Terrible toaster!

Terrible toaster!
We wanted to get a Dualit for so long because it has a really cute design + they claim to be the most durable and long lasting toaster.
Unfortunately it's the worst toaster because it can not toast. One side of the bread is burnt while the other side it uncooked. It consistantly terrible. I just want to get rid of it, but unfortunately it cost a fortune for a toaster.

Just paying for the brand name

I bought a Dualit dome kettle 5 years ago from a reputable retailer offering extra warranty. The kettle and stand is very robust and it looks impressive. I thought seriously about its extortionate price but always believe ‘you get what you pay for’. This is definitely not the case where Dualit kettles are concerned. Four months ago the kettle developed a problem with the light. It kept turning off when the switch was down. The only way to keep the kettle boiling was to swivel it around on the stand until the light remained on - very temperamental. It has eventually now died a death. I expected to have had
at least 10 years service from it. Our model is unrepairable, according to Dualit, not that I was prepared to pay a further £58.00 to have that done. I notice from other Dualit reviews, some customers have experienced the same fault. My Husband and I work full time so the kettle has only been used on an evening and weekends. I have always looked after it and carefully descaled it regularly. I refuse to be considered ‘unlucky’ with my purchase. I am more upset that the kettle has now got to be put out for the bin man to collect.
Anyway, I will not be buying anything else from Dualit and would not recommend them. I have replaced the inferior kettle now, to a trusted make which I know will last just as long and costs a fraction of the price of a Dualit.

Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding your five year old Dualit Dome kettle. Sadly, this model cannot be repaired. The £58 fee mentioned only applies to the repair of a Classic model kettle. Another unhappy customer

Another unhappy customer, who bought into the hype and past-reputation of Dualit, only to discover it's another 'enshittified' brand where they are now making products as disposable as any other Chinese producer, with durability apparently designed to last just beyond its statutory guarantee period. Shame on them. Won't get fooled again. I'm off to get a twenty quid replacement kettle.

Premium priced products need to have long reliable life

Sorry Dualit I cannot now provide a five star review for your customer services. This might be misleading for concerns about reliability of premium products and very expensive repair costs,

Even if Dualit are able to repair a faulty product it seems that the cost of repair could exceed the new cost of a similar product from a competitor

I did not immediately throw away an expensive eight year old Duralit toaster that is listed by them as a non-repairable item.

Through a Google search I established that failure of the operating handle to stay down was covered by several videos.

After removal of the outer cover was able to complete a thorough cleaning on the inside and found a few loose crumbs.

Discovered that the reason for failure seemed to be that the small plastic lip of one part of the mechanism was no longer able to lock onto the controlling latch,

That latch is operating electronically but, with mains disconnected, could be tested to show this plastic type component was the cause of the product failure.

Dualit seemed to selling the same or similar model as refurbished despite it allegedly being not repairable.

It is possible, regardless of price, that similar imported components are installed in different brands of toaster,

The reason that this is a five star and not a two star review is the excellent Dualit customer service who noted my concerns.

These were that every new product involves a carbon footprint to make and distribute and then for premature disposal.

Pleased to see that Dualit are, as a premium price, promoting a Classic toaster that is repairable!

When our back up toaster of a different make to Dualit fails it would be an incentive to consider the Classic if the essential operating components were made in the UK by reputable contractors rather than buying possibly cheaper bits from abroad!

If breakdowns are rare Dualit should be able within their premium prices be able to offer reasonably priced repairs,

We are a little confused as to what rating the review is actually supposed to be as you have posted 1 star but go on to mention in the review both 5 stars and 2 stars in relation to your dealings with Customer Services.

Regarding your comment about refurbished items; In the case of refurbishing a product that we would normally deem to be irreparable, the product is checked to see that it is fully functional, electrically & practically safe and clean. No internal components are replaced.

Dubious claims for longevity

Wish we had read reviews on here about kettle quality before spending the extra. Paid the premium price for a Classic Matt Black kettle due to its element repairability and claim that it offers ‘long-lasting performance’. 18 months in and the switch won’t stay down. Seems from searches online to be a known issue. Dualit offer is for us to pay for recorded delivery to send it to them, that a repair could take up to 21 working days and that if they find a fault they estimate it will be £58.09 for repair, labour and return carriage. This is over a third of the cost of the kettle, totally impractical and rather suggests they know too well what the problem might be. It makes their claims about longevity pretty dubious and we won’t buy from them again.

We can confirm that a repair of a Classic kettle would be a cost of £58.09 including parts, labour and return carriage. This is roughly a third of the cost of a new one.

Dualit employ a considerable amount of time and effort designing our products and ensure that we always use quality materials. Despite our best efforts, yes, some issues may develop in some products over a period of time.

We keep a close eye on the reported faults. If we see any spikes or trends in faults, then we would act accordingly. There are thousands of Classic kettles in use 'out there' currently and we have not seen this particular fault in any numbers that would give us cause for concern.

"Repairable" in marketing, not in reality

UPDATE - In response to their reply
A non-toxic basic surface spray that was cleaned off, yet the aluminium (which is a poor material pick) gets stained as it isn't coated.

