We are a family business, owned by Ben and Kara Hanna, that values premiere, quality roses and the preservation of unique and rare roses. Located in the fertile Willamette Valley in Oregon, we are continuing the legacy of John and Louise Clements who founded the nursery back in 1972 on their own small farm. Our offices are still located in the farmhouse where they lived in St. Paul, Oregon. We are passionate about hand propagating each rose to ensure that we provide our customers with the best own-root roses available. We are committed to providing own-root roses that provide profuse blooms, are winter hardy, are disease resistant, and are true to variety. While own-root roses cannot be quickly produced, like grafted roses, we think the difference and quality is worth it.

Buyer beware of you buy their roses on any third party site like Amazon or Walmart they do not honor the one year warranty policy and prices are marked higher on third party sites.

Stop Shopping Heirloom Rose for their Fake Warranty Policy

I feel obliged to share my poorest experience with a company like Heirloomroses.com that claims that they have a warranty policy in place to lure customers for their products, but, in fact, that so-called policy is subjective and up-to their own CS team's judgement.I spent over 6000 dollars for their plant and fertilizer in a year from June 2024 and keep buying almost every month because of my trust in their quality and service. However, I live in NE FL, the extreme summer weather sometimes made it difficult for the young seeding plants to survive. When I report 5 plants for warranty request lately, I got rejected because they believed the plants died due to the fact I planted them in small pots instead of a 15 gallon container. I explained to them that based on some experienced local rose gardeners in zone 9B-10, it is best to grow the small plants in the small pots to monitor the nutrition and water supply closely for the first few month before moving them to a bigger pot of 3 Gallon to 5 gallon as they grow. We should never grow the baby plants in a large container to make it more difficult for the plant to survive. Unfortunately, Heirloom CS team thinks they know the climate worldwide and deem themselves as experts to have misjudges and refused a claim from a decent and loyal customer who entrusted them with so much time and money. They should have made changes in the warranty terms to have informed people how they truly deal with the claims, which is subject to their own judgement and understanding how to grow roses.
In doing so, more opportunities would be turned to retailers like Home Depot, Lowe's and Ace Hardware that truly believe in the quality standard and stat behind their products. In addition, their prices are so much less expensive than Heirloom Roses'. Stay away from the fake warranty statement and shop rose plants elsewhere.

Our warranty is in place to support customers when plants do not survive despite being planted and cared for according to our recommendations. To give roses the best chance of establishing, we ask that they be transplanted into at least a 5-gallon container within two weeks of arrival. This allows the root system adequate space to grow without competing for nutrients or water.

In this case, the photos show that your roses remained in smaller containers for several months, alongside other plants. Because this planting method does not meet the care guidelines we provide, we were unable to honor the warranty.

We regret that this has left you feeling unsupported, as that is never our intention. Our team is committed to helping all gardeners succeed with their roses, and we will take your feedback into account as we continue to improve how we communicate our warranty terms and planting guidance.

Fingers Crossed…

I just received my rose bush…I ordered 4 of them. I assumed I would be getting a Rose bush with a couple of flowers. I had no leaves and no flowers just stems. Maybe this is how they ship?!? I’ve planted them and hoping for some leaf growth soon. For the price they look really spindly and not strong….Secondly, I’m disappointed they do not notify you when the shipment leaves the warehouse…after the order is placed there really isn’t much follow up…unlike Fast Growing Trees. They alert when they ship and when they are delivered. This is my first time “cheating” on Fast Growing Trees…fingers crossed 🤞🏽 t ends better than it started.

Using AI instead of personal service. Uncaring!

Apparently, there is no ability for me to leave a review on Google, so I am leaving reviews on other platforms to warn others of my experience. Their customer service seems to have changed drastically. I’m highly disappointed with my experience. I was initially put through to an AI robot, which, had I been informed about, would have helped manage expectations. However, Gemma’s responses were frustratingly unhelpful, and she wasn’t truly understanding my concerns. Upon realizing I was speaking with AI, it was the final straw.

Even though my account shows 10 roses in the “Archived Wishlist,” the page simply won't load. If there had been a real person monitoring this, they could have helped resolve this issue instead of Gemma dismissively telling me that “some wishlists didn’t transfer.” How could she possibly if know mine didn’t? More likely, the issue lies with the page’s loading function. This is something that could affect all customers—why doesn’t HR want to be aware of that?

