Absolutely appalled. Been a long standing customer with the book people and I'm usually very pleased, however I placed on order on the 3rd of march and only received one book from it. I phoned them once in April and once today only to be told they couldn't really help, and could only assure me they are trying there best to fufil orders. The lady I spoke to in April was lovely and told me it should be with in the next 2 weeks, so after hearing or receiving nothing I phoned today only to have the man be unhelpful and hang up on me.Considering other companys are still running with minor delays during covid-19 I don't see that as an excuse for poor business. I'm fuming and disgusted with how they are treating customers, I will be giving them a few more days before asking for a refund.

I ordered on the 2nd of March and was told it could take 4 weeks to delivery which was fine, I emailed them after 5 weeks as I hadn't recieved anything, no response, tried calling but couldn't get through, emailed again after 7 weeks, and still nothing, I have now opened a case with paypal as no response to my emails and no refund. If you paid through paypal I would recommend requesting a refund whilst you still can!

Not just me then....order placed 9th March, money taken immediately from PayPal. Emails ignored, phone rings and rings (ring tone sounds like it’s abroad??) I realise they have gone into administration, but they shouldn’t have taken orders they don’t intend to send....or at least only take payment if you’re lucky enough to get what you ordered. Love the way that you can’t access your account with them too?! That to me is very wrong. Reading some of the other reviews gives me a teeny glimmer of hope that my order will arrive....£22 lost I fear tho :(

Placed an order on 1st March. Still not received. All emails remain unanswered but I eventually got through on the telephone to a lovely lady who assured me my order would be with me soon (2 weeks ago) I read they’ve collapsed but are honouring all orders so I’m hoping I will still receive it given they took my money. To the people who have received theirs-did they tell you when it shipped or did it simply turn up unannounced?

It doesn’t seem to be order date that can show any relevance to how orders are dispatched.
It’s the clearance items with really amazing discount that are in the deepest depth of a wonderful long serving Building, clearing such a magnitude of stock on a skeleton capacity in a Pandemic is so commendable and I choose to show my appreciation by waiting.
Let’s find some more Kindness,
the clearance prices we paid for such treasured treats is for a reason!

Book People took my payment straight away, 6 weeks ago. I have emailed them as per the instruction on their website, have been ignored both times! I have tried again today, so I will wait a few days to see what happens.
I suspect that I have lost my money. Very poor!

Update.....

I have now received 3 out of 4 boxes of my books. Did not get a dispatch email. Books just appeared and no tracking number for last box to see when due. Two of my items have been cancelled as out of stock.

Spoke to a lady on the phone this morning and she said that all orders are being fulfilled before the warehouse is closed and could take another three weeks. Placed this large order on 1st March when it said up to 14 days delivery. Disappointed in the length of time to wait on books but still hopeful that these will arrive.

Please refer to the previous email as Naz Ali’s experience is exactly the same as mine, even down to the date of order. It is very frustrating to read in these reviews that people who placed orders much later than I did have already received their goods. I totally agree with Naz that it is completely unacceptable and tantamount to theft - the money for this order was taken immediately from my account. Surely, it should only have been taken on despatch. I am prepared to wait for my goods but it would be good to know that they are actually going to arrive - my last communication with the Book People was their confirmation email on 4/3/20. What a disappointing end to a long relationship with this company.

Useless company . Liars , they told me I had been credited a refund, which they hadn't . Have contacted paypal about this as I don't deal with liars. Waited over 5 weeks for some items and then they now tell me they aren't available .I have since found out they are in administration and still taking peoples money .Steer clear of these these liars .

I ordered £30 worth of books on 10th March and finally received them today. Nothing missing and all in perfect condition. Was a long wait but I am grateful for the cheap books.

Ordered books on 13th March as hadn’t realised they were closing and tbf the books etc arrived yesterday. so although a long wait, they have obviously worked hard to honour the order and I’m very grateful thanks.

Placed order on the 4th March and I still have not received. I have emailed customer services three times and have had zero communication from them. It was an order totalling around £35 , which they have taken. I'm not sure if I will ever get my order or money back :(

So sad to see all these negative reviews! Just received my absolute bargain books 8 weeks after ordering. Everything I ordered received. I too was worrying a bit and a bit disappointed the delivery took longer than the four weeks stated originally but I had patience as obviously corona virus has slowed everything down so a company that was already selling off its stock after going into administration was obviously going to be slower still! The few employees left who were already under immense pressure from the mass of orders from the closing down sale and the company going into administration has now also got the pressure of risking health and having to social distance trying to fulfil all the orders placed must be really hard! Please have patience and hold out I believe your orders should be with you soon. Sorry if any one bought for occasions and missed but you can always put them away for Christmas gifts!!! A long standing reputable company and very sad to see it go!

Order arrived after 2 months. One item out of stock and no refund recieved. Another item missing from order. Lack of responses from the book people, so have opened a case with PayPal.

Placed an order 6th March and it arrived in full today.
It appears that they are still fulfilling orders, but they are taking around 8 weeks from order date to arrive.
I have another order outstanding from 23rd March that I assume will be another couple of weeks, fingers crossed!

Edited to add my second order arrived in full today 26th May (9 weeks from order date).

Ordered on 9th March, and I haven't got anything yet. Tried to contact but got no where.
I ordered when it was 4 weeks delivery and not its 7 weeks but already gone past that. I did have presents in it.
I keep looking at this site and I'm worried that the warehouse will be shut before I get my things. I don't know how they can process orders out of order. Surely the earlier orders should be processed first? I can see some people who ordered 2 weeks after me already have their orders.
Such a shame when they have always worked so well.

Ordered 29th Feb. Still waiting. Written 3 emails. Not happy.

Ordered on the 2nd of March and still have not received my order, and no sign of dispatch. I have sent two emails and have received no replies.

I placed an order 8 weeks ago on the 29th February so I was losing hope that I’d ever get my books to be honest, so much so that I raised a dispute with PayPal, ready to try to get a refund as I’d not had any reply back from customer services in response to my emails either. But, to my surprise I had a dispatch confirmation 2 days ago and an update from Hermes yesterday to say my order was on its way! I am pleased to report that I had 2 parcels delivered today with all the books there!! You've made our children so happy, it was like Christmas in our house today! So I just wanted to do this review to thank Thebookpeople for keeping to their word even in these extremely difficult times & doing their best to fulfil orders as quickly possible, thank you so much for all the lovely books myself & my family have enjoyed over many years from you, you will be greatly missed.

still not received My order. Quick enough to take the money but not deliver the goods.
I can see why these have gone into administration now.
Bad customer service. They don't answer emails.