Saying you care about repairability but only allow yourself to do it (at extortionate price in warranty) rather than qualified electricians and customers to do with as they wish as they own the product is insulting. They're not replaceable if only you can do the work and charge an extortionate price! That would be like BMW saying you can only get your car fixed if you bring it to us and charge us 50% of the total value of the car.

Having being loyal to this brand in the family since I was little, I will be staying well away from Dualit and advise everyone does the same.

I bought a Dualit Classic toaster following being loyal to them over the year growing up with them as part of our family. I got the kettle first and then the toaster. I always respected Dualit due to the brand's reputation for quality, longevity and repairability. Unfortunately, my experience has been the opposite.

Within weeks of ownership, blue staining started appearing on the end panels. After contacting Dualit, I was told the centre section is stainless steel but the end castings are aluminium and may react to cleaning products. The cleaner I use is a mild, non-abrasive eco-friendly surface spray that causes no issues on any other appliance in my kitchen.

What disappointed me most was Dualit's response. Despite the issue appearing almost immediately after purchase, I was told it wasn't covered and that replacing the affected panels would cost around £84. Even more surprisingly, customers cannot buy the replacement parts directly – the toaster has to be sent back to Dualit for fitting.

For a company that heavily promotes repairability and products built to last, refusing to sell cosmetic replacement parts directly feels completely at odds with that message. If a simple panel replacement requires a factory repair, then "repairable" seems to mean repairable only on Dualit's terms.

Customer service was polite throughout, but politeness doesn't solve the underlying issue. A premium toaster shouldn't show cosmetic deterioration from normal household use within weeks, and customers shouldn't be facing an £84 bill for a £160 product to correct it.

The toaster itself works relatively well, but for a product marketed as a lifelong kitchen investment, the material choice and after-sales support have been a real disappointment.

Thank you for your enquiry. We are sorry to hear that your Classic toaster has experienced this issue with the damage to the finish on the end castings. What appears to have happened is that, during the course of cleaning your kitchen surface, the cleaning product you were using was accidentally sprayed onto the aluminium castings. As this was not realised at the time, the cleaning product has remained on the surface and tainted the finish. The cleaning instructions for this product specifically state to clean the aluminium castings with a damp cloth and not to use chemical cleaners. Although this was not intentional and done accidentally, this damage is not covered by the warranty.

The Classic toaster is fully repairable and the aluminium castings are replaceable. As they constitute part of the 'chassis' of the toaster as well as having electrical components & wiring connected to them, it is not a simple fix. A complete disassembly of the toaster is required and that is something that can only be done safely by a trained Dualit repairs engineer.

Overpriced and poorly built

Bought a Dualit Architect kettle/4-slice toaster in November 2025. Reasonably satisfied with them, although the kettle is extremely noisy and the toaster doesn't toast evenly.
Within a couple of months we noticed that the body of the kettle was tarnishing, and no longer matched the toaster, or the decor panels on the kettle. Raised the issue with the retailer, who was most unhelpful, then with Dualit themselves. The colour difference was difficult to photograph, but eventually Dualit acknowledged that continual heating of the kettle may result in a bloom appearing due to oxidisation. IT'S A KETTLE! It's supposed to heat up, that's what it's designed to do.
Now it's six months old, and the lid release latch seems to be failing. Two hundred quid for a piece of junk that we wish we'd never bought. Once this fails (which I'm sure it will do fairly soon) were going for a cheap plastic set.

Unbelievably good customer service.

Unbelievably good customer service.
Bought a Classic Duralit Kettle back in 2018. The glass windows had recently cracked but not leaked.
Phoned Duralit who asked me to send it in, and just pay for the inbound postage. The repair would be FOC.
Kettle came back 9 days later, repaired, cleaned and polished.
Just don't get customer service like that very often, superb.

Dualit Architect 4 slot toaster

Dualit Architect 4 slot toaster. Uneven toasting, brown on one side and white on the other. Thought it was a faulty machine, so returned it and received a replacement. Same issue, so it's going back tomorrow.
I have a Dualit kettle which is excellent, but this toaster fails big time.

On this model toaster, the slots cannot be set to work independently of each other. There are two ejector levers; one operates the 2 slots on the left and the other operates the 2 slots on the right. 
If you are toasting either 1 or 3 slices of bread in this toaster, this means that there will be an empty active slot with nothing in it to absorb the heat generated. Most of the heat will be lost but some of it will be absorbed by the bread in the adjacent slot leading to uneven toasting. We call this heat transfer. This can only be avoided by toasting either 2 or 4 slices which would mean that there would be no empty, but active, slots.

Amazing customer service experience

Amazing customer service experience. I emailed with regards to obtaining a part number for a milk frother cover. Steph got back to me quickly via email and was an amazing help by providing me with the diagram, product name and part number. They informed me to contact customer support to place the order. I gave them a call and I was delighted to have a call with Sally who was super helpful and made the whole interaction stress free and my part has now been order. Thank you so much Steph and sally. Customer service that is this simple and stress free is very hard to come across in this day and age, so many times we forget the personal interaction engage customers and enable a more helpful service over chat bots and I’m so delighted this company has not transitioned to a bot styled service. Take care both 😊

Poor quality product

The most we have ever spent on a kettle but we decided to invest in what we thought was a respected brand. After only 2 years of light usage the kettle has stopped functioning properly. It switches itself off constantly and does not reach boiling point.
It would appear this is a common fault but Dualit it appears have done nothing to fix it or to offer customers a replacement or repair for a known issue.

