First rate service from YBS
I was very pleased with the first rate service I received from Helen in particular at the Malton branch whilst opening an ISA for my 90 year old mother using P.O.A.
Despite not having an appointment I was provided with the documentation to complete at the time so speeding up the process.
I phoned the YBS head office yesterday & despite being cut off once my call connected to a diligent employee called Chelsea who phoned me back to save me going through the system again. Chelsea contacted two different departments to confirm the progress of both ISA’s.
I was fully updated today by Chelsea of the progress of both accounts. What a fabulous service!
Well done YBS for having such conscientious & diligent staff 👏👏
FTB? Mortgage for Flat - AVOID.
I applied for a mortgage online after submitting a decision in principle. The online process I found really simple and stress free. The issues started when I finished the application and waited for a response.
I am a first time buyer, buying a flat on my own, my friend recommended YBS as she had used them for years and stated they were great.
The communication from YBS was absolutely shocking, to begin with I would get lengthy emails with signatures at the end, as the process went on, I would get a sentence back. No "Hello" or signing it off with a name, just a sentence.
I had enough for a 85% LTV but was told I would have to pick a 90% product, I argued this for about a week before giving in and agreeing. When it came to picking a product the link they sent me stated I was in fact at 85%?!
Nothing made any sense with them, I had friends reading every email on my behalf to ensure I wasn't the crazy one.
In the end I have said just close the application and I will go elsewhere, I now have an appointment with another bank next week which was all sorted in one day. They have already been way more helpful than YBS and that is through TWO emails not Twenty.

The member of staff was very helpful and patient when I realised I was missing paperwork to open an Isa. I was able to return home to collect the paperwork and return to the office to complete the paperwork.
Branch experience in Edinburgh
It was nice to deal with a real person in your branch rather than doing things online or over the phone. The staff were efficient and helpful, while remaining impartial.

There was a problem setting up my online account, partly caused by another bank, which was resolved very effectively.
