identification , phones and I had cancelled my cards. Bank of Ireland Naas allowed me access to my account. Thank you

I was in line waiting at counter in loughrea branch, there was 2 cashiers open, when 1 customer was finished I stepped up to the counter to be served and when I got to the counter the cashier pulled the blind down, no excuse me or sorry I'm closed etc.....
Very rude....
Well done Louise …
Review based on staff member Louise who dealt with my customer service face to face enquiry today in Mullingar. Great lady. Easy to work with. Did her best to sort my problem. And took things further than other staff have managed over a few years at this point. I use the online banking as opposed to their app. I can only access my most recent statement despite all the dates being listed. It's been frustrating. While the issue is not fixed, I felt listened to and got a step further in sorting this. Unfortunately there is a huge wait time to get served at customer service and sometimes staff can be a bit off. Delighted to commend Louise today.
Joan Gaffney is the Best
Joan Gaffney working in the BOI In Carlow went amazingly out of her way to solve my problem for me today. Best customer service I have experienced in a long while!

We were having a problem with our PSK keypad and accessing the account. We met Ben in the Rathfarnham Shopping Centre branch and within about 20 minutes he had sorted out the issues. He was so helpful and understanding and really pleasant to deal with. The best customer service we have received in a long time.
