WellCare is a nightmare with false information
I had CIGNA. I was told by my healthcare agent that there were two other plans that were better and less costly and one was WellCare. Before I went with them, I made sure they covered all my medication’s. It turns out the information they gave me was completely false and all my medication’s are twice as much as they were with CIGNA. I want out. It’s been a nightmare and I’m not saving money. I’m paying a lot more money.
Bureaucratic Failure: A Dishonor to American Values and the Flag
My experience with Wellcare has revealed a fundamental failure in both product design and corporate ethics. The organization relies on a convoluted, mandatory appeal cycle that effectively offloads its internal administrative burdens onto the customer.
Requiring a beneficiary to navigate high-friction bureaucratic hurdles just to receive promised services is not merely a technical oversight—it is an affront to the consumer. I firmly believe that if a product is structurally sound, it should not require a 'remodeling team' of appeals to be functional. As a professional who prioritizes integrity and functional design, I find Wellcare’s reliance on systemic friction over customer satisfaction to be unacceptable. I have officially halted all engagement with this process, as I refuse to support business models that weaponize bureaucracy against the very people they are meant to serve.
I have given Customer Service a number…
I have given Customer Service a number of opportunities to actually perform. They have failed at every chance. The agent could speak very little english. They had no idea of the plans coverage. They even told me that my converage wasnt going to change. It did a great deal. Trying to sign into your account is as crazy as it gets. Cant sign into an app, the site or get use the automated system on thier phone line. ex. had to enter my d.o.b 3 times for it to recognize me as a member. Really sad. I am sure this go around will be the last time with this company. I expect they will be denied by the Medicare and Medicaid to offer plan D. very soon.
It's A Fraud To Pull You In
I just started the Wellcare Advantage plan with the spendables card in January. I was so happy about the card. Wellcare agents will outright lie to get you to sign up.
They will tell you that you can use the Spendables card to get-----------
Healthy fruits and vegetables, fresh meat
You can buy gas for you car
You can use the card to help with rent, utilities and even internet
I can't even remember what else I could use this "magical" card for. But it's lies UNLESS you have some chronic illness (like cancer), are not expected to live long, I think being in a nursing home qualifies you.
In reality you ONLY get OTC items and you DON'T get a list of what you can get. You have to use the Spendables app to scan the items you'd like to get to see IF they qualify. And, guess what the app won't even open a lot of the time, freezes or keeps taking you back to sign in. And, if you can get it to work probably 90% of the items you scan do not qualify!
Wellcare has one of the highest OTC amounts I saw. But, they could give you $1,000 a month OTC and it's not going to help you if you can't use it.
The only reason Wellcare offers a good OTC amount is because they know there aren't enough eligible items for you to spend your Spendable balance.
If I had found Trust Pilot before I signed up for Wellcare's "DISADVANTAGE" plan, I'd moved on and kept looking.
Overcharge for generic drugs
Signed up for a zero premium PDP option for prescription drug coverage. This year (2026) they raised the rate to $8.20/ month. Not awful but also not necessary. On top of that, they moved one generic drug from Tier 2 to tier 4 increasing the cost from $0 to $32.00. This particular drug is generic and produced by more than 15 companies in the US. The listed wholesale price is between .10-.50 cents per tablet. They didn't move the drug for clinical resins or acquisition cost resins. They clearly moved some drugs to a higher cost to satisfy their balance sheet. Reprehensible behavior. We will be switching plans at next open season.
I only have them for prescriptions
I only signed up with their prescription plan for the savings. I only take 2 very cheap prescriptions. However they deduct my premium automatically from my bank account and yet keep sending me notices of non payment.
Their absolutely horrid AI phone system keeps giving me different amounts and hangs up. I have never encountered such amateurish Ai. It lacks simple voice recognition.
After speaking to 5 reps no one could give me an actual amount so I simply paid what I thought I owed. My card is from 2023 and no new ones ever arrive. With the few medications I take I am just going to use one of the pharmacy discounts that now exist. I will let my subscription with them run out in April.
As someone else pointed out the reps can barely speak English and their reading comprehension of it is even more abysmal.
Wellcare is a scam
Wellcare is a scam! They will entice you to switch to them by telling you that you will get a spendables card with 180.00 added to it every month to buy groceries, gas, pay utilities and to spend pretty much however you want, THIS IS JUST A BIG LIE, They do send you a card but it will only buy what they like call over the counter items, You pick up groceries off of a counter and you lay them on a counter to pay for them but according to Wellcare they are not over the counter items, according to Wellcare in order for your spendables card to buy groceries and the other stuff they claim upfront that you can buy with you must have 2 series illnesses verified by a doctor but they have covered their bases on this also because in the beginning they have you fill out a medical questionair and if they find out that you have any type of illness then your application is denied! So like I said in the beginning WELLCARE IS NOTHING BUT A SCAM
Stay away from Wellcare
I just started using them as a drug coverage for Medicare. January I had a small problem getting a prescription filled but they fixed it in 30 minutes. Now it is February and I had to file a complaint with Medicare for the same medicine. Wellcare decided they wanted me to do a 7 day step up for the meds then start the 30 day supply with a pre-approval first. They are the worst I have ever dealt with. RUN AS FAR AS YOU CAN FROM THEM. THEY DONT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING.
They denied coverage on three different…
They denied coverage on three different inhalers. I called to find out why and could not get an answer. Just a s*** show. Avoid
The worst insurance company
The worst insurance company I have ever dealt with. Their website is terrible. I will not be using them next year.
Previous card was easy to pay bills
Previous card was easy to pay bills, gas, shopping.
