I do not understand how the DVLA can…
I do not understand how the DVLA can share people’s personal information with private parking companies without ensuring that it is handled responsibly.
A friend contracted Parking Awareness Services for approximately two and a half months. During that time, the company issued numerous incorrect parking charges to his customers, damaging his business and reputation.
There also appears to be a lack of transparency. Matthew Wild From Parking Awareness Services has not provided clear information about Parking Awareness Services or Ascent Parking Collection, and customers’ questions appear to have been avoided.
If private companies can access personal data through the DVLA, what safeguards are in place to ensure that it is used properly and that innocent motorists are not unfairly targeted?
The DVLA should investigate complaints about the misuse of its data and restrict access where companies repeatedly issue incorrect charges. Companies given access to government-held information should be transparent, accountable and responsible.
