I thought LAYA were bad but VHI are…
I thought LAYA were bad but VHI are atrocious. For example, app (which I had to reinstall just to login) asked for a 6 digit auth code that they sent. They sent a 5 digit code!! When you finally get to the submission of expenses the app usually falls over. Then they usually reject the claim, the last time because there was no doctor's name on the receipt even though the receipt was letter headed with the practice details. Shocking company.
Pleasant staff, great service!
Pleasant staff, great service, so efficient in handling my care needs. Doctor Marijke was efficient in organising my hospital care. Saw to my needs in a short space of time. Vhi and the insurance was well worth every cent. So grateful to them for helping me in my time of need.
Not recommended!
Paying for 2years. Just filed my first claim after 2 years and says GP consultation is not covered. Only an actual specialist is. Paying large amount for 2 years. I wanted to close my account because it was useless but I was advised to call again to have the policy cancelled on Feb. Money grubbing company. Don't ever avail of their services! Never would I recommend them!!!!
Woeful App/login set up /Trying to access claims portal message
I have spent the last 40 mins between VHI Main app which i can access and VHI claims portal which i cannot access(On pc AND mobile ) i also tried to register on the claims portal and i get message unable to locate your dental policy with the member number provided,
App is not recognizing my membership number paid through my employer
Very disappointing experience…
I had a very disappointing experience with VHI. Their services are inefficient, and their dental claim system is poorly managed. I encountered numerous difficulties when trying to file a claim, my claim was rejected several times due to their issues, and the process was time-consuming. Overall, their lack of responsiveness and ineffective systems made dealing with them a frustrating experience.
Auto renewal policy is a scam
Their Auto renewal policy is a scam. You buy a policy and they take an inflated renewal directly from your account 12 months later. They don't allow you to delete your account info or block the renewal and give you very little time to stop it happening. Avoid.
Atrocious Company
Atrocious money grubbing company. Will take your money even when you tell them you're not renewing well in advance of the renewal date and then tell you it will take 6 to 10 weeks to issue a refund back to your account.
A multi million euro business taking nearly 2 months + to issue a refund is not acceptable in this day and age. Its just greed to hold onto peoples money for so long. I could transfer money into someones account in one day but they want you to believe this is beyond them.
Friendly, efficient experience at Carrickmines 360 clinic
I am writing this review approximately 1 month after first consultation with a doctor at Carrickmines. Within this time I have seen a nurse, a doctor, a sports consultant and had an MRI. Everyone was very helpful and on 3 visits there I did not have to wait around very long. I had queries which were always passed on and addressed. For my first visit to the walk in clinic I went in the morning and it was hardly busy at all. The other two visits were appointments. All in all within a month I have been seen regularly and been diagnosed and referred onto a specialist elsewhere. I am happily surprised at how friendly, efficient and seamless the whole process was as I was a bit apprehensive after reading other negative experiences. Big thumbs up from me.

