Cancelled my funded HSA debit card without any notice. The expiration date on my card clearly says 2027 but Optum decided to randomly cancel it without telling me. Optum is a very low quality choice... Mehr ansehen

I am refusing to continue with Optum
I am refusing to continue with Optum. I would rather pay out of my pocket with tax than give business to this scam company. I was referred to do an MRI. After I did it I paid with the Optum HSA card $610. Optum requested a receipt for this procedure, I provided. Optum declined! Then they requested again, I resubmitted the same receipt I got fromthe MRI facility. Optum denied. This happened two more times! I was given no explanation why they are denying my receipt. Optum froze my card last week. I am not even gonna a go into small things they denied such an Enzyme supplement for example, which helped my husband with digestion. Optum denied paying for it even after a doctor’s signed letter was submitted. F… you Optum. First I will make sure WILL PAY for the MRI, second I am NOT giving you my money again. You are fired. People, avoid this scam company.
Scam for end of year services
Scam for any services during the end of year; they will pay the claim, then request documentation beyond the date of remedy and then deny use of card and then mandate repayment which can only occur with a signature of a "release of liability" waiver. Complete scam setup.
Worst option for FSA
Worst option for FSA, HSA and commuter accounts. They find all possible excuses to make your card not usable, deny reimbursement after you pay out of packet. The harder they make it spending your own money, the more of your money they get to keep.
Worst HSA ever
Worst HSA ever. I will NEVER use this service again. TERRIBLE customer service, they make you submit documentation for basic doctor visits and prescription medications. Then suspend your card if you don't comply and jump through all of the hoops. A total joke.
Worst possible HSA bank
Worst possible HSA bank in the whole universe. They charge 3 Dollars a month just to keep your account and their customer service is terrible. Their website must be from 1990s and it takes forever to complete any transaction online.
Unhelpful customer service
Took months to get an online account after my employer started sending funds to Optum on my behalf. Help over phone non existent and hung up on me when they couldn't solve the problem. Security measure very similar to scam callers. Charges for statements and any chance they get.
Horrible customer service
Horrible customer service and they are asking for receipts that don't exist. Service date of April 7th and submitted on May 16th. Now they're asking for a receipt for May 16th (the date I submitted the actual receipt). What a joke. Obviously funding terrorism from this 3rd world ripoff. Employee's get stuck with this so called bank because they package it cheaply to employers that have low end cafeteria plans.
Extremely Disappointed with Optum Bank HSA…
Extremely Disappointed with Optum Bank's Lack of Flexibility and Poor Customer Service
I recently attempted to transfer my HSA funds from Optum Bank to a Fidelity HSA via a trustee-to-trustee, in-kind transfer. The majority of my HSA balance is invested in a Schwab HSA platform that Optum manages. However, despite multiple conversations and a clear request from Schwab for a simple release authorization letter, Optum refused to provide one.
Instead, I was told I’d be required to liquidate all of my investments, move them into cash, and then request a transfer — a process that can take weeks or even months, potentially forcing me to lock in unnecessary investment losses due to current market conditions. When I requested escalation or offered to pay a fee to receive the required letter, I was repeatedly stonewalled with scripted replies and no resolution.
The reps I spoke with were courteous, but clearly had no authority or flexibility to help, and management was inaccessible. The rigid policies and lack of adaptability at Optum Bank have created a deeply frustrating customer experience. I’ve lost trust in their ability to serve as a responsible HSA custodian and will be closing my account following liquidation of my stock holdings.
If you're looking for a customer-friendly HSA experience with investment flexibility, I strongly urge you to consider other providers. This experience has convinced me that Optum prioritizes policy over people — and your investments may pay the price.
Worst FSA account
Use a FSA account, half the time the card comes back denied. I call and they claim CVS is coding the prescriptions wrong, even though used the prior month and millions of people use them with spending accounts. Multiple claims denied from Doctor office and eye doctor. (understand if it was from walmart or something) . you would be better off using a different company or paying out of pocket
Update
Update; I received a call from Jackie@ Optum Bank today responding to the my complaint to the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau( consumerfinance.gov) on March 26, 2025. Jackie claimed they put my 2nd check in the mail March 25, the day of the second call from me and my bank. I'll see if and when it shows up. Possibly they take notifications from CFPB seriously?
