Worthwhile experience
I had a really good time volunteering on the turtle program in Sri Lanka & a lot of that was thanks to Tharu. She is funny, clever & genuinely cares about both the turtles and volunteers in her care. The food and accommodation are basic but it was worth it to have such a great experience with amazing people & wildlife in a beautiful location.

TMR Sri Lanka- Teaching Programme
Following from my 10 weeks at The Mighty Roar in Sri Lanka, I can honestly say I’ve had an awesome time and have met some amazing people through out.
The teaching programme led my Chamo was a particular highlight of my trip. Her energy and enthusiasm made it a very enjoyable and fun experience. On top of that, I have loved getting to know the children who are all so talented and eager to learn. It’s been a real privilege. James

Sri Lanka is beautiful but the mighty…
Sri Lanka is beautiful but the mighty roar made it such an amazing experience, i’ve met some of my best friends and cannot express my gratitude enough. The staff are all incredibly friendly and helpful, especially Tharu who led the turtle conservation programme which has been spectacular! Would recommend to anyone doing any programme as it’s so easy to spend time on them all and experience everything you can!

6 weeks at TMR Sri Lanka
I'v just spent 6 weeks at TMR volunteer base in Sri Lanka, on the Sea Turtle program. It was really amazing. Iv seen numerous turtles laying their eggs whilst on beach patrols and I'v also released loads of hatchlings into the ocean. Tharu, the turtle program leader was amazing. She's fun, hard working and really friendly. She was a big reason why my trip was so special. The other staff are also amazing and friendly, and the place has a big family feel to it. The volunteer house is safe, secure and managed well. It's also easy to get out and about to explore the local area. I definitely recommend the Turtle Program in Sri Lanka, the country is a real fun place with a laid back vibe.

Sri Lanka Medical Elective
I have just finished my 4 week medical elective with The Mighty Roar in Sri Lanka.
Overall, it was a very enjoyable 4 weeks. Everyone at The Mighty Roar, especially Thillini, Chamo and Charith were very welcoming and helpful at all times throughout our stay.
The medical placement suited me well! I’m glad that we only did a couple of hours at the local base hospitals each morning as we could then enjoy having our afternoons free. Thillini organised the placements well and gave a variety of different opportunities. It was interesting to get some experience in traditional medicine (Ayurveda).
The location is great, being able to access the beach/Hikkaduwa/nearby restaurants and cafes very easily.
The Mighty Roar Sri Lanka is very social and an enjoyable place to be.
I really enjoyed my four weeks here and would highly recommend to others

Street dog volunteering Sri Lanka
I’ve just finished 2 weeks volunteering on the street dog programme in Sri Lanka with TMR and had the best time ever! The programme is hard work and you have to be committed to it but it is so worth it. The dogs in the sanctuary are adorable and although there are some heartbreaking moments, it’s so rewarding going out to help the dogs on the streets too. Kavi, who runs the programme here is amazing and so involved in helping us with all the dogs - she deserves lots of recognition! Volunteering here has been so worthwhile and the best 2 weeks ever, I wish I was staying longer! I highly recommend the street dog volunteering as the dogs here rely on us to survive.

Absolutely Incredible Turtle Program in…
Absolutely Incredible Turtle Program in Sri Lanka – I Learned So Much!
I spent 2 weeks volunteering on the turtle program in Sri Lanka, and it was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience! I gained so much knowledge about these amazing creatures, and getting to help save baby hatchlings was incredibly rewarding.
All the staff are lovely, welcoming, caring, and incredibly knowledgeable – they made me feel comfortable right from the start. They always go out of their way to help and make everyone feel at home. There are daily activities planned too, so there’s never a dull moment, and the turtle care experience itself is absolutely incredible!
A massive shout-out and very special thank you to Tharu, the leader of the program – she was absolutely wonderful! She couldn’t have been nicer and is amazing at what she does. With her constant smile, she checks in on everyone and genuinely cares that we all have the best possible time. She works so hard to ensure the turtles are well looked after, goes above and beyond to help with anything we need, and makes every single person feel welcome and supported. Her kindness and positive energy are what make this program so extra special!
Thank you also to TMR – you were fantastic too! As an added bonus, during our free time I got to visit the Maldives, which was absolutely amazing!

