The FCA has now confirmed its motor finance redress scheme, with average compensation estimated at around £830 per eligible agreement. However, not every agreement will qualify, and any refund will depend on the lender’s review and whether the agreement meets the scheme criteria.
The FCA has indicated that compensation payments are expected to begin later in 2026 and continue as claims are assessed and processed.
We will continue to monitor the position closely and keep clients updated as soon as we receive further information from lenders.

My personal experience was disappointing and concerning
My personal experience was disappointing and concerning.
I signed up for a motor finance claim but cancelled very shortly afterwards, well within the 14-day cooling-off period (within approximately 30 minutes of initial acceptance). I sent written cancellation to the published cancellation email address and separately withdrew authority for Sandsford Law / Refund Club to act on my behalf.
A few days later I received written confirmation from a Customer Service Manager stating that my cancellation had been “processed”, that no cancellation fee was payable, and that Sandsford Law would “take no further action” on my behalf.
Despite this, I subsequently received multiple emails stating that various motor finance claims had been “accepted” and would be prepared for submission to lenders.
I have now had to raise a formal complaint to seek clarification and confirmation that no action was taken after cancellation.
I can only comment on my own experience, but based on this I was left with little confidence in the internal communication and administration processes.

We completely understand why receiving further communications after being advised that your cancellation had been processed would have been frustrating and concerning. We recognise how this could create uncertainty and affect your confidence in our processes.
Following your review, our Operations Manager personally reviewed the matter internally and has also attempted to contact you directly to better understand your experience and provide clarification. From our review, we can confirm that your cancellation request was received and processed, no cancellation fee is payable, and your authority for Sandsford Law to act on your behalf was withdrawn.
We would also like to provide reassurance regarding what appears to be your main concern. We can confirm that no lenders were contacted and no claims were submitted or progressed on your behalf following your cancellation request.
During our internal review, it appears that despite your file being earmarked for cancellation, some communications may have continued while parts of our internal cancellation process were being transitioned. We appreciate that this should not have created uncertainty or concern.
We understand that trust and communication are extremely important and we take feedback such as this seriously, as it helps us identify opportunities to improve our processes.
As we have been unable to speak with you directly, we would still welcome the opportunity to discuss any remaining concerns. Please feel free to contact our Operations Manager, Elizabeth, directly on 0203 435 7379, who would be happy to discuss this further.
