Service is Excellent Recently (April) had to call RAC out to my car, service was excellent. Decided to try an RAC service at my home (June), service was excellent. Received renewal quote 50% increase on last year, looked at RAC for quote £20 cheaper than last year in total saved £170 on insurance.

Thankfully I’ve never had to make a claim but setting up a policy is straightforward enough. I’ve only give four stars because I find it galling that the RAC (along with other insurers) only reduced my renewal premium to a more affordable level when I told them I was going to look elsewhere rather than blindly coughing up the higher rate quoted for this year.

I missed the renewal date by 1 day
I missed the renewal date by 1 day, was not allowed to renew the policy sent and had to take out a new policy which cost me more money. I have been a loyal and longstanding member of the RAC but with this very poor regard for loyalty I will be insuring my two cars with a different company in the future and not renewing my RAC breakdown cover when the current policy expires. I expect better for a customer who has been loyal to RAC.

We completely understand your disappointment at being unable to renew your existing policy after missing the renewal date by one day, and having to take out a new policy at a higher cost. Quotes and renewal offers are only valid for a certain amount of time, but we truly value customer loyalty and are very sorry for the inconvenience and letdown this has caused you as a longstanding member.

User friendly website and competitive pricing
Straightforward website and product clearly explained. Price competitive. Confusing when you subsequently try to log in as the RAC log in page denies all knowledge of your email, password and policy number.

Took insurance out recently with RAC
Took insurance out recently with RAC, since the policy has started it feels like all they want to do is add costs on, a claim come back for a windscreen repair back in 2022 and when googled… majority of company’s don’t look for this on claims. None of my previous insurers have looked at this, That added around £120 on the total price which I think is ridiculous. A few days later I needed to change my Registration number, again incurred costs for this as ‘admin fee’ when majority of companies do this for free or you can do this yourself on your account which RAC never gave me the option.
When speaking to advisors they don’t explain things properly over online chat.
My personal view is they try and squeeze money out of you, I won’t be renewing again once my policy is up, not a great experience.

Apathy and laziness retained me as a customer. Much better policies available elsewhere but the savings weren't worth the hassle of moving. Aviva offered me total zero excess for about a tenner less - that was tempting, but not enough for me to bother this time. I am lucky enough not to have had to deal with an insurer in 36 years of driving so far. I guess how an insurance company performs when making a claim is the proof of their quality
