I recently finished my first story working with an editor through Reedsy, and it was an incredible experience. She is extremely qualified, and I knew I was in great hands. Her feedback was thorough, helpful, and insightful, and I felt completely supported and encouraged from start to finish. The first round of feedback blew me away. The extensive notes she included showed her deep knowledge of publishing and the structure of the type of story I wanted to write. Highly recommend working with an editor through Reedsy!

Reedsy is the best platform for new and veteran writers alike. I've written my recent manuscript on their editing feature (and it's even received a partial request from an agent!). The site is easy to navigate and offers plenty of amazing resources. I commissioned an artist, Sofia Sanz, to create a cover for my book and had a wonderful experience. It's helped with marketing, sales, etc. Forever grateful for Reedsy! Highly recommend!

I paid them to review my book. What a rip off. My book never got reviewed and all they seem to want to do is promote their site and try to get you to give them more money. Don't waste your money.

What a great concept: one-stop shopping for authors. You can find classes, get your book edited, reviewed or illustrated, find lists of book awards and reviewers, and many more useful services. I have used quite a few of them myself, and recommend them whole-heartedly!

Reid Z connected me with Moe who worked on seeds and shattered soil and was an incredibly important part of bringing this book to the finish line. This memoir has been more than 17 years in the making, and handing such a personal story to someone else requires a tremendous amount of trust. Moselle treated both my manuscript and my story with care and respect will still challenging me to make the book stronger. She helped me see places where the story needed more content, where I needed to slow down and let readers into the moment, and where my own familiarity with my life, it caused me to leave out details or Reid would need. Her questions often made me go back into memories. I hadn’t fully explored on the page, and the book became richer because of it. What I appreciated most was that I never felt as though Mizelle was trying to turn my memoir into her book. She helped me strengthen my writing while allowing the voice, imperfections, humor, pain, and personality to remain mine thank you to Reedsy for the connection.

Reedsy is an amazing platform for writers who want to connect with professional freelance editors and others in the publishing field. It was exactly what I was looking for. It was so easy to use and the communication was prompt and always friendly. The website itself is very user friendly and easy to navigate. It's a solid 10/10 from me.

I had an excellent experience with Reedsy until I disagreed when a sci-fi buff grabbed my book on the first day, admitting elsewhere that my genre was not "his thing." The review was as expected, he really didn't connect with my genre. Not a surprise, but Reedsy was so unhelpful it almost rose to the level of insulting. Customer service is breathtakingly bad. For me, my genre is not commonly understood, so this reviewer's misinterpretation can be really problematic for this book. I should note that he didn't have bad things to say about the book at all, just missed the mark by a lot. When I brought that up, they were, to be honest, kind of cold and unhelpful.

Neither book, both with great reviews, benefitted from Reesdy Discovery.

Honestly, I'd save your money.

Reedsy is an amazingly comprehensive resource for authors. I found the editing service I needed on this well designed, responsive website. The messaging application is a quick, effective way to communicate with service providers and the payment options appeared secure. Reedsy even provided a full transcript of the video consultation I held with my editor. Highly recommended.

I’ve been using Reedsy to build and format my first novel and it has made the process so easy! The platform is much more user friendly than other tools Ive tried like Noveler or Scrivener which might be more technically robust overall but felt overwhelming to this girl who just really wanted to start writing and tell a story. I love the accountability with the daily word count goals and progress trackers, but what makes it the most valuable tool for me is the easy formatting and exporting for print and e-book publishing. I’ve worked in Reedsy almost every day for months now and would gladly recommend it as a first stop for any writer looking for the perfect tool to plan, build, and format their story.

They can:

Publish, edit, translate, or shorten it.
Sell it or put it in a book.
Use your name and story for promotion.
Give the rights to others.
Do all of this without paying you or asking permission again.

Their authors complaing they have lost out on 7k due to it's practises

Each entrant retains the copyright to their entry but grants to Reedsy a non-exclusive, irrevocable, perpetual, transferable, sub-licensable, worldwide, royalty-free license to store, publish, edit and otherwise use the entry on our website(s) and platform(s) to publish all or part of your entry and in all media now known or hereafter discovered at our discretion.

“You agree that such use by Reedsy may include editing and publishing your entry, including within a compilation together with others, into a book format (or any other format) which may be published and sold or provided free of charge at Reedsy’s discretion.

“If your story is selected as Winner (and even if you are not selected as a Winner), you may still publish the story elsewhere, but the publication must include: the relevant prompt; acknowledgment to Reedsy.com for providing the prompt that inspired the story.

“This acknowledgment should be in the form of a mention, and in the case of a digital publication, a “dofollow” link back to (cant post links here)

“By submitting an entry, you agree that Reedsy may at its sole discretion edit, adapt, abridge, or translate the entry for the purposes listed in these terms and conditions.

“You grant permission to Reedsy to use your name and entry for promotional purposes without additional compensation, and to publish all or part of your entry in all media now known or hereafter discovered, worldwide and on the Internet and World Wide Web, without notice, review or approval.”

I hired a designer through Reedsy for my book cover, and while the artwork was genuinely lovely, the actual experience was a disaster.

The designer set their own deadline, then pushed it back, which was fine, to May 21st through Reedsy's own amendment process, a date they chose themselves, and then completely missed it. They'd disappear for up to three weeks at a time without a word, and the finished files never showed up through June or July, even though the full payment cleared on May 19th.

I was patient the entire time, I was constantly communicative, and I paid in full and on time. Reedsy didn't even engage until I posted about it publicly on Reddit, and even then, I was discouraged from filing a chargeback and told to think about the designer's livelihood and their Stripe account, as if that's my problem when they're the one who didn't do the work.

Of everything I actually paid for, a full print-ready jacket, an EPUB cover, a spine, and social assets, I have a single front cover, which I never finalized for approval and can't publish with. And then after a formal dispute, Reedsy decided the designer gets to keep 60% of the fee for that one front cover, because apparently it represents "most of the value." So I've been refunded a fraction of what I paid, for work I genuinely can't use.

The talent was never the issue, which honestly makes it more disappointing. But if you're paying for a service on a deadline, know that Reedsy's dispute process can side heavily with the designer even when most of the contracted work never gets delivered.

To Reedsy's reply :
Your own written dispute decision states that the back cover, spine, EPUB-compatible files, and social assets "were not completed or provided." Those are your words, not mine.

As for "the right to use this work as is": use what, exactly? No finished file of anything was ever delivered to me. Not the front cover, not in print resolution, not in any usable format. The only thing ever provided, across four months, was low-resolution preview images posted in the message thread. I have the right to publish a file I was never given.

The designer set her own completion deadline of May 21st through your amendment process, was paid in full on May 19th, and missed it. She kept 60% of the fee. Readers can decide for themselves whether that reflects a platform that protects the people paying for the work.

I found Reedsy easy to use and it helped me to find multiple high quality professionals in no time at all. User friendly interface and great communications.
