Where to begin? I thought I would up my amps on my Makita batteries. So, I purchased a pair from "ffx" in the UK. (Great company by the way). But, to warn others before purchasing Makitas 6 Amp batteries. DONT!
No doubt I am not the only one who has had this fault problem with their 6Amp batteries, there is something seriously wrong with them. When placed on the career the battery indicator lights flash in pairs from side to side. Indicating a fault, hence they will not charge. When I sent the first battery back, I spoke to a technician on the phone and they said they were aware of the problem and sent me a replacement. Well, after a few months, the replacement developed the same fault, I returned it to them, only to be told that there was only a 3-month warranty on the replacement, although it was a brand new battery? The second battery has developed the same fault but I was told out of warranty. Looking at the Trust Pilots website, I was amazed at how many bad reviews Makita has. I certainly will not be buying any more of their tools. They know the problem with the Batteries. They should have done a recall. Either stick to the lower amp batteries or be prepared to be messed around! Disgusting service.. Edit. I thought I would add to this review the fact that. Before I returned the battery, I was asked to produce proof of purchase and the date I bought the batteries, and I also informed them that it was a replacement battery. After supplying these details they then sent me a special box with vermiculite in it to return it. So if they had all the details of the battery, why would they ask for it back to inspect it? They also had the cheek to send me a note with the fault codes for the battery. Unbelievable.

Support despite a written email requested by the rep and several follow ups through the rep failed to respond to questions regarding the accuracy of the large plunge router.
Ditto in the case of direct mails to support.
Phone contact was useless - the guys on support knew nothing relevant.
Bought the router against my better judgement because the product seems to have a good reputation.
Distributor it seems can't be bothered quoting for required accessories.
Warranty registration through the website doesn't work - dead link.
Just hoping that we won't need support...

Ok so I suppose it is my fault for the issue I have, but who reads the small print?

My £200 Makita DAB radio doesn’t work from batteries anymore, only works via mains which isn’t useful for an electrician. When I purchased it, it said three year warrantee, I didn’t realise it was a one year, but had to sign up to extend it….. The radio is a little over one year old, hardly a mark on it, never used outside or in dusty environments etc. so had a really easy life.

I contacted Makita earlier in the week and they won’t give me the benefit of the doubt and help me with it.

To be honest, I’m gutted because me and all the guys I supply tools to use Makita and we have tons of their gear.

I simply won’t let myself buy our company any more Makita gear, so will have to choose another brand which will cost me a lot of money over time.

Reading other reviews does help back my thoughts up on Makita as a company in general. I’m hoping my addition to the already terrible reviews can help a few people stay clear of Makita!

My experience with Makita customer service has been extremely disappointing. I contacted them to send my my battery, but the women I spoke with was unable to provide clear information about what is covered under warranty and what is not. She mentioned that she was the only person handling all the customer queries. When I inquired about my battery, she initially requested photos and proof of purchase. However, shortly after, she informed me that the battery was out of warranty and could only be accepted for a paid repair. Then she state that they couldn’t repair the battery but could still take it in, without clarifying what they would do with it. She mentioned potential charges, but couldn't specify whether these would be for a diagnosis or a new battery. It was very frustrating to hear that they would ‘take it in and see’ without providing any information. It's unacceptable for such a large international company to have just one person managing the entire customer service in the UK, and it's even worse that they can't offer clear guidance on what they can or cannot do. I would not recommend their service – while the tools may be good, dealing with customers service is a nightmare

Excess chuck runout on a Makita DHP485 drill, still within 1 year warranty. Sent to Makita Repairs 3 separate times within a 6 week period, returned each time since not properly repaired. Second time returned with hammer action locked in all 3 settings! No information, communication or update provided on status of repairs, even when complaint raised requesting what testing performed to determine if runout within set tolerances. So fed up took drill back to Screwfix where I bought it, who kindly replaced it with another make of drill, a Milwaukee, great!

The Makita SDS drill we bought was used just 3 times over a period of 10 months - then it "s**t" itself. Well looked after and no abuse, so actually it wasn't fit for purpose. Guarantee only 1 year. Returned it to supplier (in Ireland) who sent it to Fermanagh (Northern Ireland, UK) for REPAIR would you believe! Three weeks on and we're still without it.... "on the bench" apparently whilst they decide whether to repair or replace. Absolutely disgusting. Should be replaced with a new one and a fresh 1-yr guarantee. Supplier doesn't bother to update me at all, so I have to chase. By the time I get it back the guarantee will be almost out. Will not buy a Makita anything again ever.

