I usually go to Park farm surgery and…
I usually go to Park farm surgery and see the same vet who gives excellent treatment but when this vet is not available the treatment is usually very poor. I took my Siamese cat Gracie to Scarsdale pride park vets a couple of weeks ago because no one was available at Scarsdale Park Farm. I felt she needed a broad spectrum antibiotic urgently as she had very bad cystitis. The vet examined Gracie and said it was against the law to give antibiotics without her first having a urine test and she could lose her license. This was not true, which she admitted later to me on the telephone, it was an internal Scarsdale ruling. It took me a further 2 days to get the sample from Gracie, it was then the weekend and bank holiday Monday so the test results could not be done. It took 7 days in all to get antibiotics for poor Gracie. When the vet rang me 6 days later with the results she told me I could pick up a broad based antibiotic and I challenged her about not giving them sooner this is when she admitted it was an internal policy not to give antibiotics before getting the test results. So it took 10 days of antibiotics to get Gracie to eat again. I am still concerned about her that it may have affected her kidneys. Time will tell.
We have been using this vet for about…
We have been using this vet for about 2-3 years and not once felt happy. This time was horrendous. My cat on the floor really stressed out. After an hour we were getting nowhere. The whole thing was a disaster. The vet gave an injection but most of that was on her fur. We won't be going back. As others have said. It's about the money and not any thought about the pet. Never been to a vet this bad before. Stay away from this lot. My cat still very ill but dare not chance it with them.😞😞😰😨
Only care about money, money, money
There are a couple of great individual vets but as a company, Scarsdale only care about money and their policies are geared to getting as much money as possible.
10 minute checkup the dog doesn't need, another £65. Always recommend the most expensive, extortionately priced procedures and medicines with huge markups.
Don't take into account the pet's individual circumstances but by default recommend the most expensive unnecessary procedures and then try and guilt you into it even though you know it's going to be worse for your dog's welfare. Had a second opinion from 2 other vets who disagreed with Scarsdale who would rather us just pay them the most money possible.
Get a 10 minute checkup as part of their expensive pet plan but when they only have a nurse available who needs to call a vet in to look at something, they charge another £65 even though it's usually a vet who sees the dog!
Absolutely everything possible has a charge and it's always a lot more money than other vets. Considerably more expensive than other vets and it feels so money orientated you lose trust in them.
Disappointed & disgusted with Scarsdale PRIDE PARK
My dog had a TPLO at Scarsdale derby Pride Park practice.
She had the same procedure 4 years ago.
This time our experience with them was really negative from start to finish.
I personally would not recommend this practice to anyone.
The miscommunication with the staff is what really let’s them down, a lot of them are not very competent at their jobs. Reception staff (some, not all) are a classic example.
When it came to paying for the TPLO, well that was a joke!
The bill was wrong, phone calls had to be made to Dawn to sort this out, while I’m at reception with a huge queue behind me, they just expect you to hand over your card, pay and go!
I was made to feel like I’m doing something wrong by querying my bill. Not really, when paying over £4,000 NOT INSURANCE, I have every right to know exactly what I’m paying for. It’s called clarifying your bill so you can then pay in full, without any fear you’ve overpaid.
They seemed upset I had found the overcharge. No sorry, no nothing, just scowling faces.
Another time We checked in to reception, or so we thought & we are waiting and waiting & finally get a phonecall asking where are we?
They hadn’t checked us in. So we were then classed as being late for the appointment & absent.
Great reception work, & again eye rolling and whispering about us
Next my dog returned for stitch removal, I handed her over in good faith that the staff would remove the stitches, got home & 2 days later I find a large metal staple still left very visibly in my dogs stomach. (She had a wart removed) alongside the TPLO.
This was before Xmas and to drive another 50 mile round trip back to Pride to get it removed, was out of the question!
Their error, their fault!
I then had to ring around multiple vets near my home to get the staple removed, which a few days before Xmas was very difficult.
They needed all of her history sending over etc before they would take the staple out. It took me all of Saturday to sort this out.
I insisted Scarsdale pay for this.
Why should I pay the penalty for THEIR mistake.
What kind of incompetency is this to send a dog home with a staple still in its stomach. Bizarre.
They were really ‘funny’ with me after this incident and when we visited again my mum overheard staff members talking about us. Not very professional is it……
I had a 1st physio session booked in for my dog so I asked at reception how do I get into the physio, do I go outside to the main doors a good walk away, or can I go through the pet shop area to them.
The receptionist (super rude with a huge blonde bun on top of her head) told me I had to go outside and walk round to the doors to get in.
