How can I trust other reviews? How did I know it is not just friends of the business rating it?

Amazingly helpful when you want to plan a trip, dinner or outing. Know where to go and what to do by others who have experienced it.

I find TripAdvisor provides fairly accurate and helpful guides to would be travellers on places to go, stay and eat around the world. I've used it to guide my travels in Europe and at home in New Zealand.

I like trip advisor because its easy to access information and it provides a great guide instantly

When planning a trip we always check out TripAdvisor. The experiences of other travellers is invaluable and as a result we have had amazing adventures and stays, in places such as Rarotonga, Peru, Asia and Europe. We have also seen and experienced things we would of otherwise missed if it hadn't been for the advise of others on TripAdvisor. Keep it up and keep reviewing everyone!

Trip advisor is a very user friendly site. It encourages users to review where they have been and this in turn gives others informed information. I always use trip advisor to check a location or venue. I enjoy writing the reviews as they are a honest account of where we have been and it is good to know that they are read by others.

It is a reasonably good site to navigate and with a bit of understanding you can interpret reviews If many reviews say a hotel is dirty/uncaring/noisy etc then you would take notice but if only a few whine about the traffic noise in a large city or something trivial like a slow lift well it doesn't take half a brain to work out how good/bad the hotel is-same applies to restaurants/attractions. I think it is good as a guide without being dictatorial.

TripAdvisor is more than an accumulation of travellers' memories, it helps you get some idea of the places you are thinking about visiting and sometimes changing your mind about them (due to insight from people who stayed there/ate there etc).
There are certainly a few places I wished I had known about before I booked there - this is where TripAdvisor comes in so handy. It has experiences of people from all around the world so you get a very wide opinion of a potential place all in one go. It also gives you the best prices for places to stay and tells you what airlines have specials for places you may want to go to.

We have used TripAdvisor a number of times to check out a play to stay, visit or eat and find the peer to peer reviewer ratings very helpful and accurate. It is perhaps the most 'honest' appraisal portal online.

I feel that people either write a positive or negative review, with not many saying it is OK. I realise going on different days, times etc., we all experience things not the same.

Speaking as a traveller, TripAdvisor is one of the most useful sites to use when you're on the road. It's a great way to check the places you've already booked, as well as finding new ones. Obviously, you won't always agree because we aren't all the same - but if you're clear about what you're looking for you will always find what you need. You can certainly trust that the opinions are honest and when you've had a bad experience, it's great to know you're not alone.

Speaking as a contributor,I'm less happy. The constant exhortations to earn your next badge don't equate to anything real and are deliberately misleading. So,if you are posting a review, do it purely to help your fellow travellers, not with the expectation that there's something in it for you. I don't need lots of "Dora the explorer " badges to keep reviewing; do you?

It is a good tool to help people who want value and a good experience.

I love to read what experiences people have when obtaining a service or accommodation throughout the world. Helps make choices instead of wasting your time and hard earned money on something that's not great. lots of great reviews and choice. Every traveler should use this before making bookings

Main issue is with Trip advisor, requiring log-in and requiring app - I don't want any more apps on my phone.

Intrusive, persistent and overly frequent emails from Trip advisor are annoying.

Has become a tool for the property owner more than the traveller.

Our family does an awful lot of travel both domestic and overseas and it's fantastic to be able easily and quickly access information about the places you are visiting.

I dont really have too much to say other than tripadvisor is a fantastic way to find and rate places to go no matter where you are.

I always check somewhere out and post reviews on TripAdvisor. The range of people using and reviewing on it give a pretty good picture of what you are going to get.
