I had a problem with a neighbour who…

I had a problem with a neighbour who twice reported me to police for harrasment and i was arrested twice, both times n evidence was submitted and it was just a total fabrication and i had done nothing wrong.
So i googled to find a solicitor dealing with wrongful arrest, and lucky for me i found a good one in Satchel Moran, who quickly took up my case and did everything i could ever ask for, in a few months they had secured an offer for compensation from the police, which i received just weeks ago, and now they are processing the second arrest also.
They have kept me informed, given me good advice and have been very kind to me in my hours of need. I cannot thank them enough, this wasnt about the money for me, but i wanted justice and for my neighbour to stop being allowed to do this to me.
Satchel Moran solicitor Julia Davies was exceptional with her actions and even phoning me personally.
Recomended whole heartedly and if you have similar problems give them a ring.

Unhappy ending

I instructed Daniel Knowles to act for me in a contentious matter at Satchell Moran and I found him to be clear, concise and knowledgeable and patient as I have both a stammer and i am dyslexic. I regularly and only ever spoke to Daniel on the telephone during my matter and spoke to him 15-20 times throughout my case and initially I had no concerns whatsoever.

However, when it appeared that he could take my case no further, he became impossible to contact, I was passed over to his secretary who I had never spoken to previously and he suddenly become extremely evasive when I tried to speak to him. At the very end it felt like I was fighting my own case as he gave me no guidance. I was advising him by email that I needed the matter chased and I felt because my case turned out to be a low value case that he did not do enough to help me. In the end i challenged the amount that Daniel and the Barrister believed I should receive and ended up receiving a higher figure due to the explanations and wording I gave to be forwarded on to the other side. I have come away believing at the very end that I essential was doing the job for myself and him as he decided there was no point putting any effort in, which was entirely different that the discussions we have at the very start of the case.

I am not sure if this is Daniel himself or this is how the company works. I thought it was extremely unprofessional and as a client I felt that when I really needed Daniel to fight my corner with the other solicitors, he was only dealing with the minimum responses necessary to bring my case to an end without any consideration for me.

The worst situation a parent has to handle and this firm make it worse!

Dealt with Solicitors all my working life so think I know what standard to expect.

I emailed an extensive write up concerning my only child's miss managed suicide. The call handler Elizabeth and I missed each other's call. I finally speak today with another call handler. That call handler insisted she had no email. She was close to aggressive in the way she spoke. I then talked with Nathan who told me he had my email, would listen to the conversation and get back. Then I spoke with the call handler Elizabeth. She told me my original email was in a big inbox and asked that I tell her what happened. She clearly wasn't going to look for my original email despite being advised it was hard to speak of a suicide and I would prefer her to review my initial email. The tone was becoming unhelpful. I had no option but to end the call.

It's one thing to have your only child take her life and another to have to go through things again. That's why I provided a lengthy email so I wouldn't need to continually go over this horror.

That it exists in an inbox somewhere with this company shows it exists yet has not been read. That suggests poor case management and poor customer handling.

I cannot recommend this company if the way they deal with me is their standard.

Now I'm not soft or a trouble maker but I am stunned at the ineptitude displayed right at the beginning of potential business.

My advice is to not use these…

My advice is to not use these solicitors for cases against the police. They tend to just copy and paste every letter they write and appear very inexperienced in dealing with these matters. They will willingly take on cases, but are too afraid to proceed with going to court as they fear they will lose the case once it eventually goes to court. My recommendation would be to use a solicitor that requires you to take out ATE insurance ('after the event') along with your CFA (No win, no fee)

ATE insurance, or After The Event insurance, is a legal expenses policy bought after a dispute starts to cover potential legal costs, protecting against paying the other side's fees if you lose and covering your own expenses (disbursements) like expert reports or court fees, often used with "no win, no fee" cases to manage financial risk. It's for litigation or arbitration and insures both claimants and defendants, though mostly claimants, to provide financial security in legal battles.

Key aspects of ATE insurance:

Timing: Purchased after a legal dispute has arisen, unlike Before The Event (BTE) insurance.

Coverage: Protects against "adverse costs" (opponent's fees) and your own disbursements (solicitor's fees, expert reports, court fees) if your case fails.
Purpose: Reduces financial risk, especially in "no win, no fee" (conditional fee agreement) arrangements, making litigation more accessible.

Who uses it: Primarily claimants, but also defendants, for most types of litigation (excluding criminal or matrimonial).

Cost: Premiums increase the later the policy is bought, so it's often better to get it early in the dispute.

Satchell Moran could become a good solicitor if they adopted this position with their claimants from the outset of cases they take on against the police.

Poor attitude over the phone

I want to make it clear from the outset: I only checked this firm’s reviews after calling them, not before. So this review is not written with any prejudice. But seeing how they respond to others attacking almost every person who leaves a negative review and dismissing them as “not clients” sadly reflects exactly the experience I’ve just had myself.

And for the record: you do not have to be a client to have had a bad experience with a company.
You’d think a legal firm, of all businesses, would understand that.
Poor treatment at the first point of contact is still a completely legitimate experience.

I phoned the firm because my mother, a vulnerable adult, wished to seek advice regarding a potential claim against the police. This relates to an incident from 2024 that has now left her in legal limbo for 615 days, with no justice, no clarity, and no closure. The allegation made against her falls under summary-only offences specifically Harassment under s.2 PHA 1997 or Stalking under s.2A PHA 1997.

The law on this is clear as day: Under Section 127 of the Magistrates’ Courts Act 1980, summary-only offences are time-barred after 6 months unless charges are laid within that period. That deadline passed well over a year ago.

So how is a vulnerable adult meant to seek justice when the police leave them in legal limbo indefinitely? There should be a route to redress. There should be a way for someone to clear their name when an investigation has legally expired.

Yet instead of compassion or proper guidance, I was met with a poor attitude. The woman who answered the phone was rude, dismissive and abrupt. I found myself having to explain to her that she is not a solicitor, yet she was attempting to give definitive legal opinions and shut down the enquiry without any qualified assessment.

You’d expect a no-win-no-fee firm to at least listen, especially when the situation involves vulnerable adults and clear procedural failings by authorities. Instead, I was spoken over and dismissed without care, understanding or interest.

For a firm that insists all their “actual clients” leave 5-star reviews, my experience does not inspire confidence. If this is how they treat potential clients particularly vulnerable ones the number of 1-star reviews suddenly makes perfect sense.

This was not acceptable, and it certainly does not reflect the professionalism, compassion or legal understanding one should reasonably expect from any law firm.

Fast positive action

They were prompt at every stage of my claim. Not only that they handled my case excellently to a positive conclusion. It was definately a team effort where they complimented each other seamlessly. I was informed at every stage of my claim and I feel I was given sound advice which I followed from their hard work and dedication my claim was settled well before the time estimates I was given. They were polite, understanding, followed instructions diligently but what came across more than that is how professional all the team were. I owe them a big thank you and hope this review goes somewhat to thanking them. If you are considering hiring them as solicitors I would recommend them wole heartedly. I live just outside London and instructing them from tbis distance made no difference to the case. I never felt the diffence.
