The Job to clean the chimney only took…
The Job to clean the chimney only took 5 mins - 15 mins in total to set up and pack up. Yet the cost of £72 still applies. A rude receptionist who threatened court action as the payment was a few days after the job. You can get cheaper elsewhere, with a better customer service.

Brilliant service James and Hadyn
James and Haydn were called out to clean our chimney and to save a pigeon which had sadly fallen down. They were truly professional and so kind. They successfully saved the pigeon too! True gentlemen and always a brilliant company to do business with. I highly recommend them to anyone.

I needed a chimney sweeping. Following the reply from MILBORROW, I can only repeat that the second sweep completeted the job, and declared the liner undamaged.
I needed a chimney sweeping. Milborrow had an online advert, ( claiming royal patronage!)....& could attend swiftly..( we wanted a fire over Xmas!)
A man duly arrived....but very quickly told me my chimney flue was “ compromised”.... requiring complete renewal.
We spent Xmas without a fire, and received a quote for ( approx) £2000....feeling a little wary...( the story about having had a mystery chimney fire didn’t quite add up!).... we found another sweep....who turned up, swept the chimney without problem...inspected the flue, and declared it in perfect order!! ...all done in 1/2 hr , and charged £60!...
I would add that trying to leave a review on CHECKATRADE.... turned out to be futile!....somehow MILBORROW could not be found??!!
( all my claims can be verified....and after complaining to their management, was told their charge( £70) was fair, and they refused any refund. )
I would strongly advise anyone to avoid ....or check carefully....any work done by this company.
They are big!!....two sweeps I’ve since spoken to both confirm unpleasant experience of this company.
( ask ANY local tradesmen??)

We do get cross when reviews are written without the whole story of what occurred and ask that you withdraw your 1 star review. Our sweep attended the property to sweep the chimney and removed a stove full of soot in three rods sent up the chimney. The situation was discussed with yourself and your partner that your chimney had not been swept for some time and not surprised that it was now a problem as discussed during our visit. There was a blockage approx 3.5m up the chimney which we could not get past and as discussed between the Operative, Office and yourself the flue liner is now compromised and further investigation and works required. A chimney fire can destroy a stainless steel liner. The manufacturers would advise that if you have a chimney fire and a blockage is located, a new liner would be advised. Unfortunately, this problem has been caused through lack of maintenance. Another sweep has now been back at your property without knowing the whole story and cannot confirm the flue lining is ok after clearing the blockage. The flue is now cleared, but is it safe? We are concerned for your safety, if the flue liner collapses and/or you have another chimney fire could fumes enter your property. The decision was yours to go elsewhere, but safety is paramount when it comes to Chimney Fires. Ben, G MD

Great service
Jim and Rex came to clean our chimney last week. They were both very knowledgeable and and efficient. Being fireplace novices, I asked a lot of questions and they very helpfully answered all of my questions. They were fast and efficient and the chimney was cleaned in no time. Milborrow was the first chimney sweep who answered my call (after trying a few others in the local area). They explained the process and booked me in. I'm glad I went with Milborrow and will definitely recommend them and use them in the future.

Best sweep!
We have been using the services if Millborrow for about 20 years. Initially to open up, inspect and sweep a disused chimney. Then to sweep it as an open fire every year. Two years ago they supplied and fitted a multifuel burner into this same fireplace. The flue was lined, and a new hearth, surrounded and mantle were fitted. It is fabulous. Their advice and workmanship is second to none. The care and customer service provided is top notch. They are totally reliable, clean, prompt and trustworthy. I would (and do regularly) recommend them. Job well done.

Will use again
This is the first time I’ve used Milborrow Chimney Sweeps and would thoroughly recommend them. Mark and Shaun arrived within the specified time fame and immediately got to work.
The flue was swept with no mess and the wood burner and the surrounding area were vacuumed clean.
Over the past year my wood burning stove had ‘walked’ by a centimeter or two on the glass hearth which, apparently, is not uncommon. It was carefully repositioned and the flue joints resealed. To reduce the risk of movement happening again the burner feet were very neatly siliconed to the glass hearth. A really professional job. Thanks guys.

Very pleased.
The sweep phoned to ask if he could come early. He was very polite, clean and friendly. And he was quick. He also had good advice about lighting the fire to avoid smoke leaking into the room at the beginning. He did 2 chimneys and the price was as expected. It was great that they could fit us in at the last minute just before Christmas. I would recommend them.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. I have used them on three occasions, they dont sweep properly and when they quote for other work they low ball "rough estimates" then come out to quote but charge to quote. You are then faced with paying them to attempt to rip you off or agree to be ripped off. Small claims court is their preferred style of combat. I found this out when a true professional came to quote for a stove replacement. Avoid!