Fantastic experience
Astounded by the poor rating. My experience has been excellent over the past 5 years. Particularly the snap and send claims feature which is easy and really quick. I regularly get my GP, consultant, counselling and dietican claims confirmed in 2 working days. I really appreciate how much effort VHI have put into the online/self-service portal. I dearly wish other service providers would take note and up their game. Every time needed to change plan, always give me good decent advise. When have needed surgery, paid for it in a hospital not normally fully covered in cos was medically necessary due to BMI and thus would be healthier needing less treatments overall; costing them less. Only had pay the excess which I was very grateful for and really appreciated. Every MRI I have needed they have paid directly to the centre, no problems. I have been with VHI since I was a child, have never had a problem with their service. They tell you in table of benefits what is and what isn't covered and where which I much appreciate. Tells you in black and white on insurance plans in all companies that pre-existing conditions not covered for a 1 or 2 depending on the condition. So really don't understand all the negativity. I work in healthcare myself and the other companies aren't any better!
VHI has my mother on a very old legacy…
VHI has my mother on a very old legacy plan with high fee to see a consultant even though she was paying over 1500 euro per year for it.
When i found out she after she got ill and was being charged hundreds of euro i rang and queried it and was met with a whole load of spoof from the lady who answered. I literally could not get a straight answer from her. I looked online and was met with a huge array of plans completely unclear again.
I asked about corporate plans and was told no, even though i went online and apparently they are available as well. Just an exercise in frustration and i believe VHI are really some sort of scam organisation.
My mother had being paying close to the top plan all her life and all we got were lies and confusion about the correct plan for her. My mother eventually told me to stop ringing she was sick and its not worth it. DISGRACEFUL VHI, she died not long after after being on a bad old plan with no advice on what to do. Just SPOOF and yes LIES. Unreal company someone needs to investigate their practices.
Phantom cover.
My little girl suffers with very painful sore throats and swollen tonsils and after a recent bout which caused her to miss her school tour today we had a visit to our local GP and had a referral letter sent to Clane to see can we get the tonsils removed. To our utter vexation VHI won't cover her as this is a pre existing condition and she needs to wait another year before she is eligible for cover - but as we have told VHI, we are paying for cover now! VHI is legal gangsterism just like most things today where there is a savage lack of a personal level of empathy. Never mind the soft fuzzy adverts on TV, your just a number, your just a cash flow to this machine, and you will get a minimum back in return as VHI keep moving the goalposts on levels of cover. This isn't the only complaint I have - of all the incidents my family has had, only once ever has VHI covered us. After talking to numerous hospital staff who handle situations like ours we are told this is always happening, and looking at the plethora of red star reviews here it looks like we aren't alone. This company is a scam worthy of a documentary, and couldn't care less.

So….. What does Excess mean to you on Insurance Policies?
I know for my Car Insurance if I have an excess of, lets say €300, it means I pay the first €300 of any claim.
VHI HAVE A DIFFERENT MEANING FOR EXCESS.
1. Paid €250 for a Consultation, excess on Policy is €100. So, in the real world I would expect the balance of €150 to be paid by VHI.
2. But NO, on the Policy they pay €60 for Consultation fees. So, ok I won’t get the €150 but I will get €60?
3. No,No,No, NO, this is where VHI has a different meaning for Excess ! It was explained that as I had an excess of €100, the €60 was
Less than this so you get NADA!!!!!!!!!!!!

Inept at best
VHI referred me to a consultant who has put me forward for surgery. VHI have now advised that I am not covered in the hospital the consultant is based in, also my new level of cover will not cater for this hospital for another 2 years. All of this on top of a two week saga looking for my MRI report and a snippy customer care agent on the VHI app. The phone agent was nice but ultimately of no benefit to my situation.
a VHI policy for a year
I bought a policy for a year. When I needed it to be cancelled earlier, they said I can do it only in a year-period at a member’s renewal date.
This means I have to pay for the insurance which I don’t need for 10 months.

I'm a VHI member, I had a back injury that required treatment. I tried to claim through VHI and they did everything they could to not pay out for the procedure, I had contacted them before the treatment, and they made it out that there was a policy misunderstanding and it was my fault. Why did I call before the treatment if I didn't want to claim the insurance? the company is a joke. Needless to say I won't be renewing my policy. What's the point in having insurance if you can't use it. "We're here when you need us" they're slogan couldn't be any further from the truth
The Customer Service at it's Best
The Customer Service I received from Ben over the phone was excellent. His understanding of my query and his follow up was exceptional. I would totally recommend this company on my experience with Ben alone.
The claims app doesn't work
The claims app doesn't work. It's time wasting. I contacted VHI and they get annoyed. Not the first the app didn't work.
Vague table of benefits, any reason not to pay up
They have any excuse not to pay for anything. Spent €370 on scan & consultant fee and I haven't been able to claim €1 back.
Poor app/great team
Vhi claim team is great! However the App is poor. Not reactive, always delayed. Once you have submitted a claim receipt you have no chance to edit or just add a note.
