Absolutely appalling customer service
Absolutely appalling customer service. I spent £260 on a temperature-sensitive Mounjaro prescription which was delayed after Royal Mail incorrectly claimed nobody was home, despite me being in all day. I contacted The Family Chemist immediately because I was concerned about the medication, but received no response for almost 48 hours.
When they finally replied, they told me to refuse delivery and confirmed they would arrange a replacement or refund. The problem? By the time they sent that advice, I had already accepted the parcel because they had taken so long to respond. I opened the packaging only to check whether the pen was still cold following the delay. The medication was never used.
They then completely changed their position and refused any replacement or refund solely because I had opened the packaging to assess the condition of a temperature-sensitive medicine after the delivery delay. They acknowledged I had already accepted the parcel before receiving their advice but refused to make any exception.
Throughout the complaint, I repeatedly had to chase responses, had to ask multiple times for my formal complaint to even be acknowledged, and many of my points were met with what appeared to be standard template replies rather than addressing the issues I had actually raised.
For a company supplying prescription medication, I expected far better customer care and a more reasonable approach when a problem arose through no fault of my own. I will not be using The Family Chemist again and cannot recommend them based on my experience.

We are sorry that you remain dissatisfied with the outcome of your complaint. However, we feel it is important to clarify the circumstances surrounding this matter.
Your order was dispatched promptly in temperature-controlled packaging in accordance with the manufacturer's storage requirements. Whilst we appreciate that the courier experienced a delivery issue, this was outside of our control and we provided guidance as soon as we were able following your enquiry.
By the time we were informed that the parcel had been accepted and the medication packaging had been opened, the product could no longer be considered suitable for return or replacement. As a regulated pharmacy, we are legally unable to accept the return of, or reissue, prescription medicines once they have been opened or have left our control, regardless of whether the medication has been used. This is a fundamental patient safety requirement and not a policy unique to The Family Chemist.
Our advice to refuse delivery was given because this would have allowed the parcel to remain within the courier's network and be returned to us without entering the medicines supply chain. Unfortunately, once delivery had been accepted and the packaging opened, that option was no longer available.
With regard to our communication, we acknowledge that you would have preferred a faster response. However, complaints involving prescription medication require review by the appropriate team to ensure that any advice provided is accurate and compliant with pharmacy regulations. While some of our responses may follow a standard format to ensure consistency and regulatory compliance, they were based on the specific circumstances of your case and were not intended to dismiss the concerns you raised.
We appreciate that this outcome was not the one you were hoping for. However, our decisions were based on our legal and professional responsibilities as a registered pharmacy, and these standards are applied consistently to every patient to protect the integrity and safety of the medicines we supply.
