I first contacted Step Change, but the budgetary part of the process really scared me and I stressed about how I was going to manage it. I then contacted the National Debtline and they walked me through the entire process and completed everything over the phone. Their advice and unwavering support, including forwarding my DRO to Citizens Advice (they deal with the submitted process and take the application to its outcome) has removed a lot of stress and start to believe that a DRO is possible.

A really great positive experience I am currently following instructions from my advisor. My case is ongoing at the moment but I hope it will be the same advisor when I call back in a couple of weeks.

contacted National Debtline for help with my debt situation and unfortunately the experience was extremely frustrating.
I spent a long time going through automated questions, only to be told I would be transferred to someone who could help. Instead, I was sent back to the original phone line and had to wait again, effectively starting the process over.

When I finally spoke to an adviser, I was asked to repeat the same information I had already provided earlier in the call, including personal details and a full breakdown of income and expenses. This made the process repetitive and unnecessarily time-consuming.

After around 54 minutes on the phone, I still hadn’t received any clear advice or resolution, so I ended the call myself.

When you are already under financial stress, this kind of experience feels disorganised and inefficient. I expected clearer guidance and a more straightforward route to getting help.

If you want, I can also:
make a short “rage version” (2–3 lines, more punchy)
or a calmer version that’s more likely to get an official response from them
or help you re-use this across multiple platforms so your complaint has more impact

Very friendly, knowledgeable and profession service. All info was thorough and clear. No rushing and the advisor was very patient with me.

With the problem that I have, I do not know which way to turn. Fortunately I was given the details to contact National Debtline. The lady was so able and helpful and kind and kept in contact with me. I value her support.
The Debtline service is necessary so that people can be helped when in this situation.

Farouk (sorry if i have misspelt that) was absolutely amazing on the phone today. Extremely knowledgable and spoke to me in a very kind but professional manner when i started to get flustered. Really helped ease my anxiety- if you are considering seeking debt advice and are putting it off, please just do it. Again Farouk was so lovely and professional, big shout out to him.
