When I called to ask if a price match could be made re the insurance price, the chap (so sorry I cannot remember his name) was very friendly and helpful and advised that RAC doesn't do "price matching". The renewal went ahead quickly and smoothly

I found this insurance quote via go compare and then proceeded to the RAC insurance website. All I did then was follow the the instructions for completing the acceptance of the quote whilst also adding the breakdown and roadside assist cover. I now wait to see how the service works out over the coming year.

Downsizing equals upsized premium.
My car insurance renewal was arranged a couple of years ago via Comparethemarket and was a very good offer via RAC, underwritten by Ageas. A year later the RAC direct requote for the up and coming year (2025 to 2026) was even less (sub £200).
However in July 2025 I rang the RAC to notify them that we had just moved house*. Annoyingly a very competitive premium from the RAC suddenly became over £100 more because our downsizing new build bungalow’s address/post code was not then in the Ageas listings and so I had to immediately change to a more expensive alternative underwriter which did (AXA) - not very good! The RAC are now advising that the new premium again with AXA would be £322.51 (up from £287.72 last year).
At least this year I have time to shop around before the natural termination of the current policy and not have to make an enforced poor instant change to remain insured. Comparethemarket is quoting the two cheapest deals as both being now back with Ageas who would appear to recognise where we live now!!
*This is a new build development from 2024/5 on the site of a former similarly named site, but with different post code, which was demolished some 10 years ago! We have had issues with the new post code not being recognised by all organisations although this is now improving and after a year of continued reporting to Google maps they have finally accepted my numerous notifications regarding the post code and new build layout. Apple Maps has been correct for some time! Insurance under writers are a law unto themselves!

Mid contract price increase
Mid contract price increase. Started new policy in May at price X, had an email 3 months layer to say it's increasing by an extra 40 a month! No policy changes. Options are to accept the new price or pay cancelation fee. Never use these again!

I was charged an extra £20 as my bank…
I was charged an extra £20 as my bank declined payment of my card. I have asked RAC for someone in authority to ring me concerning this, 10 days ago, so I can explain my irritation - if my card was authorised by their automatic machine, why was it declined.
Hence, I consider this poor service.

Price Better
After having been through Quote Me Happy for many years the price rocketed by about 40%. Changing to RAC through Confused.com took price down to less than I paid for the year before. It's unfortunate that you have to change insurer every now an then as they increase it for no good reason. Hopefully Confused.com won't do so.
