50p to get into this sh...hole !!! 😜
My partner called in this toilet Saturday, 50p to get into this filthy disgusting sh...hole!! On Silver street York !! She is 87 yrs old and she started panicking and shouting for help as the door would not open eventually someone managed to get her out which was an ordeal men and women sharing the sinks! Half the sinks were out of order! How are the council getting away with it!! They should be ashamed of themselves!! Keep well away from these horrible so called toilets!
Visit to york
We were on a two week holiday in Yorkshire and planned a day in York to take in the minster, castle river and museum among other attractions. We arrived and the roads were very busy and we tried to find a car park near the castle , no available spaces after driving around so moved to another car park, same again and we kept getting forced into various traffic situations all without being able to park . Eventually we decided to just get out of the city as far away as possible disappointed at after traveling 350 miles from home to visit York we didn't get to see it. To add salt to the wound after returning home we received a fine ,£70 for apparently going into a bus lane which I was totally unaware of . We will never be back in Yorkshire.
What can you say about York Council
What can you say about York Council? You could start by their sheer incompetence when I comes to IT and being forced to use web services that don't work, or maybe the huge waiting time to get them to respond to an email, or maybe their inability to manage the budget correctly and have more potholes than many any other citiy of it's size. York is a lovely place, but York council are the worst I've experienced. The majority of those who work there need removing immediately, as they're clearly all jobsworths and add very little value.
No phone or internet signal. Be warned
In the city centre there is little to no phone signal or internet it’s like being in the Stone Age, the Christmas market was ok and that’s it. Let’s hope if you visit York city centre you don’t need the emergency services because you don’t have a signal.
Why does it cost £50 to park your car…
Why does it cost £50 to park your car for 24 hours honestly it's a joke!
Attentive service and excellent food
The manager Surak was very friendly and knowledgeable. Service was excellent and they were happy to add less chilli to my starter. Rice was cooked to perfection. Friendly ambience. Good for vegetarians ( I am one)
I leave a review with Trustpilot as…
I leave a review with Trustpilot as Client Affairs from York Council have only needed to be involved with me very recently.
The utility bills for the place flat moved into a few Weeks ago get paid with payments from DWP UC and part DWP DLA.
£75 of these payments are placed on an EML card each Monday this is quite a new thing to get used to.
A pin was issued to use with EML but what part of birth date the first part the end part.
Had no additional numbers from Client Affairs to get they pin report lost stolen cards.
The correct used pin was used when exceeded pins message was on they ATM screen it got blocked did not hang on the call unblocked should pin try again but still exceed.
New Pin issued to type in machine but was not great either got amount on screen but pressed £10.00 got a receipt and card returned.
Client Affairs though contacting them had said unblocked stayed on the call but told any lady staff member that they ATM machine still maintains exceeded pins on they screen.
The EML card was used in Nationwide when many pins typed in correctly were exceeded or declined

Pepperells have only been in York for a year and are amazed at how clean York City Centre stays! The team love going for walks around the city centre on their dinner break. 5 Stars from Team Pepps

The wife and myself often visit York three times a year I go to the camera shop spent a few thousand pounds on lenses, We travel from Newcastle by train and always stop of for fish and chips and peas and tea at Drakes you always go out full. We want into Drakes looking forward to our fish and chips peas
Fish was excellent peas again excellent But the chips tasted like frozen chips this was a big let down.
I now have to think about going back to Drakes.
Great for a short trip
Lovely city with plenty to do but wouldn’t spend more than a weekend there as a tourist.
Bought a Doner Kabab Thursday evening
Bought a Doner Kabab Thursday evening, but received something truly terrible 0 Lamb just hourse meat meat chicken cheap beef and mutton, 2 mouth fulls and straight in the bins, got a Labrador and wouldn't be so cruel to give it to him, never had a take out so bad in my life, called the but go mugged off and wouldn't replace it so nor the reviews start, 15 years working as a Microsoft professional, this won't go on for weeks but months and years, won't have my money stolen from me, fell sick for days, already contacted the council health and safety inspection, get ready to file for bankruptcy, there is 2 times of people in life talkers and dowers, I'm not a talker, all you had to do is replace it
Seating shortage.
Just come back from a short break in the beautiful city of York, but one thing stands out the shortage of seats in the centre.Today the weather was gorgeous but nowhere to sit and enjoy it,got to be one of the poorest city centres.
Disappointed and felt ripped off in York
Drove to York this morning arrived at around 10.20. We had our concession bus passes but still had to pay a partial fare. What a rip off, most cities with park and ride charge up to 09.30 (which I can understand) and after that it is free concession. There are no signs in the car park that explain these charges that I could see!!
So caught the bus in walked through the city centre and eventually headed towards the national railway museum. There are many public works around the area but no obvious sign directing people to where they need to be. We asked two policemen, a warden, and finally a railway employee before we finally found the diversion that was in place.