Good Morning,
I am afraid we have no recollection of completing works for yourself or whom you actually are? We do however provide "rough estimates" from images and/or telephone calls subject to survey for the exact reasons you seem to have experienced. Which is un-forseen things on site and the project mean the actual works will potentially be more than the "rough estimate" which is based on just standard works/access and situations.
We do indeed charge for our operatives time and fuel to come to site and complete a formal survey providing information and their knowledge and experience followed up with that information been conveyed back to the office for the admin team to then process and formulate and arrange this to be sent to yourself. We are a business and have overheads for this I am afraid.
When people have accepted our estimate (clearly broken down not a fixed total price) and we invoice for said works accordingly and then a client refuses to pay. We then spend more time and moneys in attempting to resolve these and if we are forced into a corner indeed we will send the details across to the small claims court sadly. Which if we were such a rip off company we wouldn't then be successful with once a independent professional has review the facts....

Edit; Mr Stoner I have now located who you are through the multiple reviews you have left on different platforms; To clarify - here is my exact wording of the original estimated costs:
I cant really tell the access from those photos but I suggest a budget of £1,200 - £1,500 plus the stove is a realistic budget. We will need to arrange a visit to assess then I can get a formal estimate for you. We charge £50+vat for this visit but that cost will be deducted off your final invoice if you proceed. Do let me know if you wish to proceed with this.
I think I rest my case.
Awful sweeping service
We won't be using this chimney sweep again. We used to have a great chimney sweep come out every year who would do a superb job, but unfortunately we were told he had left this year. The "sweep" that came we could here from around the corner with the music blaring out, not what you want first thing in the morning and we had to apologise to our neighbours. That was the first of many issues, he had thrown the rods up, not even asking us if we wanted to see the brush out the chimney pot, a tradition we enjoy every year. Then to be told 10 minutes after arrival that we had to pay more than the quoted £72, which is an absurd increase from previous years, all because our chimney "is bigger than average". He then went on to shake his dust sheet and empty his hoover on my driveway spreading soot everywhere. God only hopes they don't sweep the Queen's chimney to the same standard that we have received

I do apologise that our sweep turned up with the music in his vehicle too loud and the same to your neighbours too. The sweep should have shown you the brush out the top indeed and the chimney sweeping report you have signed does say the "did you see the brush out the top" this is our code of practice.
The fees charges are not more than standard, you have been charged our standard fee. Last years fee was £65.00 for a standard sweep and this year we have actually reduced the standard charge to £60+VAT which is a total of £72.00 incl VAT. An inglenook flue which is larger than average is charged at £75+VAT and this isn't the fees you have been charged. All prices are subject to "providing no problems or blockages" which in your case there hasn't been.
I am afraid when the hoovers become full the chaps do need to empty them but again if spillages are made then these should be swept up off the driveway the same way as when shaking the sheets off ready for the next job. But soot is actually very good for the garden and grass especially with rose bushes.

I was asked to take a look when the brush was out of the chimney which was pleasing, the paperwork was completed and handed to me on completion and I paid via bank transfer the same day. have no concerns at all about recommending this company.

Would not recommend
Our chimney was swept earlier this year (possibly Feb) and no protective sheets were placed on the surrounding furniture and I believe that as a direct consequence of this our antique sofa is marked/stained with a (fortunately small) dot of black soot that is quite obvious sadly on the pale yellow fabric. As an aside, the sweep also used our loo without asking and this was during lockdown. Would not recommend.

I am sorry you have felt the need to leave a poor review online rather than contact us as a company to resolve the situation in the first instance. On a £60+VAT standard sweep I am afraid we do not cover the whole room with protective sheeting we have a large specialist sheet we lay in front of the fireplace which is where all of our equipment and tools including our operative works from. Secondly we have a fireplace sheet we erect and seal to the fireplace front and have an industrial hoover running at all times. This reduces the risk of any spillage. We also pre works have requested you to complete a Covid Document and our operatives are regularly tested and are wearing gloves and have the relevant PPE, I apologise if our operative didn't ask permission to use your facilities before doing so. I am sorry that we have not lived up to your expectations and wish you all the best.

A highly skilled team who transformed our house
We decided to renovate our inglenook fireplace in our grade 2 listed home in Sussex, so contacted Milborrow after receiving poor advice from a number of building firms. Milborrow put us in touch with a contractor who immediately demonstrated extensive knowledge of period properties and gave us the information we needed to apply for Listed Buildings consent for the work. Once granted, we proceeded with what was, as expected, a complex project. The initial contractor carefully and sympathetically deconstructed the beehive in the fireplace and carried out the necessary work to make good the rear of the inglenook, which was impressive and involved some incredibly skilled brickwork. The next pair of guys installed the register plate and a twin-walled flue inside the chimney to avoid damaging the historic woodwork in chimney breast, and then installed the log burner provided by Croydon Fireplaces, and replaced the chimney pots which were loose. All aspects of the job were done with expertise, and where issues were found we were informed immediately. The result is incredible and our house has been transformed. All involved were highly skilled and passionate about doing a great job for us, and I have no doubt that the value now added to our property is far greater than the cost of the project. We can’t thank Milborrow enough.
