My illegal stay naturalisation application has been granted. I have used Mr Hassan for my case many many years ago and because of him I got indefinite leave to remain. I never bothered applying for British passport naturalisation. But I decided to apply at the end. I didn't seek any legal advice and I applied for naturalisation my self. To my shock, the home office sent me letter saying that for 10 years before my application I was an illegal person with no visa. This was true but I didn't know that this will be an issue with the home office and how to respond to it. My friend told me that my application will be refused as his solicitor said the same thing about 10 years good person rule. I am an American living in the UK with my British-born Spouse and three children, but required a switch from my work-visa to ensure I could remain in the UK beyond its expiry date. My chief concern was any mistake on my application and that leading to challenges in receiving a successful decision.

My visit Visa was refused and I lodged a judicial review application to challenge the refusal with the help of Mr waleed Hassan. The judicial review was successful and the entry clearance officer agreed to reconsider my case as they accepted that they did not consider all my case properly. Our issue? How to enable our long-term, long-distance relationship to move, with our son, to the UK. We had lots of advice from friends of friends who had faced something similar but none exactly the same – countries, religion, child custody etc. We also received contacts for legal advisors or ‘do-it-yourself’ approaches, but we wanted someone who we could speak to face-to-face and to avoid the uncertainty of picking our own way through the regulations and bureaucracy.
WH Solicitors were one of a number who appeared on a web search of the area, but we were particularly attracted because of their focus on immigration issues. This was confirmed by a brief phone conversation followed by a conference. It was immediately apparent that they knew what they were talking about – listening to our situation, asking pertinent questions and then outlining several routes we could consider.
After due consideration and further discussions, we selected an approach which suited our circumstances taking into account timings, availability to travel and legal background. Once agreed, WH Solicitors provided checklists of evidence required, pro forma for references etc together with details of the fees and timescales for applications.