I carried my dog out, into the cold, round to those doors. They are not in use. She knew this when she spitefully sent me out that way.
How can a receptionist not know that the outside doors are not in use? She works at Pride, not me!
I returned back to say I cannot enter that way, then she said, oh yeah, go through the pet shop area..I asked why had she sent me out that way then? She said she didn’t know you could go through the pet shop area! Seriously?
She’s dealing with physio patients on a daily basis, so that excuse of course I found hard to believe.
she had sent me on a pointless mission outside with my dog. She then proceeded to bad mouth me to another staff member as my mum overheard them talking about us.
What exactly had I done wrong there, NOTHING!
I had booked my dog in for 10 sessions of physio, so they gave a discount of £200 off of that as a goodwill gesture for the metal staple they left in her belly.
Fair enough.
My dog went back to pride for a 6 week post op Xray and check.
There was another ‘miscommunication’ again with a nurse, Adriana who had said information to me that was not correct..
this then resulted in another chat the following day with a rather hostile Alice, who said I seem upset every time I visit.
Well I’d say I’m well within my rights to be upset at a metal staple being left in my dogs belly, also being badmouthed by reception staff, the incident with blonde bun sending me out into the cold with my dog the wrong way to physio, then the incident with Adriana…. Etc etc etc.
Yes, I have lost all faith in this practice. It feels uncomfortable & awkward to go there now, however I will complete my dogs physio sessions.
Some of the staff there are quite simply incompetent & some reception staff are not very good at their job, sadly Pride will never accept that. It seems it’s the customers fault, never theirs.
Maybe it was my fault they left the staple in. Hmmm.
It’s gone so downhill from my last experience 4 years prior where we had no complaints.
They need extra training regarding ‘miscommunication’ how to behave at reception, & how to make sure a large metal staple is removed before the dog is sent home.
THEY NEVER ADMIT THEIR FAILINGS NOR DO THEY APOLOGISE!
**ALICE- look at the awful reviews on here,Says it all doesn’t it?
Only cares about the money
Don't go we waited two hours for my dog to get a check up and didn't even see her they only care about your money

AVOID AVOID AVOID
Would not go here again ! THEY DONT HAVE RESPECT FOR YOUR PETS LIFE !!! THEY DONT CARE ABOUT THE ANIMALS OR YOU ! Only about MONEY !!!
They are very money grabbing
To the point of vicious and criminal !
They seem to becoming more corrupt /unprofessional as time goes by.
Everyone in Ddrby is now going to be made aware because I’m going to tell everyone including the professional body that they operate in very shady ways.
I have indeed reported them for this and for their unprofessional often rude attitude. In particular l don’t trust the first opinion vets because they are always leaving , usually they are temporary, foreign and can’t speak English/or have difficult accents to understand
Which just adds to the stress and confusion.
You never or rarely see same vet twice which leads to inadequate treatment of your pet plus added consultation fees full on highest prices in the midlands! .
They seem to have little compassion or interest in the animals they treat,
They are self absorbed
Narcissistic, gaslighting bullies. .
They seem to try to rip customers off whenever they can which has caused me to lose trust in them.
I think they just see pets and customers as “cash cows”
Their admin is so unhelpful to the point of being intimidating and rude on occasions.
They don’t seem to have a practice manager and if they do they are totally useless.

Corporate Greed Prioritising profit over care
I took my French bulldog in for an eye infection which was a result of a small scratch. It was a quick 10-minute appointment in which he was prescribed antibiotics and pain relief.
10 days later my boy is happy and healthy.
The Bill itself was shocking.
I was charged £221.75
To make matters worse, my pet insurance refused to cover the medication as it was over 100% markup
Total Payment £94.53 back to me 40%
Just a typical example of Corporate Greed Prioritising profit over care
Need to have a word with your reception…
Need to have a word with your reception staff ! Vets couldn't fault at all . All treatments my sons horse had was spot on right down to having her put to sleep , but the receptionist is something else ! Less than 24 hours of having her put to sleep sent a blank email to my son who was distressed enough by having lost his beloved horse ! On ringing up the reception to be told he needed to pay over £800 00 pound less than 24 hours after ! Where is her care and compassion ? Obviously didn't have any !
We see a Great Vet
We see a Great Vet, HOWEVER the prices of a take away prescription or supplied meds are disgusting it’s an absolute rip off. If my vet leaves I will not continue to use this practise. I believe they are showing on a company search as being under the control of a receiver this is maybe why but it’s pure greed I wonder how many animals die because their family can’t afford the treatment - Shocking
Currently arguing with Scarsdale
Currently arguing with Scarsdale about my experience.
