The best place to change your health, fitness, and your life!
Ultimate Performance Manchester is, by far, the best thing I’ve ever done for my health and fitness.
I have been trying to get ‘in shape’ for the best part of 12 years. More often that not, I’ve failed. That constant cycle of trying, and failing, has led me into a further negative cycle of quitting before completing a training programme, chucking three weeks of good dieting out the window, binge-eating, unsightly weight gain, and the horrible and guilty feeling of letting both myself and my family down.
Training with Ultimate Performance Manchester has completely changed my life, physically and mentally.
I’ve trained in commercial gyms for more than a decade. U.P. is nothing like these gyms, and world’s apart from the personal trainers you see in these commercial gyms, who are usually on their phones and don’t really care about their client’s results, only getting paid.
First of all, in the eight weeks I’ve been training with U.P., I’ve lost 33 pounds and the best part of 8% body fat. It is the strongest, leanest, and fittest I have been in my life. I have more energy to play with my two children. My sex drive has shot up! My confidence has dramatically increased. My productivity and focus at work has increased. Five years of IBS that has plagued my life has changed to nine weeks of normal bowel movements – and if you’ve got IBS, you’ll know what a game-changing that is! Even better, my wife and my kids are noticing all the positive changes to my physique and my personality and that, to me, is absolutely priceless.
None of this would be possible without the training, support, and advice you get from Ultimate Performance. I have been very lucky to be partnered with Nelea, who is an amazing trainer, incredibly patient with my whingeing and complaining, and has taught me more in nine weeks than I’ve learnt in the past 12 years. Her knowledge of how to lift weights correctly, how to perfect your form, how to contract and ‘feel’ the muscles correctly during movements has absolutely blown me away. It has made me a) realise how poorly I’d been lifting all these years and b) made me rediscover my love of weight-lifting.
I’m not going to lie, if you come to U.P. Manchester, you’re going to work hard! There have been sessions where I’ve been on the floor afterwards, and unable to untie my shoelaces afterwards … but you will notice improvements in your stamina and strength with every passing week.
But, it’s more than the gym floor experience (which is fantastic). It’s the support you get off the gym floor. If you have a query about anything, you can speak to your trainer through U.P.’s purpose-built app, pretty much 24/7. Your trainer will give you advice about everything – diet, sleep, supplements, when to increase your calories, when to back off etc I would liken it more to 24/7 rehab/therapy than just a few hours a week of training.
The entire atmosphere at U.P. Manchester makes you feel incredibly welcome. You will get allocated a trainer who is as desperate for you to succeed as you are. You feel genuinely feel like they are with you in every rep. Nelea is my trainer and she’s changed my life, but there is such a good atmosphere on the gym floor that you really feel a community spirit, and that all the trainers are also rooting for you. The Gym Manager, Steve Chambers, is well-known in the press as being ‘Evil Steve’ after training a few soap stars, but he is a genuinely lovely (and devastating handsome) man who cares about each and every client that walks down the U.P. Manchester stairs.
I cannot recommend Ultimate Performance Manchester enough. Of course, it’s not the cheapest service but if you want a cheap service, you get cheap results. If you want to change your life, and your physique, then go to U.P. Manchester. The cost is totally offset by the benefits to your health and well-being.
Ask for Nelea if you can!
Excellent And Professional
Have been training with Kian now at leeds for 3 months . Having previously enjoyed weight training and completing ultra runs I wasn't sure if it was for me . How wrong I was . The dedication, knowledge, professionalism and expertise from Kian has been incredible. I realised I have wasted many years weight training incorrectly and learn something new every session . Gains are exactly where I hoped as you only get out what you put in . Every session is enjoyable but challenging. Kian's knowledge and ability to demonstrate each excercise and motivate is spot on . Amazingly I look forward to each new session and the challenges it brings . I am under no illusion that without Kians professionalism and ability this would not have happened. Hopefully I can keep going for many months to come .
Completely Duped - left with injuries
I got stronger but no where near the claimed 12 week transformation. I believe it might be possible if you have no kids, no job, no social life…in fact no life over than supplementing the UP training sessions with more gym and living on protein shakes…completely not their target audience given the cost! I have always been strict with calorie intake & no alcohol, but the shift to high protein diet left me fatigued, with zero energy to do my daily running. I was also left with a damaged knee and damaged inner ear from over exertion (the later causing vertigo & me to fall over weeks after I then called timeout on training). Overall a complete waste of money, but worse I was encouraged after 43 years of remaining injury free as a regular endurance athlete to push myself to point of failure (“push yourself to failure" is a term they use) & now am doing less exercise and in worse shape then when I started. Just awful! I like the trainers and facilities if this was less extreme. But there is no ways their testimonials are real. Feel completely duped. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.
Left me with a long term injury!
Started the 3 month body transformation at UP Paddington back at the start of November 2023. I made clear to them before starting that I was thoroughly detrained following a 3 month bout of sinusitis. Despite this, it was straight into intense training three times a week.