Bottom line, I’ve spent over $1,100 buying over 30 rose bushes from Heirloom Roses in recent years, and while I’ve always supported the company, I can’t continue to do business with a company that relies so heavily on AI without proper human oversight. For my new rose garden, I’ll be purchasing from other companies like David Austin and Jackson & Perkins moving forward. I’ve been loyal to Heirloom Roses, but this experience has shown a lack of genuine care for ALL HR customers. I simply can't support a company that doesn't value its patrons.

Fall on love with roses again!

I now have 8 rose from Heirloom Roses, and I have fallen in love with roses--again. Over the years, the roses I've bought were not 'own root' and they eventually would go back to the 'mother plant.' This company is amazing, their roses are amazing, and they want you to be successful at growing healthy roses!

So disappointed

They sent me a rose that was weak and spindly, but I knew I could baby it, so I did not complain. First year, the blooms were what I ordered. Second year, it was a completely different rose. I moved it, thinking perhaps not enough sun? This year, bloomed “wrong” again. So I contacted them to ask if they could at least tell me what rose I had received, so I would know growth pattern. Woman spoke to grower, wrote back that there was probably a different set of roots mixed in, which is why I got the right rose the first year. Duh, I know that, I just want to know what I DID get. Wrote back explaining that. I got attitude. “There is no way I could answer that” attitude.
I paid $70 to get the wrong rose and you will not take the picture to your greenhouse and ask someone who does know your product what they think? I will not use them again.

Since the rose bloomed true to variety in the first season, the most likely explanation is either a rare genetic mutation or—accidentally—more than one plant being rooted in the container. Unfortunately, with two full growing seasons having passed, we’re unable to confirm exactly what happened or identify the current bloom with certainty based on a photo alone.

They shipped me two rose bushes with…

They shipped me two rose bushes with rose rosettes disease and refused to honor the warranty in a reply from the company on April 5, 2025 after I contacted them on April 4, 2025. Update 4/9/25 = The company rep has since become combative - insisting that I did not give them time to reply even though my reviews were posted on April 5, 2025 after their first reply on April 5, 2025. They stated before honoring the warranty, they want me to remove this review from trustpilot. I told them no and that I would not update any review until they honored their warranty on their end. I have never had a company make such a demand before. I will be on edge for the next 9 months watching to see if my other 12 rose bushes were contaminated from the diseased bushes sent from Heirloom Roses. So far, there are no signs on my existing bushes but the incubation period is long. 2 rose bushes from COSTCO have been planted to replace the heirloom diseased bushes. The Costco ones look great so far. You can see from their reply to this post how they do business with consumers. I hope my review is helpful to others looking to make a purchase with the company. I would be hesitant to accept any replacement from this company due to the risk they have brought to my yard. My whole rose garden might be wiped out because of their negligence.

RRD is a viral disease spread by a windborne mite and can be introduced into any landscape by insects, tools, or even clothing. Our roses undergo rigorous health and safety protocols—including viral indexing, integrated pest management, and regular inspections by the Oregon Department of Agriculture. We do not have RRD in our fields, and all roses are shipped disease-free.

As stated in our Guarantee, we do not cover losses caused by pests. However, in good faith, we previously extended a courtesy replacement outside of our warranty terms to support you.

We also want to clarify that your review was posted before our team had the opportunity to respond to your weekend survey submission. We replied during regular business hours on the next available day.

We have made every reasonable effort to assist and provide resolution. At this time, we will not be offering anything outside of our standard warranty policy.

I received these today and one seems to be thriving and the other not so. Reached out to them with the desire to exchange. That doesn’t seem to be an option with this company. First and last purchase. Moving on to another company.

Buyer beware

$60 rose purchase was wasted. I received a bare-root rose barely 4 inches high. Fertilized weekly and watered daily. It never got taller than 12 inches in 4 months and succumbed to numerous pests etc. For comparison- I have 15 other bushes in the same location thar grew 4-5 ft in the same time period with fabulous blooms. Some were even Walmart $15 roses. Heirloom refused to refund my money despite their "warranty"

In addition, it appears that over-fertilizing and daily watering may have contributed to the rose’s stunted growth, as these practices can stress the plant. Our warranty does not cover damage caused by pests, including the mite that spreads rose rosette disease, which is what was determined in this case.