Im a starter woodworker and i have bought their trim router and circular saw 165mm both wired and i have to say their meet my excpectations though its kinda scammy how the adapter for my circular saw to work with a circular saw guide track is 70 quid nearly the same amount i bought the saw for but aside from that their decent enough

Hmm … very interesting, all these negative comments. Cant help but wonder why as every tradesperson coming to us uses them!
Maybe - as with other brands - theres a big difference between professional and DIY models. Stihl also comes to mind. B&D is a good DIY brand; made by DeWalt,,I believe.
Just started with a corded Makita chainsaw after a year’s wasted time with a Hyundai.
Chain tensioning works perfectly as does the adjustable oiling system. Cuts like a knife through butter.
Batteries always a problem whatever brand you use. If you can stay near a power point this is the one to use.
So far I cannot fault it.

Avoid these scumbags at all costs.

They never honour their warranties on anything and customer service is appalling.

Have switched all my tools to another brand and sold everything.

I purchased a cordless lawnmower with a promotional offer for a free battery. I applied to the promotions team they asked for information like proof of purchase and serial numbers and even a photo of the box. I sent off all the documents but received an email about a week later saying more info was needed, so I sent as much information to proved I’d purchased the lawnmower as I had but a week later got another email saying that the offer had been declined.
I emailed customer services to ask why and they told me that the promotions team needed more information and if I sent it I’d be able to wet to offer. I emailed both customer services and the promotions team to ask what more information they need but I never received a reply.
I was planning to buy a number of cordless Makita tools and that’s why I chose this lawnmower with the promotion but now I will look to a different company for my custom.
The lawnmower itself isn’t bad, it does what I need it to do but with the customer aftercare I wouldn’t recommend Makita to anyone.

My Makita hedge trimmer DUH751 failed within a year with a broken blade. They refused to fix it under warranty and quoted £190 for parts, plus labor and return postage (Makita ref 10022581).

Since the warranty on Makita products is worthless, and build quality is substandard I really find it difficult to recommend their products.

I purchased a lawnmower which broke down, as it is still under warranty they advised me to send it to MOL Maghera which obviously is their local repair branch for N.Ireland. This firm had it from 20/03/24 till 16/05/24, however it was returned to us still faulty. Despite asking for a refund we were advised to return it to the same firm to have it repaired. Against our better judgement we sent it back to MOL Maghera, that was 30/05/24 and as of today 27/06/24 we still have not reviewed it back. I have tried speaking with the manager of Makita but somehow he is never available or the usual line of "he'll call you back within the hour". I have been in touch with consumer line and it looks like Makita have an obligation under the consumer rights act 2015. Please avoid purchasing from this company, all will be fine if you have no faults needing fixing but don't expect any support from this firm. AVOID

I have recently been working for Makita and I’ve had an amazing time working for you through the busy timings unfortunately due to my health I have caught a viral cough and chest infection which is going around the UK I have been telling the managers on a daily basis I’m not in the best conditions but been carrying on working . Now today I had an asthma attack and went to hospital straight away. Spent 5 to 6 hours in the waiting room to find out, I’ve lost my job because agency but the people they like they have keep ( I have proof to show I have not been well) but friend came in work but hour late because had help me and got rid of himself very sad didn’t expect this from Makita @MakitaUK @MakitaTooL

I bought a twin drill and driver set in December 2022. The drill chuck was not functioning properly, it was very tight on rotation and it was difficult to turn the collar from drill, to driver, to hammer. I sent the drill back under warranty and it was returned to me saying there was no fault. The drill is now 6 months out of warranty and has failed, the gear assembly requires changing even though it has hardly been used and they want to charge me more than the cost of a new drill to repair it. They ask for £24 to return it if I don't want to them to repair it. Absolute rip off merchants. Really poor for what i thought was a reputable company. They can keep the drill as it is no longer servicable - poor quality and poor customer service

The customer service is appalling, and the repair charges are extortionate. I'm trying to convince the company director to switch to another brand. They are also not good at keeping customer data protected, sending us tools belonging to other people with their name and address. Their online warranty system is inadequate, and then they blame the customer.

Charged £65 to repair a jigsaw that i had only used a handful of times. Might as well have got a new one. Told them i was disappointed but they were not interested. Jigsaw looked new.

Really disappointed
8 months into the machine and it has failed.
Told to take it to a local repair shop in my time then collect it .
Forget Makita no more money from me

Most recently the laser measure total piece of rubbish completely dead just over a year so no warranty. Don’t waste your money

If I could give a zero star I would. Bought a drill some 2 years ago. Registered it for the warranty. The drill broke recently so took it to the local shop for repair. Makita said they would honour the claim despite no longer having the proof of purchase. Proof of purchase is now a new thing that they require and they did not require it when I first registered the drill. After the drill was repaired they then decided that they were not going to honour it. I will never buy a makita tool as long as I live. I would suggest you do the same as they are cheap rubbish and the guarantee won't be honoured when it breaks.