After about a month, I decided to take a swim after one such session, but was surprised to find I was unable to pull with my left arm. Dismissing this as a minor strain, I continued until we started doing lateral raises and incline bench, which I found to be painful.
At this point I called a halt and sought professional advice. A consultation with a shoulder specialist, followed by an MRI scan, revealed tendinopathy of rotator cuffs and bicep, with fraying of one of the rotator cuff tendons.
Several months of treatment has included physiotherapy, manipulation, shockwave therapy, and hyperbaric oxygen, resulting in an approximately 75% recovery of function. I'm continuing rehab with the hope of a full recovery in the next few months.
UP charged me over £3000 for the privilege of injuring me, and treatment has cost at least as much again!
UP have denied responsibility, saying that I could have sustained the injury out of session (I didn't), and have refused to refund me or to cover subsequent medical costs.
It’s common knowledge that tendons strengthen more slowly than muscles, so that ramping up too quickly is likely to result in injury. However, the ‘experts’ at UP don’t seem to be aware of this!
Beware: UP don’t necessarily know what they’re doing, and the 3 month body transformation is extreme and carries risk of injury!
Incredible Progress in Just 12 Weeks!
I joined UP Canary Wharf, Wood Wharf 12 weeks ago. I had ambitious goals to lose weight, tone up, and improve my running performance. Thanks to my personal trainer Jamie and his expertise and encouragement, I've met these goals and I'm really pleased with my results.
I've lost 7 pounds, my muscles look more toned, and my running pace has improved dramatically. I'm a runner and am training for a marathon. I wanted to increase my running pace and am thrilled that my pace has improved to 7.44/mile from 8.33/mile and my 5k time went from 27 minutes to 23 minutes. Jamie's personalised approach to fitness and nutrition was exactly what I needed to stay motivated and see real progress.
What truly sets Jamie apart is his genuine care and dedication. He tailored every workout to my needs, pushed me to go beyond my limits, and celebrated every milestone with me. The nutritional advice also kept me optimised for every training session.
This journey has been transformative for me. I feel stronger, more confident, and proud of what I've achieved. Thank you Jamie and Ultimate Performance. I will continue setting and achieving new fitness goals, and I couldn’t have done it without your training and support.
If you're looking for a personal trainer who will invest in your success and help you achieve life-changing results, I wholeheartedly recommend Jamie and UP.
Failed Transformation
I started the programme for the 12-week transformation. The reviews seemed pretty good and considering the high price I had very good expectations. Overall, in terms of quality of the services (the app, the tracking, the interaction with the PT) I would say that they are definitely performing well. Nonetheless, the programme did not work on me, notwithstanding the fact I was following it to the letter. I had some issues in terms of scheduling the training due to the fact that I used to work at night as well, but we had adapted the training to that and I was reassured that this was not going to impact the results. Long story short, I started in January, and by April I was nowhere near the results I was expecting. I have a 'skinny fat' physique, meaning that I have belly fat and love handles, but low muscle mass and I am skinny on the top half of my body. The initial strategy was to reduce the body fat drastically: that simply made me visibly skinnier, and removed the little muscle mass I had. Everyone I met thought I was sick because of how skinny I got. The belly was still persistent, although smaller. What annoyed me was the fact that were a lot of expectations and reassurances about this upcoming transformation, and once we got closer to it, it became clear that this was not going to happen. Also, I would advise you to not trust too much the pictures on the website: the way they take the first pic, and the second is very different. They make you tense every muscle in your body and hold back the belly, so it looks somewhat better. I am sure the programme works beautifully for people who have to lose fat, but for skinny-fat people who have a very peculiar condition, it is not the best.
Training for Kilimanjaro Trek
I joined as a member of UP Liverpool in June 2023 exactly 4 months before I was due to embark on my challenge to climb Kilimanjaro. I had 6 months off training from injury and it showed. I wanted to work with a trainer who would get me ready as best as possible; train in a safe way and it to fit around my life schedule. I got paired up with Seb, who loved the challenge. 4 months of hard graft and sacrifice, I managed to lose 12kg. I didn't start out with a goal to lose weight just to train the body properly. The sessions certainly make you have a love/hate relationship!
I was really nervous at first. UP is not a cheap Gym but I soon realised why. They want to see their clients succeed. They make you work hard to help you achieve your goals. No let UP in the training. It's an investment in your life.
It's easy to sign up to a public gym for a fraction of the price but I found it's easy not to go. What I like about UP is they tailor each session for each individual client. Each session is tracked in the App and it makes you accountable when logging key information.
I have continued to train with Seb after my return. One session a week just to remind my body that the weight training was good. I was impressed how other trainers/gym manager James commented on progress and asked how my challenge was when I got back.
The one to one training sessions for me make a difference and its a great escape from the desk for a hour two a week.
No regrets. On to the next set of goals.
Thank you UP!
