I used PEX Insure through my Breakdown Insurance service taken out through Eversure - have used them once since taking out the policy with Eversure (which clearly states cover is for Roadside/At Home assistance, and if that is not able to fix the problem within 30 minutes that recovery to a local garage of my choosing would be provided as part of the cover).
The one time I called for assistance, the customer services person I spoke to was very helpful and efficient - however after taking my details he asked if I wanted "assistance or recovery". As I'm not a mechanic I couldn't possibly know whether the problem I was experiencing was fixable by an engineer in situ, or would require a garage to take a look!! I explained that I couldn't possibly know, and was told that if I elected to take assistance and it later turned out I needed recovery to a garage, that the recovery to a garage would be chargeable and not covered by my policy.
I queried this and stated that it couldn't possibly be right, and the operator then placed me on hold for prolonged periods of time while he made checks - after returning several times advising that what he had told me was correct, he eventually agreed to "put a note on my record" to the effect of what I had stated but could not guarantee anything.
As it transpired the engineer that visited was able to help resolve my issue, so the query was not put to the test, but having further checked my policy with Eversure it clearly states that assistance will be provided at home or roadside and if the problem cannot be fixed within 30 minutes recovery to a local garage will be provided. So to have stated otherwise is both inaccurate and misleading, and may be worrying for someone less forthright.
Also expecting a customer to know which service they require is a little ridiculous, part of the reason for taking a breakdown policy is because I am not a trained mechanic and am therefore buying the services of someone that does know and is able to make that judgement call for me.
All other aspects of the service I cannot fault - I was kept regularly updated by both PEX and the recovery service they used as to ETA etc, the guy that turned up was knowledgeable and friendly and took great care to explain the issue, what would fix it and to make sure I was happy it had been fixed - but the lack of policy knowledge by the call centre is what has resulted in an average rating.
I've never had to provide so much personal information just for car insurance.
Why on earth would i need to provide a letter from work to confirm i work there? Very ott.

In December I purchased PEX Insure Breakdown Cover on my 5 year old Volvo XC60. Yesterday I needed to use the service and am very happy.