Fake WARRANTY …

I bought 2 roses over a year ago from Heirloom directly after seeing them advertised on Costco .
Before purchasing I called Heirloom to seek advice about the kind of roses suited to my location as well as ones that will thrive in an oversized planter. Followed all their advice in caring for the roses . However I have yet to see a SINGLE rose on either bush . 😔😔
Fast forward I filed a warranty claim with them , need less to say all I heard was bunch of excuses and denials and refusals . WARRANTY is fake and non existent . They refuse to acknowledge that the plants they sold and suggested were not correct or of good quality.
I sent pictures to them showing plants are green but not a single flower 🌺 infact I never seen one so far . 😔
My advice
Save your money and buy from local Box store or Nursery that way if you have issue it’s easy to return your purchase .

Thank you for sending over photos of your roses. We do offer a one year conditional warranty for roses that do not survive the first year. The new growth and lush foliage in the photos is a great sign that they are establishing themselves well. We did recommend using a different type of fertilizer in the first year, but they are still growing vigorously! Climbing roses often focus on building strong roots and canes in the first year, so they may not bloom in the first season. With with a bit of patience, you'll see that as your roses mature, the blooms will become more abundant. You're on the right track, and we are confident your rose will reward you beautifully in the seasons to come!

One Star from Disappointed Long-Time Custome

I have been a loyal customer of Heirloom Roses (HR) for several years and have recommended many friends and families to buy roses from HR. Over the years, I have enjoyed their products and services. However, my recent experience has been quite disappointing.
In 2023, I purchased twenty-one roses from HR with a few orders. Unfortunately, only four of them didn’t survive. This had never happened before. Given that these plants were under a one-year warranty, I signed a few warranty forms expecting a straightforward resolution. However, for one of the four rose plants, they said that "the rose does not qualify for our Guarantee as the one-year warranty period has passed." The expiration date of May 7th, 2024, unfortunately fell during a period when I was out of the country, and I made my request only 14 days late. Fair enough. But the other three claims were not satisfied either.
Instead, I received a few emails outlining a convoluted process:
1. Refund credits only.
2. The credits are not automatically applied to my account.
3. I need to place a new order first.
4.Then, I must email or call them to redeem the credits.
This process is unnecessarily complicated and has deterred me from making further purchases. Essentially, if I don't place another order within 90 days of the refund being issued, I lose the refund credits entirely. This completely defeats the purpose of a warranty, which should ensure that the customer doesn't lose money on their purchase.
Furthermore, the treatment I have received as a long-term customer reflects poorly on HR's business practices. It suggests a concerning level of greed, as the company fails to honor warranties in a straightforward manner. Additionally, the plants I bought last year were noticeably smaller and weaker compared to previous purchases, indicating a decline in product quality.
I am frustrated and angry with this process. As a result, I can no longer recommend HR to anyone. Their warranty policy is a hassle and does not honor the spirit of customer satisfaction. For these reasons, I am giving HR a 1-star rating.
If asked by Trustpilot, I am more than willing to provide a copy of the invoice and the email correspondence about the refund from HR to substantiate my claims.

As we mentioned earlier in our email, our roses are first-year own-root roses, which are typically 12-16 inches high. We don't sell two-year-old roses that arrive three feet tall with blooms and flowers, which is what you told our agent you purchased. We strive to communicate this clearly to our customers and we send everyone who purchases a video showing what expect when your roses arrive. It is also posted on our website.

To ensure our roses retain moisture during transit, we defoliate them before shipping. Once you plant them, they should start growing new leaves within a few weeks, and you can look forward to seeing blooms this summer.

Healthy, good size plant, bloomed quickly

Received the roses well packaged with detailed instructions. They are thriving and to my surprise one bloomed today, it has been about a month since I planted them. The bloom is small and not fragrant, but it is beautiful. I think as it establishes itself the blooms may increase in size and fragrance, but if not it’s beauty makes up for it.

Very low quality roses ..like little…

Very low quality roses ..like little sticks that will take years to develop if you’re lucky enough to live in a mild climate. Refunds resisted even after they acknowledged quality issue. Do not order frm.. use David Austin Roses..no comparison. I am a professional gardener and to raise these I would need to be a scientist.

I have only had good luck with one out…

I have only had good luck with one out of seven roses I have ordered from Heirloom Roses since 1915, and have lost more than that in the past 40 years. I don't know what the problem is. I live in Dayton Ohio. I plant in good soil with compost, water and prune properly. I don't think they are meant to grow in this climate. I won't buy from them, I've thrown away too much money. Dates of experience have been as stated above
