Couldn't recommend highly enough
Rob and his team have been fabulous with our German Shepherd Nala. From a reactive nervous and over protective dog to a little sweetheart she is a completely different dog and living her best life

Rob was very friendly and listened to everything we had to say about our training needs for our two dogs - yorkshire terrier and West highland terrier. Within less than a minute of taking each of our boys out on an initial assessment walk, both boys were extremely well behaved - it was absolutely amazing to see. The plan that Rob has suggested and the immediate response from our two dogs has given me confidence in getting to the results we are looking for. 100% happy with the results already.

First experience of dog training for faith today,it went well learnt new things, looking forward to next training day.

Absolutely amazing, cannot recommend Rob enough. Came over two hours to help us with a very stubborn Rottweiler and in less than hour already see a huge difference. Would absolutely recommend and can’t wait to keep going!

We met Rob and Jane today for the first time to discuss residential training for our Belgian Malinois. During the assessment Rob already addressed some of the issues and provided us with helpful information.
Instead of residential training Rob suggested a different approach that would not only involve us much more but also be more cost efficient.
We very much liked Rob's straight forward, confident approach, open talking and getting us a lot involved...

Rob has had zeus boarding whilst we have been on holiday. He's also had him groomed for us. We can only review how we find and it's been amazing. We would recommend Rob to anybody.

The guys are very friendly and explained the process of what would happen while they had my dog at the course. Also within 10 minutes of the initial assessment the improvement of my dog on the lead was amazing, he went from pulling hard to walking nicely beside the trainer.

I would highly recommend this dog trainer. Excellent service by a fantastic man who truly understands dogs. My Raffy dog has absolutely transformed since training with Rob and I am feeling much more confident too. Rob travels all over the country to help people with training their dogs . He also trains assistance dogs and is now putting my dog Raffy through his assistance dog training. Thank you Rob. If anyone needs a dog trainer this is the man to go to. We are really really pleased.

The guys at 1-2-1 dog training have been fantastic they took my tea cup maltipoo for 2 weeks training, received videos everyday, and has came back goes to toilet on command, crate trained. Highly recommend them.

When Metcalfe from One to One Dog Training School asked me for a positive review *before* he had even worked with my dog, it should have rung alarm bells. He said he needed to counteract a "social media campaign" against his business. I now know exactly why people are speaking out.

I entrusted them with my beautiful, sensitive dog — a dog who simply needed reassurance and confidence after developing some fear-based reactivity. I made it crystal clear: no slip leads, no choke chains, and absolutely no harsh methods, especially due to her narrowed trachea.

Yet from the start, my clear instructions were ignored. She was paraded around on the very equipment I had forbidden, but I tried to keep faith, telling myself they were the professionals.

The final straw came days before she was due home:
A horrifying video showed my terrified dog being deliberately baited with a small, barking dog. She tried everything to avoid conflict — turning away, showing fear, pleading for space — but they cornered her until she had no choice but to react.
What followed broke my heart.
She was violently yanked again and again, even as she cowered in fear. Her trust shattered. Her spirit crushed.
All for what? To "prove" they could "fix" her by making her too scared to react?

This is not training. This is cruelty dressed up as control.

I paid nearly £2000 for what I thought would be compassionate, professional support. Instead, I feel sick with guilt that I ever left her there.

Please, if you love your dog, *please* research this company thoroughly.
Look beyond the glossy marketing. Look at the social media reports. Check Companies House and see the trail of dissolved businesses.
Don't make the same mistake I did.
Your dog deserves far, far better.

Outstanding service and help, was an absolute lifesaver for both my dogs. Robert did the impossible and helped both dogs and most importantly saved me from rehoming one.

Absolutely brilliant, made a massive impact with our dog in the space of 10 mins. If you need a dog trainer in the Nottingham and surrounding areas this is your guy.

Assessment session tonight and within the first 10 minutes my 2 dogs were walking better, calm on the lead, staying and ignoring distractions ..... amazing for a first session

As a family we had had a traumatic year and the dog needed some major training. I spoke on the phone with them and then met them. Both times I felt my particular circumstances and needs along with dogs were understood. Before I left him everything was explained, what would happen, where he would sleep and what his food would be. The videos I was sent helped show me his learning and progress. My dog has just come back from a residential course and the change is amazing. He still has personality but is so much calmer in himself. Walking him is so much easier as well. There is a long way to go but with their help we will get there

So far so good. I’ll make my final judgement at the end of Dave’s training.

UPDATE: stay away if you love your dog. Rob lied to me. If he says he’s putting your dog in his kennels he’s lying. He doesn’t have any. He trawls the UK in his van and that is where your dog will be. The kennels belong to his partner who is equally as bad. They have been reported. My dog came back reactive and now has specialist treatment for the trauma he suffered. Do your homework, don’t trust this man. He gives the speech but doesn’t deliver on it. He also asks you to put up positive trust pilot reviews to boost his credibility.

I must apologise to Rob for putting 2 stars he is definitely a 5 star trainer so please except my dearest apologise for this I would definitely recommend Rob to anyone wanting to have there pet train ours was a shar pei Called Hippo a head strong dog that has changed and walks by your side now

We are writing this review as a warning to others considering one-to-one dog training services with Rob Metcalfe. Based on our experience, we strongly urge anyone looking into his services to conduct thorough research before committing.
My friend required a psychiatric assistance dog to help with her mental health. We explored multiple trainers before coming across Rob Metcalfe, who assured us he could provide everything we needed. Unfortunately, our experience proved to be highly disappointing and concerning.
Rob was meant to carry out residential training for the dog. However, it quickly became evident that the dog was not being trained as promised. Despite assurances of progress, there was no tangible evidence of any training taking place. Requests for updates and proof of training were met with vague responses or outright refusal.
During the process of selecting a suitable assistance dog, we were introduced to a dog that Rob claimed had been working as a PTSD support dog for over a year and had turned its previous owner's life around. However, the previous owner had returned the dog, which was odd given Rob’s claims about how life-changing the dog had been. This raised serious doubts about the legitimacy of his statements. Alarmingly, this so-called “highly trained” dog bit my friend, further highlighting the inconsistencies in his claims and the lack of proper behavioural training.
Throughout the process, we repeatedly requested veterinary documentation for the dog we were training with. Despite over two months of persistent requests, Rob refused to provide any such records. This lack of transparency was deeply concerning and made it impossible for us to verify the dog’s health, history, or suitability for assistance work.
Beyond the training concerns, Rob’s professionalism was severely lacking. He was frequently and extensively late for scheduled meetings, demonstrating a disregard for our time and commitments. When we eventually submitted a formal complaint outlining our concerns and requested a written response for record-keeping, he failed to address any of the issues raised.
Another alarming aspect of our experience was Rob’s use of slip collars in training. While technically legal, they cause harm to animals and are not permitted for any assessments that the dog needed to pass, as they are considered an aid. This raised serious ethical and practical concerns regarding his training methods and overall approach.
We feel strongly that our experience should serve as a cautionary tale for others considering Rob Metcalfe’s services. The combination of unfulfilled promises, lack of transparency, questionable practices, and unprofessional behaviour makes us highly recommend seeking alternative, reputable trainers.
Before committing to any training program, we encourage potential clients to thoroughly research their chosen trainer, ask for documentation upfront, and ensure they are dealing with a trustworthy professional. We regret our experience but hope that by sharing our story, we can prevent others from facing similar disappointment and frustration.
