As a director of several companies over many years ranging from small businesses to national organisations in different jurisdictions I have instructed many firms over the years. Dealing at partner level is a necessity for me and ensuring that partner advice is accessible, consistent and correct is a must. I have always found that with this firm and would recommend.

Over the course of the year we instructed Summerfield Browne there were 2 personnel changes. Therefore 3 different solicitors dealt with our case. when we complained about this they took no responsibility for their retention of staff.

Although we won our case we only recovered a fraction of the fees we had paid to the firm because the judge criticised the way they had set out their charging and the level of charging. There was no itemisation provided to the court, nor did they use a N260 form, or provide description of how they calculated their charges. Upon complaint they have provided details of their charges and the fact they had advised us that not all charges a normally recovered. They admit that the judge 'made a mountain' (their words) about the cost assessment but insist that they did not need to itemize their charges. The court stated differently.

We are at a deficit of many thousands of pounds despite a court ruling in our favour. Summerfield Browne take no responsibility and say that we were advised to make a Part 36 offer to protect ourselves on the costs position. In fact the solicitor did not advise this. He agreed that a part 36 agreement was not achievable because the offer from the other side was so low.

Professional service. I was assigned to a single person who followed my case from the beginning to the end; and she helped me to get what I wanted at the end in a very professional way. All communications were done through emails. This is a big plus to someone like me who is not living in the U.K. The only reason why I do not give a 5 star is because of a slight delay as she was busy handling some other cases in the middle of the process.
