I am a person who relies on reviews to help me make informed decisions. When I do write a review, it is because it is deserved. We can be quick to criticize and slow to give credit where credit is due (gosh, could I have chosen better words for what I am reviewing lol – it’s ok to smile even after or during tough times. There was an old saying, older than me (and I’m 71), that you have likely heard, but a good reminder: “Laughter is good medicine.”

Every financial situation is unique, but when it comes to creditors, we all know the stress that can follow. At 71, I found myself in unfamiliar and troubling waters, unsure of what to expect or where to turn. I felt that since I chose to borrow money or use credit, I am responsible to pay that amount back, but the interest…the interest was doing me in.
I could not keep up the interest on my pension. I did not want bankruptcy, so I chose insolvency – entering into waters unchartered on any of my maps. I had no idea what to expect.

It was the reviews for David Sklar & Assoc. that moved me to initiate that first phone call. From the very beginning, each person worked as a true team: friendly professionals, with each person taking the quality time and effort to make me feel heard, understood and valued. I had the privilege of working with a few team members in what felt like a seamless ‘tag-team’ effort, and their communication and care never faltered. Even the receptionist went out of her way when a voicemail seemed missed or avoided.

Little did I know that the entire office was in the midst of a major physical move, so things were slightly backlogged, but never was I pushed aside or made to feel ‘less than’. I felt like someone important, and that stayed from the beginning until the signing of documents (when things were finalized). It was a humbling, yet gratifying experience.

Walking into the process, I was completely green: procedures, protocol, timelines, I knew nothing of what to expect or how things would carry out. Everything was done precisely, to the point, unbiased, explanations along the way given for every nervous question I had. Transparency, non-judgmental attitudes, dignity, that seems to be a main focus, whilst protecting whatever assets I had (which was pretty much nil, but a vehicle).

It felt awkward approaching unknown, overwhelming waves of debt. The team helped me to navigate through those uncertain, seemingly turbulent waters. Although no one there was named Moses [at least, not that I met], they helped me navigate along a clear path… away from the land where creditors held me captive by debt, through a straight path where nothing bogged me down (no debt-like mud slowing me down), where not even ‘one’ snapping turtle (creditor) nipped at my heels.

Most of us never intend to walk away from our obligations, but sometimes life pans out differently than we had hoped or anticipated. It can happen to the best in this unpredictable world. Sometimes we find ourselves in a place where we simply need help finding the right path forward. That is exactly what this team provides.

In short, you can expect to be treated fairly, with honesty, dignity, and respect. Their expertise, compassion, and clear communication will guide you through the process and help you regain your footing. I am truly grateful to David Sklar & Associates and their licensed trustees for helping me through a very difficult time. They allowed me to maintain my integrity and dignity, while handling creditors with professionalism and transparency that led to real resolution. Yes, I am truly grateful, and this review is as straight-shooting as I can be.

I would definitely recommend David sklar. I was embarrassed going into the first meeting with financial hardships but was quickly reassured by Jackie. She put my mind at ease right away and was very knowledgeable. Thanks to Jackie and the team I feel a ton of weight off my shoulders and I feel like our family can now look forward to a brighter future.