Took my pet in for a growth. Given a cream to try and told "if no improvement come back"
No improvement, went back.
Got the most unprofessional, blasé vet. They may have been technically correct but the lack of empathy and lack of an actual clear answer was a masterpiece and should be studied by young conservatives at Eaton, in how to avoid answering a direct question.
Just avoid.
Please never take your animals here
Please never take your animals here. They paralyzed my dog last year, lied to me saying she was fine after surgery and they was taking her outside for a walk when in fact she was completely paralyzed, they left her to hemorrhage for 24 hours before even taking her in for the second surgery where another disc had also gone whilst she was in their care and i even had the manager out in the car park antagonizing me being extremely rude. I had nurses tell me three different ways her bladder was done after surgery so they was all clearly lying knowing full well someone seriously hurt her and caused damage, even the surgeon said in other words 'too much manipulation maybe after theater' so they basically man handled her and caused this. They all lied through their teeth throughout the whole process, i mean the first neurologist Emma thought it wasn't even IVDD and thought it was her knee turns out she was grade 5 so that says it all.
They are now sending threatening letters to my home demanding another £2,000 1 YEAR LATER after we have already payed over £10,000.
The attitude and lack of empathy was disgusting from all staff and not once have any of them contacted since to check on her. They have caused significant damage to her spine she will never walk again.
Shocked by sudden price hike
I've always found the vets themselves and the nurses good at there jobs, informative and clear with treatment options. However the pricing is crazy! I've always been charged slightly different amounts for my cats long term pain relief, with no explanation and now since they've had a 'system upgrade' the prices have changed again, without warning this loxciom medication has had a 200% price increase, that's with me paying the monthly pet health plan, which should give discount.
During the 5day system upgrade my cat became unwell, the promised call back was never received and then was told to have an appointment during this upgrade would incur a emergency fee of £134, just because they are having a new computer system. This didn't make sense to me, why is that my pets problem. I have complained, but the complaint has never been acknowledged. Disappointing.
Individual vets are generally very good…
Individual vets are generally very good but as a company the running of the practice leaves a lot to be desired. First thing is wait time for calls to be answered are an average of 20 to 25 minutes. Promised call backs don't happen. Communication between vets and different vet locations is zero. Every time I call or visit vets with my dogs current condition I have to explain the treatment she's recieved so far as the vets cannot find things on the computer in the consultation room. At my last visit the vet said she couldn't find the results of the scan my dog had at pride Park 3 weeks previous. The vet had to call in a nurse to fetch a laptop to see if they could locate the scan results. When i asked one vet and her assisting nurse if the vets at pride Park actually communicate with the other vets the reply was a look at each other and then at me which said it all. My dog was referred to scarsdales referral team but for several weeks I had to keep chasing this up as nothing was happening. My dog then developed annother issue and the vet I saw at one of the satellite surgerys said she would mark the dogs records as URGENT REFERRAL. The following week I rang referrals to ask what was happening with the urgent referral and the reply was there isn't an urgent referral on my dogs records. My dog is still waiting treatment after being on crate rest for almost a month. When this course of treatment is completed I may have to take my dogs elsewhere unless things drastically improve at this practice
Too many failures
Had to wait 2 hours for my appointment today because they cleared it off the system when I arrived.
Pricing is outrageous and constantly changing. After messaging in advance to check how much it would come to I was charged over £300 when I was told it would be £50. I We pay for the Pet Health Club but they do not always take the discount off before paying for medication.
On the one instance we had to have emergency surgery, the gave our cat a double dose of anaesthetic that nearly killed him.
The vets themselves are lovely, but as a clinic we are looking elsewhere.
Extortionate pricing please ring round
Extortionate pricing please ring round, my dog had had an operation for an eye ulcer the Friday before bank holiday (a mistake by me) she woke up Monday morning with her eye swollen bleeding and weeping from the stitches so I had to ring Pride Park as they were the out of hours vets £315 just for the consultation a morphine injection and bottle of pain relief £374. Friend went to an emergency vets same day in Stoke £186 for consultation on Bank holiday just goes to show. Said she would need to be sedated to release the stitches but I decided to wait . My own vet rang me the same day having seen the email from them asked to see her (free because I had already paid enough her words) she released the stitches in 3 secs to find a skin infection so my dog didn’t need sedating she is a calm happy pooch so they would have sedated unnecessarily too and well as extremely high prices I will avoid going forward and make sure I ring round if I ever need an out of hours apt in future
Neurology clinician
Neurology clinician, Charis Tang was nothing short of amazing when I visited as an emergency admission with my, beloved miniature dachshund, Amber who could not walk following a back injury.