The new card - you can buy headache only.
This is the worst group I have ever…
This is the worst group I have ever dealt with in my life. Today is January 23, 2025. I have yet to receive my first prescription. They have called me about every prescription. My doctor has put in. They ran me out of alprazolam which can put you into a seizure. And they still wanted to talk to my doctor as to why he prescribed what he did. Everything I do they hassle me. It takes 4 to 5 phone calls and I’ve yet to get a prescription. I had Aetna Silverscript before this insurance company talked me into switching I will go back to them as soon as I can as of now I’m quitting well care and paying cash through good RX. Just try it. All well here has is AI people who transfer you to one place to next can’t get a hold of them and they could care less if you run out of medicine I’m so disappointed in my insurance agent and this company I can’t believe represents our Medicare terrible and the people who represent them terrible
Wellcare spendables
I haven't used the health insurance yet but I have questions about the spendables card. I've called twice and I think I was given the wrong information the first time bc I'm apparently not eligible for the food and gas benefit. The second time I called I was told to scan an item at the store to see if it's covered. The website doesn't give enough information to understand what is and is not covered and why. The first woman I spoke to said she was going to send me a catalog, but I think she was under the assumption I qualified for the food benefit, so if the catalog doesn't explain that, it will not do me any good. I'm still confused.
This company is about as greedy as they…
This company is about as greedy as they come! I'm retired living on a tight fixed income of social security. I've used up all my savings in this tough economic times. I depend on my cost of living adjustment each year with S.S. And this greedy company took my entire cost of living adjustment for 2026. And actually took an extra $4 per month out of my S.S. I'm now making less that I did in 2025. Unexceptionable!!!
Website gives wrong personalized information on medication cost
The Wellcare site using my login quotes an estimate for a medication at the preferred pharmacy for $238. The preferred pharmacy submits the medication and is told to charge me $700.11. I called the Wellcare phone number on back of membership card and was transferred 5 times to a pharmacy supervisor who tells me the $700.11 is correct and the $238 on the website is wrong. She does apologize for the mistaken information given to me on their website and does not have a reason for the incorrect information.
Worst customer service ever
This company just provided one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. I received a letter informing me that a medication requested by my doctor was not on their formulary, and to contact them regarding alternatives. The Wellcare agent I spoke with completely unintelligible, and was not able to provide any answers to even my most basic questions. I wish I had checked Trustpilot prior to choosing Wellcare, since it seems I'm having the same experience as many other reviewers here.
WellCare is no Care for its customers.
I'll start off by saying, If I could change my insurance at this point I would! My reasoning has to do with customer service (WellCare). I have contacted customer service over the past couple of years regarding my PCP.
insurance
I've been a member of WellCare, I believe since 2020, when I initially signed up for WellCare, I input my PCP as the one I had prior to my retirement to Medicare through SSA. I've spoken with a supervisor in customer service over the past couple of years trying to correct the person which they (WellCare) have on my insurance card. The last time I spoke to customer service supervisor, she stated after some time on the phone about an hour, that she had finally gotten everything straightened out and that I would be receiving updated ID cards shortly. That had to have been over three (3) months ago and my account is still showing the same WRONG PCP and still no updated ID cards. The last time I spoke with this supervisor was during the last open enrollment period last year in October 2025. WellCare has access to my commutations with this so-called supervisor to validate our conversation if needed. If I'm in need of my PCP for any emergency, they would not know who to get a hold of, this is unacceptable and I will be updating my coverage with someone else next enrollment period. "No professionalism at all", WellCare is no Care for its customers.
This Medicare provider company doesn't care about their customers…
This Medicare provider company doesn't care at all about it's customers unless they are able to convince customers to get numerous unnecessary invasive medical procedures that they try to force on them. Customer service representatives say that they are going to help, but never get anything accomplished on their end. They leave customers in limbo for weeks at a time and all you will ever get when they know they're in the wrong is a very simply written letter of apology that does absolutely nothing to resolve any issues. They cannot be trusted. Their word means nothing when it's totally fake and they never try to resolve any issues in a timely manner. I've called them over half a dozen times to get my issue resolved and nothing ever gets resolved. They are useless!!!
PREMIUM INCREASE
AS A SUBSCRIBER I JUST RECEIVED A PACKET FOR MY RATE INCREASE.THE LETTER IS 1/4 OF A PAGE FOLLOWED BY 4 PAGES LISTING EVERY OTHER LANGUAGE ON THE PLANET.IT IS NO WONDER THEY HAVE TO INCREASE PREMIUM'S ON ENGLISH SPEAKING POLICY HOLDERS
I've been trying for over 2 weeks and…
I've been trying for over 2 weeks and have spoken with 5 different people to help me get my online access to my Wellcare.com account and Spendables account. When we finally tried to place a Spendables order with a representative, they didn't even have the over-the-counter medical supply items I needed, so I'm going to have to find a way to pay for them myself with all that money in the Spendables account that I can't even access. The Spendables account is the only reason I signed up for Wellcare in the first place and can't access it. And although, it has been corrected, they even initially assigned a PCP 100's miles away. The IT "ticket" could take 2 weeks to be filled. I tried to get an IT ticket 2 weeks ago, and the rep didn't fill in all the information correctly, so now it will end up being a month total before the online access problem is solved. Wellcare also inundates with sales calls so frequently that it's almost harassment. While I'm stuck with Wellcare for now, I wouldn't recommend them. The last person I spoke to did not care. I'll just throw that one in, but the others were very nice, but simply couldn't fix my problem.
