Does not come me across as a serious company. Perhaps overwhelmed by online volume and if so should stick to being a local area supplier. The order I placed, while accepted, was never delivered, and a progress update query sent after several weeks, went unanswered. Looking at the site today, 2 months later, shows Out of Stock, but that was not the case when the order was placed. Seemed like some good prices at the time and as a first-time user I was hoping to become a repeat customer, but I guess you get what you pay for.

Wines ordered 24 Dec, arrived 5 Jan. Packaged well, delivered by DHL. It took a nudge by email (which was answered promptly) to check on order progress, but allowance made for non-working days over Christmas/New Year means a satisfactory customer service experience. Best price for a favourite Italian white wine, so will likely use SWD again. Thanks!

If I could give minus I would ordered online 19th dec took money from account,never recieved confirmation email,phoned numerous times unable to get hold of them

Bought an expensive whiskey which arrived in a damaged box which I had to give as a gift. Tried to contact an unhelpful customer support who tried to tell me I was lucky to receive the whiskey box in the first place as they could have just sent the bottle - not great when your buying an expensive whiskey!! Would have expected at least a refund on the delivery. Won't use these guys again.

Is this the same company that some people have only given 1* ??

Exemplary service with notifications at every stage & DHL delivery, all within 48 hours. The Jean-Marc Burgaud Morgon Les Charmes is super, as is the rock bottom price.

I will certainly use them again.

I ordered a case of rum online, and delivery was quick and efficient. Amazing protective 'airsac' plastic packaging – bottles all snug and no damage or breakages. All packed neatly in a cardboard box.
Shame to throw away the plastic packaging, so it's in the post – in perfect nick, so hope it can be reused!

Order was never dispatched. No communication and despite my e-mails trying to find out the status of my order. Heed others advice and avoid at all cost.

I love going to the shop as its nearby and is like an Aladdin's cave in terms of the range and variety of alcohol stocked!! I have found the owner to be extremely knowledgeable and helpful. The prices for the specific alcohols I was looking were also the most competitive I could find. The only downside is the shop is sometimes not open when you expect it to be - so found it best to first call to confirm.

Possibly the worst customer service I've experienced, certainly in the wine industry. Cancelled order after being told the particular vintage was now no longer available and there had now been a "price hike" (their words) - I had to chase as they didn't otherwise contact me. Reality was they'd mispriced the wine in the sale and wanted to extract themselves from the transaction. Series of rude emails followed with no sense of customer service. FWIW, this is also a dormant company (non-trading) so really not sure which entity you contract with. When challenged, the response was "whatever". Suggest you avoid at all costs.

Ordered a specific wine from South Africa and an Irish Whiskey on the Sunday. Received the order on Tuesday. Very good updates on the delivery tracking.

Two negative experiences, else this would have been a 5 star review.

1. The online experience claims there is a "live chat" there isn't. I had a transaction that went off my account and then there was an "error" on the site that said the order didn't go through. I could not resolve this through the "live chat' that doesn't exists.

2. The wine was not the year that was advertised which was highly rated year, but not the end of the world.

DO NOT USE this company! They delivered to the incorrect address even after acknowledging it. They refuse to acknowledge emails or to resolve issue despite spending a considerable amount of money with them. They have no customer service and do not care about fulfilling their obligations. NOT TO BE TRUSTED!!

Ordered some brandy for my 80th birthday. Ordered on Saturday, delivered the following Tuesday morning. Well packaged and at a very good price. I would say a first class service and would not hesitate to use Simply Wines Direct again.

Do not use! Placed order, got confirmation and then nothing. Transaction never processed. Impossible to contact them. Stay away from this company

Never got my shipping. Tried cotacting customer services several times, they just stopper responding. I would strongly advice choosing a different seller.

I was concerned after reading other reviews, but contacted the company anyway. I managed to get through by phone at the third attempt and thereafter had several email exchanges to confirm that they had the wines I wanted in stock. I arranged a time and picked up the wine cases in person from their shop in Pangbourne. All went pretty smoothly, hence the 4 stars.

I placed an order online for a six bottle case of wine but I didn't receive an acknowlement. My payment was showing on my bank account as pending.

Not knowing if the order had been received, I telephoned several times but each time only got an answer phone. Left a message but never received a call back so, I tried emailing. Again absolutely no response!

Then, about a week later, I received a message to say that my order had been shipped, would be delivered the next working day and the tracking information would be sent.

No tracking information was ever received but, to be fair, I did receive my order on the next working day. Only now have I received a message from Parcel Force to say my order has been delivered.

To me a successful business needs to be more than just providing goods. It also needs to be contactable and keep its customers informed. This certainly didn't happen in this case and because of that I would be reluctant to buy from this company again.

Since ordering and having paid in November for wine for Christmas, and received an email to confirm the order, I’ve had no communication from them at all. No confirmation of order out for delivery, no response to my emails, and no one picks up the phone.

They’ve taken my money, and failed to deliver their service and product. Until I hear otherwise, my assumption is this is either a completely shambolic company or a scam company.

If they do end up responding, I will edit my review.

I ordered from SWD at the end of November, for the first time and before reading any of these reviews. When I did read them I was shocked and got in touch with SWD to cancel my order. They are difficult to get hold of - as others have commented, the live chat function on their website doesn't work at all, and I couldn't find a phone number anywhere which is odd for a company with a physical shop in (IIRC) Berkshire.

I reached them via email and said I wanted to cancel. I had a reply the same day saying that the wines I had ordered were in stock and would be sent on Friday (Parcelforce strikes). I said if that was truly the case, all well and good and no need to cancel.

The wines arrived this morning (Monday) after good communications / updates on Friday from SWD and over the weekend from Parcelforce. They are very well-packaged and exactly as ordered. Perfectly good service and I would happily use SWD again.

Conclusion: Poor not to have live chat as advertised or a phone number to call, but they delivered as promised and I really can't complain. Thanks very much SWD.

I made the order but never received a confirmation email. I felt uneasy about this went online and read these comments and became very alarmed and assumed I'd been scammed. Please to report the wine turned up this morning with parcel force. All as described. I can only speak as I find...but better communication is a must if they want to improve these trust pilot scores!!! Phew...