She did an outstanding full assessment of Amber, had cardiologist, neurologist consultants exam her and gave me amazing advice and reassurance whilst enabling me to make an informed decision on her follow up care.
She showed empathy and compassion and I left feeling much more reassured about Ambers future quality if life.
Thank you Charis, I will be eternally grateful for the loving, professional care you have provided

Inflated Prices and Unnecessary Treatment
Our Bengal cross cat Pixel is 10 and had injured her little toe on her back foot at about 10pm. Not life threatening but thought we had better get her checked out. So we made her comfy overnight and she was purring quite happily. The next day I made an appointment for lunchtime at Scarsdale Vets at Oakwood. We assumed she had caught her foot in something and had partly severed her little toe. The vet confirmed this in the consultation (£60) and advised that we would have to take her to Pride Park for further treatment. He advised the cost would be about £1000 maybe even £1500 if Xrays were required. The paperwork I signed had an estimate of £1000 - £2000. This I thought was expensive!! We took her to Pride Park and another vet said she would sedate her to clean the wound and have a good look. She advised she would phone us during the process. We were worried and upset as we love our little cat. At 4pm the vet phoned and advised that Pixel’s toe was just hanging on with a little piece of skin and will have to be amputated. She suggested she stayed in overnight (£200) with intravenous sedation and antibiotics and then operated on the next day. Ok… How much? I was told fortunately no X-rays were required and the cost will be £2000. With no X-rays??? Vet could not guarantee that this would be £2000 as it would depend on sedation and it could well be £200 more!!! I asked why she didn’t take the toe off there and then while Pixel was sedated and was told it had to be another operation. This meant that Pixel 10 years old had to be sedated on two consecutive days surely that’s not right? Anyway, I agreed as I felt so upset and wanted to do the right thing. Then I felt angry and felt I was being ripped off. We phoned Pride Park and finally got through after a tense 20 minute wait!! We said we wanted to collect Pixel and terminate the treatment. At the ‘hospital’ the vet was quite abrupt and really did not want me to take Pixel without me having made arrangements with another vet for her treatment (sending me on another guilt trip) So much so I asked her if she could legally keep my pet without my permission!! No she said. We took Pixel home at 5:30 with antibiotics and was charged £495. She was fine and slept on the bed in-between us purring with legs up in the air for a belly rub. This is not a cat who needs sedation or pain killers. The whole experience has been really distressing for myself and my husband, we were both so angry that these vets could take advantage of us with their unnecessary treatment and extortionate prices.
Do not use the internal medicine department
Used them as a specialist referral from my usual vets. Subsequently was warned by many people about the internal medicine department. The service from start to finish was below what it should be. The interaction with the vet was at best upsetting and at worst traumatising. They wanted to put my pet through experimental treatment at my expense having made it clear it was unlikely to do anything. They made inappropriate comments about other vet’s practices. They were only interested in how interesting a teaching case it was and what extra they could do for their own benefit at my expense. They clearly had zero care or compassion for the animal. The complaints process was a joke. 6 months later they have just sent me my final bill. Overcharging for unnecessary/excessive tests as indicated by an independent vet.other pet owners who I have described my experience too have relayed there similar experience with significant over charging/testing. I am still deeply upset by the experience and how it was handled. I wouldn’t ever go there again. The internal medicine vets I dealt with are a disgrace to the profession
Warning to small animal, rabbits/exotic pet owners
Warning to small animal owners exotic pet owners like Rabbits - Do not risk life of your loved with with this practice Pride Park, Derby.
This used to be a great vets, but they keep losing specialist staff and no longer have the skilled staff to manage exotic pet issues. They were trusted with the care of two of my exotic pets and both died to hospital care negligence and lack of access to knowledgeable staff.
Both consulting vets called me to personally apologise for the failings in care,. leading to loss of life, but this provides little comfort when your loved ones have died and suffered due to ignorance and negligence.
It such a shame when a practice loses it's talented specialists and worse when they won't engage to discuss the problems.
There are very few exotic vets in the area, but do some Google searches and you'll find there are a couple of true experts you can contact for support.
Don't risk the life of your loved one with Pride, look for a specialist small animal/exotic vet with a good history, avoid Pride vets and avoid losing your loved ones to inexperienced care.