Terrible bank
Terrible bank! Absolutely terrible service! Don't expect to get any customer support... all their representatives seem to lack skills (aside from using buzzwords!), and they’re located in India! I wanted to transfer my HSA account from their custodian to another company! They kept me waiting for months, asked me to liquidate, which caused a significant loss for my portfolio when they could have simply journaled it off their books to my new custodian. They made me wait a month to transfer my money while deducting a monthly fee from it, and eventually charged me for the transfer… If you have time for a headache or want to stay with them forever, go ahead… otherwise, if you see this ridiculous bank, run!
Optum Bank is literally the worst
Optum Bank is literally the worst. They tell you the wrong thing - you over contribute, then they do nothing but argue with you to try and fix it. "We can't do that" - yes you can, little one, because it's your job! What's worse, they representatives will direct your call to a random line at the end to avoid you giving feedback on their customer experience survey!
the worst possible bank
the worst possible bank, their service, their website. Hidden rules, available to your knowledge after you are scrod up. Really nicely orchestrated business to take advantage of their customers. YIkes
HSA with Optum Bank
I had an HSA with Optum bank for 5 years with my previous employer. I had some money still in it when I left the employer. They are crooks as they don't pay you any interest on your money and charge a monthly service charge if under 5000.00. I recently summited a reimbursement to myself for some medical expenses in which finally zeroed out my balance. I noticed the 1st day of March now have a -1.00
I called Optum and told to close out this HSA account as I don't ever plan to use your services again. Move you money to another HSA qualified bank if at all possible as Optum Bank are crooks.
This company is terrible and needs to…
This company is terrible and needs to be investigated. My employer put me in Optum Bank for our group HSA but now, after retirement and trying to get my money out to move it to a better company since their monthly fees are way above market average, they are a nightmare to deal with. Two weeks to send me a check for MY money is ridiculous. Their customer service seems to be entirely out of the United States.
Horrible
Horrible website, horrible offerings, horrible customer service. This company should be shut down.
I have been having the worst experience…
I have been having the worst experience I've ever had with a bank. I have my HSA with this group. They are fine as long as the processes work on your app, but if you need to call customer support you are in trouble! First they use an off shore call center, and you cannot ever talk to anyone that can actually do anything with your account. I submitted a simple Excess Contribution and deposit Correction Form for a refund on 1/10/2025. The automated response email said I should expect and update in 2-3 business days. ~2weeks later no update, no indication that anything regarding my request is in process. After a long and fruitless chat, I then spend a long time on the phone trying to get through to a human in some far away country. I'm told that the "backend" office "made a mistake" they didn't see the application I had attached in my email request. Requests have to made with an attached from via email. Don't worry, I should expect them to process it 2-3 business days. One week later I look at my account, and still no contact, no indication of anything being processed so I call again. This time I insist on talking to a supervisor. On that call I'm assured they are escalating the issue and I should expect an update in guess? 2-3 business days. I actually get a call back from a supervisor assuring me that my request is being processed. Whew! Today I look at my account balance hoping to see the requested refund of almost a $1,000 and to my horror my current balance shows a number less than my requested refund, and only around $100 less than when I made the request. So after 30 minutes on hold, the agent tells me there are no documented transactions in my account. I'm so frustrated. It feels like this bank is stealing from me! I need my money back for my healthcare!
This is the worst bank I have ever…
This is the worst bank I have ever utilized for my flexible spending account in the last 23 years of using flexible spending accounts. The claims' department requests documentation even for basic co-pays at your medical office. EOB's can take time to receive however Optum bank is quick to suspend your card, so you are unable to use it if you do not send your EOB in quickly. I had a date of service on 1/15/2025 and they suspended my card on 1/29/2025. I am still waiting for an EOB so I can get my card un-suspended but feel the bank needs to allow more time for submission.
I rarely speak with a person from their customer service team that has skills to even service the call appropriately.
Another experience entailed submission of documentation, and the rep assured me they took care of it to later find out they actually did nothing at all.
The claims department is very particular about what they will approve and is unlike any other FSA company I've worked with before; for example, they didn't like that the description of the service was listed under the patients name they needed the receipt to show its own heading like "description," even though the description of the service was clearly on the paperwork. I will be encouraging my company to find a new FSA company and I hope future company's read the complaints set forth on this page and stay far away.
Not even worth a star
Not even worth a star. But to even give a review I had to mark it.
Another bank stealing money from someone who asked for their account to be closed months ago.
SCAMMERS
