Worst bank experience EVER
I am putting one star because that is the lowest rate I can put.
I am trying to change my postal address since 4 MONTHS. Just that, but it still seems too complicated for them.
Also don't fall for their "online bank" stuffs. Obviously everything goes online when it's about opening your account, but they will ask you to come in person to close your account. I asked them if we could find a solution since I left Portugal, and they told me I could send a letter but I had to go to a notary for my signature to be certified. That's quite funny since they did not even bother to aks my signature when I took an health insurance with them. Writing a simple email was perfectly fine at the time.
I don't know how to pu it differently: I highly regret choosing them.
Poor bureaucratic service regardless of their marketing promises as an 'innovative bank'
This bank is predominantly an online bank with a limited amount of branches, what this means is that if you do need to go into a branch you will face long queues and slow service. The concept behind Activo Bank is that it's a low fee and apparently an innovative bank offering modern services, this is not the case. Banks in Portugal offer very poor and bureaucratic service and Activo is no exception. I recently complained about some fees incurred on my card and got the same level of customer service that I would get from any other bank, first response is always no and can't help you, on taking the matter further I was then subjected to a 10 minute lecture from one of their staff about his 30 year international banking career and how overseas banks offer even worse service than Activo. How anyone in a customer service would think this is an appropriate way to manage the complaint of a customer is beyond me, however this is apparently normal and acceptable in Portugal. The customer is never right and the inferiority complexes that staff here suffer from cause them to be rude and offensive towards clients in order to protect their precious egos. This might be okay for people who are used to this level of service but if you are a foreigner and know better and expect better you will be disappointed by Activo Bank. Therefore if you choose to bank with them please consider what is important to you and what your expectations are from your bank. Whilst you may not pay bank fees with Activo you will get rude and incompetent service and any formal complaints will be largely ignored even if you lodge it via the livro de reclamações because banks are untouchable in this country and the bank of Portugal won't find fault with the incompetent service you receive and does nothing to protect the rights of customers.
Customer experience + wire transfer is horrible
Customer experience is horrible, wire transfer are blocked for any silly reason you can imagine, waiting time in calls is never ending to tell you at the end they have not solution for you case, so on and so forth.

Faço quase tudo o que preciso pelo site do Banco ou pela app que está bastante boa. As poucas vezes que preciso de recorrer ao contacto telefónico é para situações fora do comum. Por exemplo precisei de uma declaração do banco para anexar ao IRS. No dia seguinte já me estavam a enviar a declaração por mail. Sempre me atendeu um gestor de contacto com conhecimentos e nunca fiquei pendurado à espera de um contacto. Aliás, ocasionalmente tem a iniciativa de me contactar para saber se está tudo bem ou para alguma sugestão.

Aller, j'ajoute ma contribution au 70% de mauvais avis... Pour faire simple, je travail à Porto et j'avais besoin d'ouvrir un compte au Portugal pour recevoir mon salaire. Ils sont tout simplement refusé parce que, étant français, je parle pas portugais et un anglais très basique.. ils ont refusé que mon amie (portugaise) vienne avec moi pour m'aider dans la traduction.
C'est le première fois qu'on me demande de parler une langue pour ouvrir un compte bancaire..
Et je parle même pas de l'accueil désagréable...

Online bank where you can't open an account online. Even with a residence permit you need to visit the branch. I visited a branch in Saldanha - Lisbon. Warning: You need to scan a QR code for getting your waiting number (internet connection required or you can do it via sms). Was waiting 2,5 hours even when I was there before opening hour. They say opening your account take 30 minutes. After 2 hours they stopped taking new customers for account opening because it was full for this day already. Before 12am... When I got inside, I was treated with disrespect. The staff was extremely stressed out. Only 2 people could go inside. In the end I was told that I need to show employment contract. This is the worst burreucratic thing ever! If you are not employed in Portugal, you have a very big problem. They don't accept foreign language documents. You need to pay for authorised translator. This is incredible. After this he told me to come again. But he deleted all information so the next time I will have to show him all documents again, all paperwork again. I can't believe this bank is considered as the best in Portugal for expats. How other banks look like I don't wanna know.

It's obvious for a "normal"person that is scrolling down these reviews, to realise that all the "bad experiences" are written in english... strange...
So, if you are Portuguese, like me, and you're searching these rates to see why the poor ratings i only have to say excellent things from my personal experience.
Never had a problem with the ActivoBank, and including I've canceled my account in Montepio to change to Activobank.
If you don't need a bank with physical departments, and you're searching a solid digital bank with a solid backup (Millenium BCP) this is your solution.

Pior banco que já conheci, não tem respeito algo pelo o cliente, uma dificuldade para se tirar um empréstimo pessoal. Não adianta você faz pelo app, nem pessoalmente. Você envia toda a documentação solicitada e eles se quer te respondem se sim ou não. Tentei um empréstimo dia 9 e ate hoje , já liguei mais de 5 vezes e ninguém sabe informar nada. Sou cliente a mais de 3 anos da agência do Vasco da Gama, Vou mudar de banco que é melhor , eles não são os únicos do mundo.

Inacreditavel - o tempo de espera para ser atendido neste banco é INACREDITAVEL. E para aqueles que pensem, "oh, teve uma má experiência " , nao.. eu visitei-os 6 vezes (até agora) em duas sucursais diferentes (Oeiras e Cascais) e é irrisório. Entre o minimo de 40minutos e um maximo de 1:15h á espera. E voces pensam " ah, devia ter muita gente" , enganem.se em todas as vezes eu era ou o numero a seguir ou 2 atras. Estou neste momento á espera á já 30 minutos... ha 2 bancas visivelmente abertas, uma está sem clientes á 20 minutos, ( está a tratar de outro assunto no computador, eu pensei que o balcao fosse para atendimento ao publico, nao para tratar de assuntos administrativos ) o outro ainda tem o mesmo cliente desde que cheguei.... Se nao fosse eu estar abrir a conta em nome de outro, Nem pensar em abrir conta neste banco, se para abrir co ta é preciso isto, eu nao quero imaginar para tratar de problemas.

Nunca consegui falar com nenhum assistente em nenhum dos numeros de contacto que o site disponibiliza.
Tentei 2 vezes, durante 30 min em espera, e nunca consegui chegar a um assistente. Acabo sempre por desistir e desligar sem conseguir tratar dos assuntos pretendidos.

Customer support is amazing: Every time I call I get a complete and quick answer to my questions.
They have the best digital resources. Their APP is super powerful and easy to use.
They are also one of the, if not the, cheapest bank in Portugal.
On top of this their offices close at 20h, which is a leading feature with the rest closing at 15h/16h.
Yes, they do not have a lot of offices, but most in-person-operation can be done in a BCP office, of which there are plenty around.
Highly recommended.

I have very terrible experience. I have lost my debit card in april. I have called 8th april for my new debig card. Onwards, i have called so many times but till now i don't get any post from this bank. After that, i want to close my account and the answer is i have to go bank to close my account but i can't go because I live so far away from lisbon. Very bad services. Worst experience
