Horrible company. They incorrectly filed our returns causing us to owe thousands more than we should have (resolved by our current and new cpa). Also, Tanya, the cpa we were assigned was an extremely rude and arrogant person to work with, and that is putting it lightly. I do not recommend, please beware. We almost lost our house due to mistakes made by Tanya at BDO. After doing some research we have found a great company, albeit out of town, but absolutely worth it.

After a few years of indifferent, wildly expensive tax filing for my wife and I by BDO in Vancouver, I finally switched to a much better, less expensive, more helpful accountant. The crazy fees, the charging for advice, or just not providing any advice, not forwarding communications from CRA, long periods of ignored emails leading to delayed filing, I could go on even from here, but not worth my time. Avoid at all costs

I have been a BDO client for over fifty years here in Ontario. Now that they are a large international firm I have no use for them. They messed up our tax filings for two years in a row and have refused to take responsibility for it. They did childish things like not answering our calls and when specific errors were pointed out they didn't even reply. I reported them to CPA but that was a waste of time. Typically these so-called regulatory groups are just apologists and protectors of their members unless it is a hugely obvious issue. In future,if I had an issue with BDO or with any other outfit like them I would seek relief from the court. These big ,international firms as far as I can see are set up to kite money around from country to country to avoid paying taxes.

Samora from the belleville office was fantastic. She assisted me with my consumer proposal. She helped ease the situation and helped me understand what is going to happen and how it’s going to happen. I would recommend a visit to the belleville office if you ever become embroiled in financial difficulties and are in need of assistance, all around very friendly and supportive experience.

I spoke with Cathy Morris out of the Annapolis Valley NS office and she was of no help. Her advice was 2 things
1) You have equity in your home so bankrupcy is not an option.
2) Move to the US and rent your home
Would not recommend her at all.
My wife is dying of cancer and because of out of pocket expense it has made us financially vulnerable. She said "you should move to states as they have better Healthcare.
Really of no help whatsoever.

We engaged BDO Tax & Accounting Services in Halifax for our small business. They were kind of cunning. For once, we were mislead about their fees and fee structure. They charged a 'CFO' fee, when rather straightforward accounting skills would have sufficed. We also missed their small print. Each service incurred an additional 7% technology & admin fee - and they are not cheap to begin with. We only got to talk to the tax accountant once (online) - everything else was handled through another person, an approch that did not facilitate good communication. Maybe all that would have been ok if the result had been satisfactory, i.e. we would have had good service and smart advice. However, they just ran their little cookie cutter on our books, with no regard and interest for and in our business and specific requirements. I was rarely this frustrated with a service provider.

Taking responsibility for my accounts payable has taken me finally to where I can feel good about how I manage my life financially again.

Virginia, Anne and everyone at BDO in Belleville, Ontario set the stage for me to comfortably, steadily chip away until now after 3+ years (instead of five) my consumer proposal is closing.

This requires hard work and discipline, and a good organization to set you up for success. The people at BDO will do this. At the beginning it can be a lot to look at, but we can do just that, like anything worthwhile - it's not easy. Do the next right thing!