Outstanding customer service

We had reason to contact customer service concerning the (fabulous) hot chocolate maker and milk frother. Emma was warm, professional and listened carefully. She suggested next steps and subsequently solved our issue. We're very pleased and impressed by the calibre of customer service we received. Highly recommended. We will be buying more Dualit products.

Reservedele -Ikke muligt at købe nye flade piskeris til håndmikser.

Har fået en sort Dualit håndmikser i gave. De flade piskeris er imidlertid gået i stykker efter ca. 2,5 år - fejl løs lodning eller lignende. Jeg har forsøgt at finde reservedele. De findes på KitchenOne's hjemmeside til ca 268,- kr, men de er udsolgt - de forventer, at de kommer til en bestemt dato - datoen flyttes frem ca. hver 14 dag. De er ikke kommet endnu - situationen er uholdbar. Vi har ikke kunnet undvære en håndmikser, hvorfor vi nu har købt en Bosch. Så vi ligger inde med den fineste håndmikser, men den kan kun bruges til dejkroge. Vi har forsøgt at skrive - først til UK - der venligt henviste til en emailadresse i Sverige, hvor de ikke var særlig venlige. De henviste til et sted, hvor prisen over 600, - kr. Så kunne jeg købe ny i et andet mærke.

AVOID

After having my bean to go coffee machine for less the a year and the steam wand wasn’t steaming and getting hot I returned it with difficulty and paid to have a new part inside that was Apparantly lime scaled inside the machine . (Even though I descale regularly )

Again it’s doing the same thing , I have hardly used it since the last time as been working away and exactly the same problem .

Waste of money buying expensive machines to be told it’s my water that’s to hard for the machine ! Don’t sell the the to people in hard water areas knowing they are wasting their money .

So annoyed as the machine wasn’t cheap and I had a silly £50 one for about 5 years that threw away just to get this one (yet that one didn’t get limescaled from within ) strange !!!’

I was using this machine several times daily ! Using the Oscar bag ! Using Kilrock descaled every 6 weeks and this still happened

I also spoke to your advisor and received by message that it didn’t matter how many time I descaled it as it was inevitable that this was going to happen as she looked up my postcode and said the water in the area would cause damage to the machine no matter what I did.

Our manuals contain guidance on water hardness and instructions on how often descaling should be carried out, depending on the water hardness of your area. It is therefore down to the user to determine how often they should descale the machine. If the machine is not going to be used for a period of time then it should be purged of water using the Empty System function, preventing the risk of limescale build up. A coffee machine can function fine in a hard water area as long as the cleaning & maintenance is carried out in accordance with the guidelines provided. We needed a new part for our Classic…

We needed a new part for our Classic kettle and Denise in customer support sent out the part which I received the following day. I was chuffed with the service. The part was easy to change.
The beauty of the Dualit products that we have bought are repairable, prolonging the life of the products in this terrible age of throwing things away.

Poor service

I purchased a Dualit kettle a few years ago. It lasted just about the warranty period before failing and they reluctantly repaired it. It has now failed again and been returned for repair but two weeks after posting, I have heard nothing. I phoned customer service this morning and was told that they do not advise receipt of items but will e mail when they have inspected it, probably about another two weeks. The products are overpriced, poor quality and the customer service is terrible.

It is true that we do not acknowledge receipt of items and the first you will hear from us is once the inspection has been completed. We quote a standard turnaround period of 21 working days. We say working days as we are not present on weekends or bank holidays. We can see that your kettle was booked into our repairs department on the 30th of March. love the product just a shame about the repair service !

I bought Dualit because it was made in the uk and I could have it repaired or as I thought get the spares to repair it myself. The element went in the kettle so I went on the website only to find I couldn't buy a replacement element. When I called it was explained that I had to send it in for repair and that this could take 6 weeks to get an estimate and then action a repair. I sent the kettle off and am still waiting for it to come back some 6 weeks later. What a shame, why not deliver on this I don't mind that there is a charge in my case £58 but why not make it a slick service that makes it simple fast and usable most people would have bought another kettle rather than wait this long. Im sure a lot of people are sold on the company for this very reason why not just make this a great service to be proud of. They probably make more out of a repair than a new kettle anyway and it could really be a point of differentiation against the throw away society we now live in.

Thank you for your feedback. We quote a standard turnaround period of 21 working days so we're not sure where the six weeks came from. We say working days as we are not present on weekends or bank holidays. Looking into this case, we can see that your kettle was booked into our repairs department on the 12th of March. You were contacted with the quote for repair on the 30th, which you duly paid. We can confirm that the repairs have been completed and your kettle is due to be dispatched from the warehouse today.