When we finally arrived there we ushered towards a desk where we were told it is free to enter but a donation is welcome. Let me say we donated but it is not worth it, there are a few trains and carriages there, and another exhibition which was £12 per head to get into.
My advice is is you want to see trains and some history Hopetown in Darlington is a good experience and is free, and the Shilden Railway museum is a better experience than York is.
What totally ruins this place
What totally ruins this place, is the lack of public toilets. This must come at a cost of traders. We walked around endlessly looking for one. In the end we went home early.
It's a hugely popular place with tourists and the lack of public toilets is a real negative on the city. Id happily pain a small fee to use one to help cover costs etc.
York is a beautiful city full of…
York is a beautiful city full of fabulous architecture and packed full with history
We spent 5 days there. There was always something to do yorkminster was stunning, the grand Opera house was entertaining and there was some beautiful walking up the river and the shambles. Would highly recommend.
York City Council Name and Shame-Not fit for Purpose!
I feel, York City Council maybe one of the worse council's in the UK! Apart from Birmingham City Council.
There are a high number of hate crimes in York. Council tenants have to sign a mandatory tenant agreement. WE "the tenants" are contractually bound not to behave in an anti social manner, at least not with malicious intent. Factors like mental/physical health maybe taken into consideration.
Nobody ever gets back to me, especially when I ring for repairs or report any anti social behaviour by neighbours, mainly: racism, violence, and drugs.
Even a York Council employee racially profiled me in the past. When I complained, it was buried.
Nor is there a permanent HMO in my area anymore. They either leave or get themselves transferred to other depts. I find this extremely frustrating.
I am beginning to feel, there is no rule of law in my area, and no consequences for those tenants who regularly flout the law and their tenancy agreement.
There are some staff who don't even know their own departmental policies.
I had a telephone conversation with such an employee (parking enforcement dept) a few years ago. His advice, I felt, was incorrect. When I asked for a copy of our conversation, he denied me!
This is unlawful under the Data Protection Act 2018 (RE- Subject Access Request - SAR). Unless it is one of the exemptive rules under this legislation, he cannot deny me a transcript of our conversion.
To make matters worse, HMOs do not record mobile phone conversations with tenants. I find this very concerning, particularly when there are vulnerable tenants, like myself. I experienced one such HMO. Her total lack of professionalism still leaves me with PTSD. Again, when I complained, it was buried.
It is beggars believe how some staff are totally inept at their jobs. This makes me question, "is nepotism at play here?"
It's coming to the point where litigation is the only way forward for me. I do not want to sue them and refrained thus far. Mainly because they are struggling for cash. However, I am not prepared to live in fear from these racist and potentially violent thugs, who cannot even string a sentence together!
Nor, I am I prepared to put up with the lack of necessary repairs which, are necessary for my mental and physical well being. I am sick of ringing their repairs dept.
Even their complaint procedure is not fit for purpose. Tenants are given only 10 minutes to make a complaint before the web page times out.
York City Council haven't factored in that some tenants may have health issues that may. render them incapable of filing an electronic complaint form within this 10 minutes cut off period.
There is a strong possibility York City Council could be in breach of The Equality Act 2010.
So much history to enjoy
So much history to enjoy. We loved it here But...the smell of sewage in the air is revolting and DON'T use the public toilets in Silver Street. They are disgusting and you have to pay 40p each for the dubious privilege!! I used the disabled toilet next door using a Radar key and was surprised to find the area tidy and passable clean but on reaching the toilet I was disgusted at the filthy state of it. I told the man attendant who was standing around on his phone and he said he was just about to clean it but I was outside for another 15 minutes and he just carried on using his phone and then disappeared inside. My partner said the men's was disgusting and I heard other users of both men's and women's toilets talking about the filthy state of it. Otherwise York was a very friendly place, buzzing with life. Use the park and ride, it's cheap, regular and easy to use.
My first but definitely not last trip
My first but definitely not last trip to York. Wow steeped in history the minster is beautiful worth going just to see it,plenty of cafes and restaurants, easy to get around on my disabled scooter luckily not too busy. Did have a few close encounters with people on mobiles totally oblivious to their surroundings, every place has them even in the village I live in !: aside from that I highly recommend bettys and the Yorkshire roast ,their beef dinner in a wrap is to die for it's huge.definitely recommend a visit.
Woah - left high and dry by City Sightseeing
Woah. Yesterday our family travelled to York (UK) for a day trip, and planned using City Sightseeing "hop on, hop off" bus tour to see the city (we have used such a service in other cities successfully). The advert indicated 15 minutely bus departures, but being June they explained (after we'd purchased the ticket) the departures would be 30 minutely. After lunch, without notification, the service suddenly stopped, leaving us with two children and several other customers stranded at their bus stop. There was a sign with schedule at the stop indicating rides should continue for several more hours. After a long wait we paid for travel back to the train station, missing several of the sights we planned to see. Hopeless!