Medical elective
I did the medical elective for 6 weeks in Sri Lanka with the mighty roar and I had a great time. The staff here are definitely the best bit of the programme and all the activities they put on after placement in the afternoon/evening. There was a football game against the local Sri Lanka’s every Wednesday which was definitely my favourite part of the trip. The placement was interesting and everyone was very nice and welcoming on the ward. It’s in a brilliant location right next to your own private beach and a short Tuk Tuk into Hikkadua which was a great place to go out for food.

Best 6 months of my life!
I stayed 6 months in Bali with the Mighty Roar and honestly it was the best decision I’ve ever made. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, the camp is super fun and I can’t wait to go back. Staying for such a long time meant I saw a lot of people come and go but hardly one person had anything bad to say and there were lists of tears as they left, including mine when it finally came to my turn to go. Really miss that place and have made lots of close friends through there, really can’t recommend it enough!

Amazing week volunteering with rescued…
Amazing week volunteering with rescued elephants! WFFT is a great rescue centre to volunteer at. The accommodation and facilities are good, the food is varied and the team are so knowledgeable about all the animals there when you have questions. One week wasn’t long enough here, I definitely would’ve stayed longer if I could have! The elephants are amazing animals and volunteering with them was so rewarding- a different experience each day.

Teaching Volunteering and Safari in Moshi, Tanzania
Hard to review an experience in Tanzania on Western Standards so I feel a four star review feels a fair balance. Accomodation and food is very basic by western standards. Communal area facilitates a very fun social element, which along with experiencing the local way of life are the highlights. Local team are friendly and good at getting drivers to take you to and from places but expect some things to go wrong. I waited an hour an a half for my pick up from a nearby hotel and we once went 40 minutes on a bus to play a football game, without having a football. However, in all, things generally get sorted but sometimes you must persist. I never had something I needed to escalate to the UK office but when others did then things got fixed. Volunteering at the school was a brilliant eye opening experience, which I really enjoyed. Went on the safari and it was absolutely fantastic and highly recommend.
In summary, I would recommend the Mighty Roar for volunteering in Moshi, Tanzania but do so with expectations that things run less than perfectly!

Best experience ever!
I spent 2 weeks volunteering in Ghana for the 2nd time now and I loved it just like I did the first time!! The staff are really accommodating and friendly. They feel more like family than staff as they spend time with you and get to know you. I felt really welcomed in Busua and as it’s my second time back seeing all the familiar faces was so lovely. The kids were amazing and working in the school was so nice. The location is beautiful with the beach being a minute walk away. I will definitely be back!

The best trip
Everything was amazing. From the minute I arrived in Ghana I felt home thanks to the team who welcomed us straight from Accra. Then when we arrived in Busua the community was very nice. Working at the school was fantastic. Children are super nice. I definitely recommend this experience

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the mighty roar and was well looked after by all the staff. I took part in the title program and got to be hands on for all the activities and work. Tharu was running the program and was amazing she made sure we all knew what we were doing and were all having a good time! She answered any questions I had and was an excellent guide for the program. The accommodation was nice with air con and bathrooms and the food made each day was delicious. Childcare Programme - Sri Lanka
I did the childcare programme with The Mighty Roar Sri Lanka and loved it. Chamo was so lovely, helpful and welcoming. I loved working with the children at the schools; we taught them letters and various English words and it was great to see their progress over my time at TMR. All the staff are so lovely at the…
All the staff are so lovely at the mighty roar. Working at childcare was really good but lacked a bit of structure. You have to get yourself involved as you aren’t told how to help the children. However the timetable is one of the best programmes because it is 3 hours in the morning for 5 days a week so it’s the same routine everyday. I really recommend doing The Mighty Roar. Everyone makes friends very quickly and it is a lot of fun!
